A single micro proton exchange membrane fuel cell （PEMFC） has been produced using Micro-electromechanical systems （MEMS） technology with the active area of 2.5 cm 2 and channel depth of about 500 μ m.A theoretical analysis is performed in this study for a novel MEMS-based design of a micro *** model consists of the conservation equations of mass,momentum,species and electric current in a fully integrated finite-volume solver using the CFD-ACE＋ commercial *** polarization curves of simulation are well correlated with experimental ***-dimensional simulations are carried out to treat prediction and analysis of micro PEMFC temperature,current density and water distributions in two different fuel flow rates （15 cm 3 /min and 40 cm 3 /min）.Simulation results show that temperature distribution within the micro PEMFC is affected by water distribution in the membrane and indicate that low and uniform temperature distribution in the membrane at low fuel flow rates leads to increased membrane water distribution and obtains superior micro PEMFC current density distribution under 0.4 V operating *** predictions are well within those known for experimental mechanism phenomena.

Electro-oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural(HMFOR)is a promising green approach to realize the conversion of biomass into value-added ***,considering the complexity of the molecular structure of HMF,an in-depth understanding of the electrocatalytic behavior of HMFOR has rarely been ***,the electrocatalytic mechanism of HMFOR on nickel nitride(Ni3 N)is elucidated by operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS),in situ Raman,quasi in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and operando electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS),*** activity origin is proved to be Ni^(2+δ)N(OH)ads generated by the adsorbed hydroxyl ***,HMFOR on Ni3 N relates to a two-step reaction:Initially,the applied potential drives Ni atoms to lose electrons and adsorb OH-after 1.35 VRHE,giving rise to Ni^(2+δ)N(OH)ads with the electrophilic oxygen;then Ni^(2+δ)N(OH)ads seizes protons and electrons from HMF and leaves as H_(2) O ***,the high electrolyte alkalinity favors the HMFOR process due to the increased active species(Ni^(2+δ)N(OH)ads)and the enhanced adsorption of HMF on the Ni3 N *** work could provide an in-depth understanding of the electrocatalytic mechanism of HMFOR on Ni3 N and demonstrate the alkalinity effect of the electrolyte on the electrocatalytic performance of HMFOR.

A phase-pure NaTi2（PO4）3/reduced graphene oxide （rGO） nanocomposite was prepared using a microwave-assisted one-pot method and subsequent heat treatment. The well-crystallized NaTi2（PO4）3 nanoparticles （30-40 nm） were uniformly precipitated on rGO templates through Ti-O-C bonds. The chemical interactions between the NaTi2（PO4）3 nanoparticles and rGO could immobilize the NaTi2（PO4）3 nanoparticles on the rGO sheets, which might be responsible for the excellent electrochemical performance of the nanocomposite. The NaTi2（PO4）B/rGO nanocomposite exhibited a specific capacity of 128.6 mA-h.g-1 approaching the theoretical value at a 0.1 C-rate with an excellent rate capability （72.9% capacity retention at 50 C-rate） and cycling performance （only 4.5% capacity loss after 1,000 cycles at a high rate of 10 C）. These properties were maintained even when the electrodes were prepared without the use of an additional conducting agent. The excellent sodium storage properties of the NaTi2（PO4）B/rGO nanocomposite could be attributed to the nano-sized NaTi2（PO4）3 particles, which significantly reduced the transport lengths for Na＋ ions, and an intimate contact between the NaTi2（PO4）3 particles and rGO due to chemical bonding.

Objective： Cheongseoikki-tang （CIT, Korean）, also called Qingshu Yiqi decoction（清署益气汤）and Seisho-ekki-to （Japanese）, is well known as an effective traditional combination of herbs for treating cardiovascular diseases. This study was to research its effects on bone marrow-derived mast cell （BMMC）-mediated allergy and inflammation mechanisms. Methods： In this study, the biological effect of Cheongseoikki-tang ethanol extract （CITE） was evaluated, focusing on its effects on the production of allergic mediators by phorbol 12-myfistate 13-acetate （PMA） plus calcium ionophore A23187 （A23187）-stimulated BMMCs. These allergic mediators included intedeukin-6 （IL-6）, prostaglandin D2 （PGD2）, leukotfiene （34 （LTC4）, and β-hexosaminidase （13-hex）. Results： Our data revealed that CITE inhibited the production of IL-6, PGD2,/TC4, and 15-hex induced by PMA plus A23187 （P〈0.05）. Conclusion： These findings indicate that CITE has the potential for use in the treatment of allergy.

