Characteristics of combustion zone and evolution of mineral phases along bed height in ore sintering

Quantitative parameters of bed combustion, including the thickness of the combustion zone(TCZ), the maximum temperature of the combustion zone(MTCZ), and the bed shrinkage, were characterized through a series of sinter pot tests in transparent quartz pots. The results showed that TCZ first ascended and then descended as the sintering process proceeded. The sintering process was divided into four stages according to the variation rate of the TCZ. A "relative-coordinate" method was developed to obtain the actual reaction temperature of sinter along the height direction. With increasing the sintering temperature, the reactants transformed and entered into liquid phases. The mineral composition and microstructure of the sinter were characterized through X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Liquid phases with greater Fe and Al contents were more likely to form acicular-like silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum after crystallization because of the outward spread of Al, which led to a better fluidity of the liquid. An evolution mechanism of "solid-state reaction—liquid phases formation—crystallization" of the mineral phases is proposed.

The basic characteristics of Australian iron ore concentrate (Ore-A) and its effects on sinter properties during a high-limonite sintering process were studied using micro-sinter and sinter pot methods. The results show that the Ore-A exhibits good granulation properties, strong liquid flow capability, high bonding phase strength and crystal strength, but poor assimilability. With increasing Ore-A ratio, the tumbler index and the reduction index (RI) of the sinter first increase and then decrease, whereas the softening interval (Delta T) and the softening start temperature (T (10%)) of the sinter exhibit the opposite behavior; the reduction degradation index (RDI+3.15) of the sinter increases linearly, but the sinter yield exhibits no obvious effects. With increasing Ore-A ratio, the distribution and crystallization of the minerals are improved, the main bonding phase first changes from silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum (SFCA) to kirschsteinite, silicate, and SFCA and then transforms to 2CaO center dot SiO2 and SFCA. Given the utilization of Ore-A and the improvement of the sinter properties, the Ore-A ratio in the high-limonite sintering process is suggested to be controlled at approximately 6wt%.

Sinter strength is dependent not only on the self-intensity of the residual rude and bonding phase but also on the bonding degree between them. The infiltration behavior of sintering liquid on nuclei ores influences the bonding degree, which ultimately determines the sinter strength. Infiltration tests were conducted using micro-sinter equipment. The infiltration area index of original liquid（IAO）, infiltration volume index of secondary liquid（IVS）, and sinter body bonding strength（SBS） were proposed to study the melt infiltration behavior. The results show that the IVS first increases and then decreases with increasing TiO2 content in adhering fines, whereas the IAO exhibits the opposite behavior. Compared with the original liquid, the secondary liquid shows lower porosity, smaller pores, and more uniform distribution. The SBS increases first and then decreases with increasing IAO and TiO2 content, and reaches a maximum when the IAO and TiO2 contents are approximately 0.5 and 2.0wt%, respectively. The SBS first increases and then tends to be stable with increasing IVS. The TiO2 content is suggested to be controlled to approximately 2.0wt% in low-titanium ore sintering.

Background In type 2 diabetes mellitus （T2DM）, high-density lipoprotein （HDL） impairs its anti-atherogenic properties and even develops to a pro-inflammatory and pro-atherogenic phenotype because of abnormal compositions and modifications. In this study, we ex- amined the effects and the related mechanisms of glycation of HDL on the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells （VSMCs）. Methods ＆ Results Glycated HDL （G-HDL） was modified with D-glucose （25 mmol/L） in vitro. Diabetic HDL （D-HDL） was isolated from T2DM patients. Rat VSMCs were isolated from the thoracic aortas. Human VSMCs were obtained from ScienCell Research Laboratories. Alpha-actin was detected through immunofiuorescence. VSMC proliferation was assayed by Cell Count. VSMC migration was determined by transwell chamber and scratch-wound assay. Intracellular reactive oxygen species （ROS） was detected based on ROS-medi- ated 2＇,7＇-dichlorofluorescein （DCFH-DA） fluorescence. Compared to native HDL （N-HDL）, G-HDL remarkably promoted VSMC prolif- eration and migration in the dose and time-dependent manners. In addition, G-HDL enhanced ROS generation in VSMCs. However, the ROS scavenger, N-acetylcysteine, efficiently decreased ROS production and subsequently inhibited the proliferation of VSMCs induced by G-HDL. Similarly, D-HDL from T2DM patients also promoted ROS release and VSMC proliferation and migration. Conclusions HDL either glycated in vitro or isolated from T2DM patients triggered VSMC proliferation, migration, and oxidative stress. These results might partly interpret the higher morbidity of cardiovascular disease in T2DM patients.

Comprehensive evaluation of sintering basic characteristics of iron ore based on grey relational analysis

Sintering basic characteristics of fourteen iron ores were comprehensively evaluated using micro-sinter and grey relational analysis methods. The results show that magnetite has a low assimilability, high bonding phase strength, and high crystal strength. Hematite presents a good assimilability, while limonite exhibits a strong assimilability, but the bonding phase strength and crystal strength of these two kinds of iron ores are comparatively low. Great difference in liquid flowability exists for the same kind of iron ores. When the assimilation temperature of the sinter mixture is too high, limonite can be added;when the bonding phase strength or crystal strength of the sinter mixture is too low, magnetite can be added. The liquid fluidity of the sinter mixture can be adjusted according to the ratios of corresponding iron ores. Grey relational analysis is an effective method to evaluate the comprehensive sintering characteristics of iron ores, which can provide theoretical basis for the purchasing department of the steel enterprises.

