Phylogenetic definitions for 25 higher-level clade names of birds

Knowledge of the higher-level phylogenetic relationships of birds has grown substantially during the past two decades due to the application of genomic ***,the nomenclature of higher-level taxa has not become more stable,due to the lack of regulation of taxon names above the level of superfamily by the ICZN,and the usage of rank-based nomenclature,which is not tied to clades in a *** of regulation and the instability of rank-based nomenclature impede effective communication among *** review support for higher-level avian clades using a set of 10 phylogenomic data sets,and identify clades that are supported by congruency of at least four of *** provide formal definitions of the names of these clades based on the rules of the recently published *** names of 25 clades are here defined using minimum-crown-clade(n=23),minimum-clade(n=1)and maximum-crown-clade(n=1)*** new names are introduced here:Dinocrypturi,Pteroclimesites,Musophagotides,Phaethoquornithes and *** also review diagnostic apomorphies of the relevant clades,and identify known synonyms and *** establishing a formal link between higher-level taxon names and well-supported phylogenetic hypotheses,our phylogenetic definitions will provide a solid basis for the stabilization of avian higher-level nomenclature.

Modelling charge transport and electro-optical characteristics of quantum dot light-emitting diodes

Quantum dot light-emitting diodes(QD-LEDs)are considered as competitive candidate for next-generation displays or *** advances in the synthesis of core/shell quantum dots(QDs)and tailoring procedures for achieving their high quantum yield have facilitated the emergence of high-performance ***,the charge-carrier dynamics in QD-LED devices,which constitutes the remaining core research area for further improvement of QD-LEDs,is,however,poorly understood ***,we propose a charge transport model in which the charge-carrier dynamics in QD-LEDs are comprehensively described by computer *** charge-carrier injection is modelled by the carrier-capturing process,while the effect of electric fields at their interfaces is *** simulated electro-optical characteristics of QD-LEDs,such as the luminance,current density and external quantum efficiency(EQE)curves with varying voltages,show excellent agreement with ***,our computational method proposed here provides a useful means for designing and optimising high-performance QD-LED devices.

Hepatic stellate cells and innate immunity in alcoholic liver disease

Constant alcohol consumption is a major cause of chronic liver disease, and there has been a growing concern regarding the increased mortality rates worldwide. Alcoholic liver diseases (ALDs) range from mild to more severe conditions, such as steatosis, steatohepatitis, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The liver is enriched with innate immune cells (e.g. natural killer cells and Kupffer cells) and hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), and interestingly, emerging evidence suggests that innate immunity contributes to the development of ALDs (e.g. steatohepatitis and liver fibrosis). Indeed, HSCs play a crucial role in alcoholic steatosis via production of endocannabinoid and retinol metabolites. This review describes the roles of the innate immunity and HSCs in the pathogenesis of ALDs, and suggests therapeutic targets and strategies to assist in the reduction of ALD.

Adversarial Attacks on Featureless Deep Learning Malicious URLs Detection

Detecting malicious Uniform Resource Locators(URLs)is crucially important to prevent attackers from committing *** researches have investigated the role of machine learning(ML)models to detect malicious *** using ML algorithms,rst,the features of URLs are extracted,and then different ML models are *** limitation of this approach is that it requires manual feature engineering and it does not consider the sequential patterns in the ***,deep learning(DL)models are used to solve these issues since they are able to perform featureless ***,DL models give better accuracy and generalization to newly designed URLs;however,the results of our study show that these models,such as any other DL models,can be susceptible to adversarial *** this paper,we examine the robustness of these models and demonstrate the importance of considering this susceptibility before applying such detection systems in real-world *** propose and demonstrate a black-box attack based on scoring functions with greedy search for the minimum number of perturbations leading to a *** attack is examined against different types of convolutional neural networks(CNN)-based URL classiers and it causes a tangible decrease in the accuracy with more than 56%reduction in the accuracy of the best classier(among the selected classiers for this work).Moreover,adversarial training shows promising results in reducing the inuence of the attack on the robustness of the model to less than 7%on average.

Periodontitis-induced systemic inflammation exacerbates atherosclerosis partly via endothelial–mesenchymal transition in mice

Growing evidence suggests close associations between periodontitis and *** further understand the pathological relationships of these associations,we developed periodontitis with ligature placement around maxillary molars or ligature placement in conjunction with Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide injection at the ligature sites (ligature/***) in Apolipoprotein E knock out mice and studied the atherogenesis process in these *** mice were fed with high fat diet for 11 weeks and sacrificed for analyzing periodontitis,systemic inflammation,and *** did not develop periodontitis or systemic inflammation and had minimal lipid deposition in the aortas,but mice receiving ligature or ligature/*** showed severe periodontitis,systemic inflammation,and aortic plaque *** aortic plaque contained abundant macrophages and cells expressing both endothelial and mesenchymal cell *** severity of periodontitis was slightly higher in mice receiving ligature/*** than ligature alone,and the magnitude of systemic inflammation and aortic plaque formation were also notably greater in the mice with ligature/*** observations indicate that the development of atherosclerosis is due to systemic inflammation caused by severe *** vitro,*** enhanced the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines from macrophages and increased the adhesion of monocytes to endothelial cells by upregulating the expression of adhesion molecules from endothelial ***,secretory proteins,such as TNF-α,from macrophages induced endothelial–mesenchymal transitions of the endothelial *** together,systemic inflammation induced by severe periodontitis might exacerbate atherosclerosis via,in part,causing aberrant functions of vascular endothelial cells and the activation of macrophages in mice.

