Nitrogen can easily contaminate molten steel during the steelmaking process and due to the low nitrogen capacity in slag, it is difficult to remove entrapped nitrogen from liquid steel. Degassing is often done to the steel at secondary steelmaking to lower the nitrogen content, but the control can often be kinetically limited by the steel grade and also the slag composition. Thus, a fundamental understanding of nitrogen dissolution into molten slag and metal including the rate of nitrogen dissolution can help in controlling nitrogen content in the final *** kinetics of nitrogen dissolution in the molten calcium aluminate based slags and in molten steel with various element additions was investigated by measuring the 14N-15N isotope exchange reaction using a mass spectrometer at 1873 *** show that effect of elements on the rate constant of nitrogen dissolution such as Ni in Fe is relatively minimal similar to molybdenum. The surface rate constant of nitrogen dissolution in liquid Fe-10%Ni alloy was found to be 3.77×10-5 (mol/cm2·s·atm).The rate constant of nitrogen dissolution in the CaO-Al2O3-CaF2 slag was found to be wedge shaped, which decreased with increasing CaF2 to about 20 mol% followed by an increase through the rest of the CaF2 composition range. This was related to the effect of CaF2 on the structure of Al-O bonds for this slag.

Real-time in-situ monitoring of chiral changes during a reaction at single-molecule level

Korean steel community is faced with significant pressure for higher productivity and efficiency, cost structures of steelmaking industry should be changed to overcome limitations with raw materials, over-supply of steel, energy price fluctuations, and environmental regulations burden. Some of these technology innovations proceed to the direction of process development for lighter and tougher steels containing high Mn contents that are not only stronger, but also more formable. More stringent environmental regulations through carbon taxes that seem to have been expanding throughout the global community is forcing ironmakers to increase alternative iron units and scrap to substitute hot metal in the BOF and to implement carbon saving technologies such as direct CO injection for decarburization and improved catch-carbon processing. Refining Technology during secondary steelmaking has been greatly enhanced with optimal slag chemistry control resulting in improved steel cleanliness and steel homogeneity. To provide the consumer with cleaner steels low in inclusions there has also been recent developments in secondary refining *** recent advancements in iron and steelmaking technologies of Korea areintroduced and the results highlighted to illustrate the role of technology in todays’ competitive steel market place.

Airport tower control plays an instrumental role in ensuring airport ***,obtaining objective,quantitative safety evaluations is challenging due to the unavailability of pertinent human operation *** study introduces a probabilistic model that combines aircraft dynamics and the peak-over-threshold(POT)approach to assess the safety performance of airport *** applied the POT approach to model reaction times extracted from a radiotelephony dataset via a voice event detection *** model couples the risks of tower control and aircraft operation to analyze the influence of human *** data from radiotele-phony communications and the Base of Aircraft Data(BADA)database,we compared risk levels across *** findings revealed heightened airport control risks under low demand(0.374)compared to typical conditions(0.197).Furthermore,the risks associated with coupling under low demand exceeded those under typical de-mand,with the final approach stage presenting the highest risk(4.929×107).Our model underscores the significance of human factors and the implications of mental disconnects between pilots and controllers for safety ***,these consistent findings affirm the reliability of our probabilistic model as an evaluative tool for evaluating the safety performance of airport tower *** results also illuminate the path toward quantitative real-time safety evaluations for airport controllers within the *** recommend that airport regulators focus on the performance of airport controllers,particularly during the final approach stage.
