The development of flexible and wearable devices is mainly required for tactile sensing;as such devices can adapt to complicated nonuniform surfaces,they can be applied to the human ***,it remains necessary to simultaneously achieve small-scale,portable,and stable developments in such ***,this work aims at fabricating a novel,lightweight,ultra-flexible,and fiber-shaped coaxial structure with a diameter of 0.51 mm using polydimethylsiloxane/graphene/nylon material,based on piezoresistive and triboelectric *** piezoresistive-based robotic-hand-controlled sensor thus realized exhibits a response time of 120 ms and a fast recovery time of 55 ***,the piezoresistive-based sensors effectively feature whisker/joystick-guided behaviors and also sense the human finger *** to the triboelectric-based selfpowered nanogenerator behavior,the resulting sensor can convert mechanical motion into electrical energy,without adversely affecting human ***,this triboelectric-based human finger sensor can be operated under different bending modes at specific ***,this multifunctional sensor is cost-effective and suitable for various applications,including robotichand-controlled operations in medical surgery,whisker/joystick motions in lightweight drone technology,and navigation with highsensitivity components.

New prognostic model for patients with advanced gastric cancer:Fluoropyrimidine/platinum doublet for first-line chemotherapy

BACKGROUND New prognostic factors have been reported in patients with metastatic or recurrent gastric cancer(MRGC),necessitating modifications to the previous prognostic *** To develop a new model,MRGC patients who received fluoropyrimidines/platinum doublet chemotherapy between 2008 and 2015 were *** A total of 1883 patients was divided into a training set(n=937)and an independent validation set(n=946).RESULTS Multivariate analysis showed that the following six factors were associated with poor overall survival(OS)in the training set:Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance score≥2 and bone metastasis(2 points each),peritoneal metastasis,high alkaline phosphatase level,low albumin level,and high neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(1 point each).A prognostic model was developed by stratifying patients into good(0-1 point),moderate(2-3 points),and poor(≥4 points)risk *** the validation set,the median OS of the three risk groups was 15.8,10.1,and 5.7 mo,respectively,and those differences were significant(P<0.001).CONCLUSION We identified six factors readily measured in clinical practice that are predictive of poor prognosis in patients with *** new model is simpler than the old and more easily predicts OS.

Molecular Mechanism of the Specificity of Protein Import into Chloroplasts and Mitochondria in Plant Cells

Plants possess both types of endosymbiotic organelles, chloroplasts and mitochondria. Transit peptides and presequences function as signal sequences for specific import into chloroplasts and mitochondria, respectively. However, how these highly similar signal sequences confer the protein import specificity remains elusive. Here, we show that mitochondrial- or chloroplast-specific import involves two distinct steps, specificity determination and translocation across envelopes, which are mediated by the N-terminal regions and functionally interchangeable C-terminal regions, respectively, of transit peptides and presequences. A domain harboring multiple-arginine and hydrophobic sequence motifs in the N-terminal regions of presequences was identified as the mitochondrial specificity factor. The presence of this domain and the absence of arginine residues in the N-terminal regions of otherwise common targeting signals confers specificity of protein import into mitochondria and chloroplasts, respectively. AtToc159, a chloroplast import receptor, also contributes to determining chloroplast import specificity. We propose that common ancestral sequences were functionalized into mitochondrial- and chloroplast-specific signal sequences by the presence and absence, respectively, of multiple-arginine and hydrophobic sequence motifs in the N-terminal region.

Mechanical strength and corrosion resistance of Al-additive friction stir welded AZ31B joints

Compared to other structural alloys,magnesium alloys have a relatively poor corrosion resistance and low mechanical strength,which can be further deteriorated when these alloys are subjected to joining processes using the existing joining ***,we propose for the first time an additive friction stir-welding(AFSW)using fine Al powder as an additive to improve the mechanical strength as well as corrosion resistance of AZ31B weld *** is a solid-state welding method of forming a high-Al AZ31B joint via an in-situ reaction between pure Al powders filled in a machined groove and the AZ31B *** optimize the process parameters,AFSW was performed under different rotational and transverse speeds,and number of passes,using tools with a square or screw *** particular,to fabricate a weld zone,where the Al was homogenously dispersed,the effects of the groove shape were investigated using three types of grooves:surface one-line groove,surface-symmetric grooves,and inserted symmetric *** homogenous and defect-less AFS-welded AZ31B joint was successfully fabricated with the following optimal parameters:1400 rpm,25 mm/min,four passes,inserted symmetric grooves,and the tool with a square *** AFSW fully dissolved the additive Al intoα-Mg and in-situ precipitated Mg_(17)Al_(12)particles,which was confirmed via scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscope,and X-ray diffraction *** microhardness,joint efficiency,and elongation at the fracture point of the AFS-welded AZ31B joint were 80 HV,101%,and 8.9%,*** values are higher than those obtained for the FS-welded AZ31 joint in previous *** corrosion resistance of the AFS-welded AZ31B joint,evaluated via hydrogen evolution measurements and potentiodynamic polarization tests,was enhanced to 55%relative to the FS-welded AZ31B joint.