The suh Muscle Hook: A New Muscle Hook for Tight Extraocular Muscles during Strabismus Surgery

Purpose: To introduce an advanced muscle hook to decrease risks and create more feasible extraocular muscle surgeries for physicians. Case Report: Tight extraocular muscles during strabismus surgery could be extremely challenging even in experienced hands due to restricted globe rotation, limited view, and lack of muscle elasticity. Although a variety of surgical instruments have been introduced through the years, traditional muscle hooks such as the Jameson hook are largely unchanged and are bulky and cumbersome. Using the traditional muscle hook under situations such as pediatric strabismus surgery with smaller eyes and extraocular muscles may increase the risk of perforating the globe or even rupturing the muscles. We developed the “suh muscle hook”, which has a 0.55 mm wide grooved track in a 1.1 mm wide horizontal bar, a semi-sharp dissecting tip, and a 30-degree bending near the handle accommodating for nasal bridge to better facilitate surgeons dealing with tight extraocular muscles and minimize risks during strabismus surgery.

High-speed and high-resolution imaging of surface profiles is critical for the investigation of various structures and mechanical dynamics of micro-and nano-scale *** particular,recent emergence of various nonlinear,transient and complex mechanical dynamics,such as anharmonic vibrations in mechanical resonators,has necessitated real-time surface deformation imaging with higher axial and lateral resolutions,speed,and dynamic ***,real-time capturing of fast and complex mechanical dynamics has been challenging,and direct time-domain imaging of displacements and mechanical motions has been a missing element in studying full-field structural and dynamic ***,by exploiting the electro-optic sampling with a frequency comb,we demonstrate a line-scan time-of-flight(TOF)camera that can simultaneously measure the TOF changes of more than 1000 spatial coordinates with hundreds megapixels/s pixel-rate and sub-nanometre axial resolution over several millimetres *** unique combination of performances enables fast and precise imaging of both complex structures and dynamics in three-dimensional devices and mechanical resonators.

Green building certification is a useful way to support objective evaluations of the sus-tainability of a *** the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design(LEED)and Energy Star certifications are designed to reduce the negative envi-ronmental impacts of buildings and provide positive economic benefits to certified *** that a demonstrable positive economic impact is also required to satisfy one element of the triple bottom line of sustainability for these certifications,this study examined the economic impact of LEED and/or Energy Star certified office buildings on the market values of adjoining buildings in Manhattan,New York City(NYC),using a spatial analysis based on a Geographic Information System(GIS)and a statistical analysis utilizing *** study’s findings reveal a positive impact for LEED and/or Energy Star certified office buildings on their adjoining buildings,pointing to the need for future research to investigate the spillover effect of LEED and/or Energy Star certified office buildings on other buildings in their neighborhood from a socio-economic standpoint.

Insights from Seoul National University Hospital’s experience: a systematic review of pure laparoscopic donor hepatectomy progression

Following its initial execution in November 2015,pure laparoscopic donor hepatectomy(PLDH)has gained acceptance as a conventional practice at Seoul National University Hospital(SNUH).It is noteworthy that a significant proportion of cases entail full right hepatectomies,which are acknowledged to be technically *** expertise and knowledge have been accrued,the pure laparoscopic technique has been extended to encompass liver recipients as a viable option in *** aim of this review is to present the developmental progression of PLDH,with a focus on pure laparoscopic donor right hepatectomy(PLDRH),at *** includes the standardization process,which can be achieved by sharing the hospital’s accumulated experience and previous *** types of graft,including full right,left,left lateral section,and monosegment,were procured by pure laparoscopic *** criteria for selection were expanded to include donors with variations in the anatomy of the portal vein and bile ***,the procedure of PLDRH was determined to be safe and viable for donors with high body mass index and larger graft *** conclusion,this review demonstrates the alterations implemented throughout our evolution from restricted to inclusive criteria for donor selection,leading to a complete shift from open surgery to pure laparoscopic procedures in donor hepatectomy and eventually pure laparoscopic living donor liver transplantation(LDLT)in recipient.

BACKGROUND Protein C deficiency is typically associated with venous thromboembolism;however,arterial thrombosis has been reported in several *** report the case of a patient with pulmonary thromboembolism and deep vein thrombosis following acute myocardial infarction with high thrombus *** SUMMARY A 40-year-old man was diagnosed with pulmonary thromboembolism and deep vein thrombosis without any provoking *** patient was treated with anticoagulants for six months,which were then *** months after the discontinuation of anticoagulant therapy,the patient was hospitalized with chest pain and diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction with high thrombus *** tests revealed protein C deficiency associated with *** patient was treated with anticoagulants combined with dual antiplatelet agents for 1 year after percutaneous coronary intervention,and no recurrent events were reported during a follow-up period of 5 *** Recurrent thromboembolic events including acute myocardial infarction with thrombus should be considered an alarming sign of thrombophilia.