Catharanthus roseus L. （Madagascar periwinkle） biosynthesizes a diverse array of secondary metabolites including anticancer dimeric alkaloids （vinblastine and vincristine） and antihypertensive alkaloids （ajmalicine and serpentine）. The multi-step terpenoid indole alkaloids （TIAs） biosynthetic pathway in C. roseus is complex and is under strict molecular regulation. Many enzymes and genes involved in the TIAs biosynthesis have been studied in recent decades. Moreover, some regulatory proteins were found recently to control the production of TIAs in C. roseus. Based on mastering the rough scheme of the pathway and cloning the related genes, metabolic engineering of TIAs biosynthesis has been studied in C. roseus aiming at increasing the desired secondary metabolites in the past few years. The present article summarizes recent advances in isolation and characterization of TIAs biosynthesis genes and transcriptional regulators involved in the second metabolic control in C. roseus. Metabolic engineering applications in TIAs pathway via overexpression of these genes and regulators in C. roseus are also discussed.

Strength and ductility optimization of HPDC AlSi8MgCuZn2 alloys by modifying pre-aging treatment

Considering the components produced by high pressure die casting(HPDC)process usually with ultra-large sizes and complex morphologies,high temperature solid solution treatment is not a suitable method to further improve their mechanical *** this study,two-stage aging treatment with different pre-aging times was designed and employed to further improve the mechanical properties of HPDC Al8SiMgCuZn *** characteristics of precipitates were evaluated by a transmission electron microscope(TEM),and the precipitation strengthening mechanism was *** results reveal that the strengthening is mainly contributed by the precipitation ofβ″phase after two-stage aging,and the number density and size of the precipitates are significantly depended on the pre-aging *** number density of precipitates is increased with the pre-aging time prolonged from 0 h to 4 h,and then decreases with the further increase of pre-aging time from 4 h to 6 *** precipitates with the highest density and smallest size are observed after pre-aging for 4 *** pre-aged at 100℃for 4 h and then artificial aged at 200℃for 30 min,the yield strength of 207 MPa,ultimate tensile strength of 325 MPa and elongation of 7.6%are achieved.

GLTSCR1, ATM, PPPIR13L and CD3EAP Genetic Variants and Lung Cancer Risk in a Chinese Population

Genetic variants in glioma tumor suppressor candidate region gene 1 （GLTSCR1） and ATM serine/threonine kinase （ATM） have been associated with various cancer risks. Epidemiological studies also revealed the association of variants of GLTSCR1 and ATM genes with different brain tumors. However, little is known about the relationship between both gene polymorphisms and lung cancer risk. We conducted a Chinese hospital-based casecontrol study involving 384 lung cancer cases and 387 cancer-free controls. No significant differences in the single polymorphism （GLTSCR1 rs1035938 and ATM rs11212592） association were found in five genetic models （co-dominant, dominant, recessive, overdominant and log-additive models）（adjusted by smoking duration）. Join effect of three SNPs （PPPIR13L rs1970764, CD3EAP rs967591, GLTSCR1 rs1035938） on chromosome 19q 13.3 showed that the designated haplotype2 （rs 1970764 G-rs967591 A-rs 1035938 C） [OR （95% CI）=1.60 （1.11-2.32）, P=0.012] and haplotype8 （rs 1970764 G-rs967591 G-rs 1035938 T） [OR （95% CI）=2.45 （1.17-5.12）, P=0.018] were associated with increased risk of lung cancer （adjusted by smoking duration）. The analysis ofmultifactor dimensionality reduction revealed that two 3-way models were the best fit models in analyses of 2 loci （P〈0.001） or 4 loci （P=0.015-0.016）. The entropy-based analysis indicated the strongest synergistic effect between PPPIR13L rs1970764 and ATM rs11212592 in analysis of four genes. In conclusion, our study suggests that haplotypes consisting of PPPIR13L rs1970764- CD3EAP rs967591-GLTSCR1 rs1035938 on Chr19q13.3, interaction of smoking and GLTSCR1 rs1035938-ATM rs11212592, and synergistic action of PPPIR13L rs1970764 and ATM rs 11212592 may associate with lung cancer risk in the Chinese population.

Block copolymers(BCPs) with high Flory-Huggins parameter(χ) and balanced surface energy have aroused tremendous interest for ultra-small nanopatterns ***,high χ and balanced surface energy are generally *** fine tune of chain structure might be a useful way to achieve high χ and balanced surface *** realize this,the block copolymer with exactly uniform chain structure,i.e.,defined molecular structure,is highly desirable for accurately evaluating the phase ***,two kinds of discrete oligo ester-b-oligo olefin block copolymers with different chemical structures(oligo lactic acid-boligo olefin BCP,oLA_(n)-b-C_(m);oligo phenyl lactic acid-b-oligo olefin BCP,oPL_(n)-b-C_(m)) were modularly synthesized through iterative growth *** effect of chain structure on segregation strength and surface properties was quantitatively investigated using the discrete BCPs as precise *** the one hand,introducing rigid and nonpolar phenyl groups into oligo ester block has a negligible effect on the chemical incompatibility,as confirmed by the identical high χ values of oLA_(n)-b-C_(m) and oPL_(n)-b-C_(m)(χ_(oLA/C)=0.21 and χ_(oPL/C)=0.19).On the other hand,the incorporation of nonpolar phenyl groups creates balanced surface energy,that is,the high χ and balanced surface energy were simultaneously achieved by oPL_(n)-b-C_(m).Therefore,sub-10 nm perpendicular nanopatterns can be easily produced upon brief thermal treatment,demonstrating its potential application in semiconductor manufacturing with ultra-small feature *** discrete BCP can serve as a quantitative and exquisite model to study the critical contribution of chain structures on phase separation behavior,providing insightful understanding to facilitate the potential application in the chip process.