Deep learning for development of organic optoelectronic devices:efficient prescreening of hosts and emitters in deep-blue fluorescent OLEDs

The highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO)and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO)energies,which are key factors in optoelectronic devices,must be accurately estimated for newly designed ***,we developed a deep learning(DL)model that was trained with an experimental database containing the HOMO and LUMO energies of 3026 organic molecules in solvents or solids and was capable of predicting the HOMO and LUMO energies of molecules with the mean absolute errors of 0.058 ***,we demonstrated that our DL model was efficiently used to virtually screen optimal host and emitter molecules for organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs).Deep-blue fluorescent OLEDs,which were fabricated with emitter and host molecules selected via DL prediction,exhibited narrow emission(bandwidth=36 nm)at 412 nm and an external quantum efficiency of 6.58%.Our DL-assisted virtual screening method can be further applied to the development of component materials in optoelectronics.

mitochondrial-targeting moieties to anticancer drugs, antioxidants and sensor molecules. Among them, the most widely applied mitochondrial targeting moiety is triphenylphosphonium(TPP), which is a delocalized cationic lipid that readily accumulates and penetrates through the mitochondrial membrane due to the highly negative mitochondrial membrane potential. Other moieties, including short peptides,dequalinium, guanidine, rhodamine, and F16, are also known to be promising mitochondrial targeting agents. Direct conjugation of mitochondrial targeting moieties to anticancer drugs, antioxidants and sensors results in increased cytotoxicity, anti-oxidizing activity and sensing activity, respectively,compared with their non-targeting counterparts, especially in drug-resistant cells. Although many mitochondria-targeted anticancer drug conjugates have been investigated in vitro and in vivo, further clinical studies are still needed. On the other hand, several mitochondria-targeting antioxidants have been analyzed in clinical phases I, II and III trials, and one conjugate has been approved for treating eye disease in Russia. There are numerous ongoing studies of mitochondria-targeted sensors.

AIM. To evaluate health-related quality of life （HRQOL） in Chinese patients with chronic hepatitis C （CH-C）, and the impact of antiviral treatment. METHODS： Short Form 36 （SF-36） Health-related Quality of Life Questionnaires to interview CH-C patients, and age- and sex-matched control subjects at outpatient clinics of a medical center in Taiwan were used. Data were transformed to scores for comparisons of eight major SF-36 domains. We also enrolled consecutive CH-C patients who completed one course of antiviral treatment （interferon α with ribavirin）, and measured the HRQOL before, at the 12m wk of treatment, at the end of treatment, and at mo 6, after stopping the treatment to evaluate the impact of antiviral treatment. RESULTS： A total of 371 outpatients were enrolled, including 182 with CH-C and 189 age- and sex-matched subjects without CH-C. CH-C subjects had obviously lower educational status （P〈0.01）. Mean scores of domains in general health, physical functioning, role-physical, role-emotional, vitality, and mental health of the SF-36 were significantly lower in subjects with CH-C than those without CH-C （P〈0.05）. In an analysis of 47 CH-C patients who received and completed the whole course of antiviral treatment, mean scores of all domains were significantly lower at wk 12 of treatment compared to baseline. The scores returned to pretreatment values by the end of treatment, but were significantly increased at mo 6 after stopping the treatment. Among the 47 CH-C patients, 21 had sustained responses and 26 had nonsustained responses to antiviral treatment. Compared to pretreatment values, subjects with sustained responses had significantly lower social functioning scores at wk 12 of treatment, and scores for all SF-36 domains returned to pretreatment values, and increased significantly at mo 6 after stopping the treatment. For non-sustained virological responders, scores of all SF-36 domains significantly decreased at wk 12 of treatment, and did not increa

Creating unconventional geometric phase gate using squeeze-like operator assisted by strong driving field

Based on the idea that a squeezing process can be thought of as a total cumulative effect of a large number of tiny squeezing processes, we define a squeeze-like operator with a time-dependent squeeze parameter. Applying this operator to and combining with a system which includes a two-photon interaction between two atoms and an initial vacuum cavity field, and resorting to a resonant strong driving classical field, we obtain an unconventional geometric phase gate with a shorter gating time.