Hong Kong has a long historical record of harmful algal blooms(HABs).In the 1980s-1990s,HABs were mainly pollution-related and most of the events happened in estuaries and enclosed embayment such as Tolo Harbour and Port *** major cause of HABs in 1980s-1990s was closely related to nutrients enrichment;included but not limited to changes in the concentration and ratio of soluble N and P in *** major causative organisms of HABs in Hong Kong by then were meso-plankton such as selected species of diatoms and dinofl ***,zooplankton was also a cause of red tides(the common name of HABs).There has been gradual change after the *** is attributed to higher and higher influences from the region,namely the Zhujiang(Pearl)River *** are increasing influences from Chinese mainland due to extraordinary social and economic growths during the past 20 *** the past10 years,HABs in Hong Kong was mainly subject to regional impacts in the Zhujiang River *** the duration period and covered areas have been enlarged which overwhelmed the localized influences of stream pollution and self-contamination of aquaculture *** flagellates of uncommon happening become dominant species in HAB ***,the seasonal impact of Noctiluca scintillans in late winter to mid spring remained.

AIM: To elucidate the relations between the myeloperoxidase ^(-468)G→a polymorphism and the development of duodenal ulcer (DU), and to investigate the impacts of this host genetic polymorphism on the histopathological features of Helicobacter pylori (H py/ori)-related gastritis. METHODS: In a case-control study of 115 consecutive DU patients and 182 controls, the myeloperoxidase ^(-468)G→A polymorphism was genotyped. Additionally, gastric mucosal changes were examined according to the updated Sydney System. RESULTS: The two study groups differed in the distributions of myeloperoxidase genotypes (P=0.008). All six individuals carrying myeloperoxidase A/A genotypes were in the DU group. The carriage of myeloperoxidase allele A and H pylori infection were associated with an increased risk of DU with odds ratios (OR) of 2.3 and 5.8, respectively. The combined risk of the carriage of myeloperoxidase allele A and H pylori infection for DU was 8.7 (95% CI, 3.5-21.8). In the H pylori-infected individuals, allele A carriers displayed higher bacterial density scores (P=0.04) in the antrum than did non-carriers. CONCLUSION: This work verifies for the first time the association of myeloperoxidase ^(-468)G→A polymorphism with antral H pylori density and DU disease. The mechanisms underlying this genetic polymorphism in developing DU disease merit further investigations.

Six new aliphatic alcohol and ester compounds of n-octacos-9-enyl propionate （1）, 4-（3-formylheptyl）cyclohexyl 4-（cyclohexylcarbonyloxymethyl）cyclohexyl-carboxylate （2）, n-hentriacont-25-en-5α-ol （3）, n-hexetriacont-9,26-dien-8α,11β,23α-triol （4）, n-tetracontan-15α-ol （5） and n-tritetracontan-5α-ol （6） were isolated from the hulls of Oryza sativa. The structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic analysis.

In Situ Exfoliation and Pt Deposition of Antimonene for Formic Acid Oxidation via a Predominant Dehydrogenation Pathway

Direct formic acid fuel cell(DFAFC)has been considered as a promising energy conversion device for stationary and mobile *** platinum(Pt)electrocatalysts for formic acid oxidation reaction(FAOR)are critical for ***,the oxidation of formic acid on Pt catalysts often occurs via a dual pathway mechanism,which hinders the catalytic activity owing to the CO ***,we directly exfoliate bulk antimony to 2D antimonene(Sb)and in situ load Pt nanoparticles onto antimonene sheets with the assistance of *** to the Bader charge analysis,the charge transfer from antimonene to Pt occurs,confirming the electronic interaction between Pt and ***,antimonene,as a cocatalyst,alters the oxidation pathway for FAOR over Pt catalyst and makes FAOR follow the more efficient dehydrogenation *** density functional theory(DFT)calculation demonstrates that antimonene can activate Pt to be a lower oxidative state and facilitate the oxidation of HCOOH into CO_(2) via a direct pathway,resulting in a weakened intermediate binding strength and better CO tolerance for *** specific activity of FAOR on Pt/Sb is 4.5 times,and the mass activity is 2.6 times higher than the conventional Pt/C.

Scrub typhus is an acute febrile disease caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi （0. tsutsugamushi）. We report herein the case of a woman who presented with fever and elevated serum levels of liver enzymes and who was definitively diagnosed with scrub typhus by his- topathological examination of liver biopsy specimens, serological tests and nested polymerase chain reaction. Immunohistochemical staining using a monoclonal an- ti-O. tsutsugamushi antibody showed focally scattered positive immunoreactions in the cytoplasm of some hepatocytes. This case suggests that scrub typhus hepatitis causes mild focal inflammation due to direct liver damage without causing piecemeal necrosis or interface hepatitis. Thus, scrub typhus hepatitis differs from acute viral hepatitis secondary to liver damage due to host immune responses, which causes severe Iobular disarray with diffuse hepatocytic degeneration, necrosis and apoptosis as well as findings indicative of hepatic cholestasis, such as hepatic bile plugs or brown pigmentation of hepatocytes.
