Polysaccharides from Chinese herbal medicine:a review on the hepatoprotective and molecular mechanism

Polysaccharides,predominantly extracted from traditional Chinese medicinal herbs such as Lycium barbarum,Angelica sinensis,Astragalus membranaceus,Dendrobium officinale,Ganoderma lucidum,and Poria cocos,represent principal bioactive constituents extensively utilized in Chinese medicine.These compounds have demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory capabilities,especially anti-liver injury activities,while exhibiting minimal adverse effects.This review summarized recent studies to elucidate the hepatoprotective efficacy and underlying molecular mechanisms of these herbal polysaccharides.It underscored the role of these polysaccharides in regulating hepatic function,enhancing immunological responses,and improving antioxidant capacities,thus contributing to the attenuation of hepatocyte apoptosis and liver protection.Analyses of molecular pathways in these studies revealed the intricate and indispensable functions of traditional Chinese herbal polysaccharides in liver injury management.Therefore,this review provides a thorough examination of the hepatoprotective attributes and molecular mechanisms of these medicinal polysaccharides,thereby offering valuable insights for the advancement of polysaccharide-based therapeutic research and their potential clinical applications in liver disease treatment.

The accumulation of coal gangue(CG)from coal mining is an important source of heavy metals(HMs)in soil.Its spatial distribution and environment risk assessment are extremely important for the management and remediation of HMs.Eighty soil samples were collected from the high-sulfur CG site in northern China and analyzed for six HMs.The results showed that the soil was heavily contaminated by Mn,Cr and Ni based on the Nemerow index,and posed seriously ecological risk depended on the geo-accumulation index,potential ecological risk index and risk assessment code.The semi-variogram model and ordinary kriging interpolation accurately portrayed the spatial distribution of HMs.Fe,Mn,and Cr were distributed by band diffusion,Ni was distributed by core,the distribution of Cu had obvious patchiness and Zn was more uniform.The spatial autocorrelation indicated that all HMs had strong spatial heterogeneity.The BCR sequential extraction was employed to qualify the geochemical fractions of HMs.The data indicated that Fe and Cr were dominated by residual fraction;Cu,Ni and Zn were dominated by reducible and oxidizable fractions;Mn was dominated by reducible and acid-extractable(25.38%-44.67%)fractions.Pearson correlation analysis showed that pH was the main control factor affecting the non-residue fractions of HMs.Therefore,acid production from high sulfur CG reduced soil pH by 2-3,which indirectly promoted the activity of HMs.Finally,the conceptual model of HMs contamination at the CG site was proposed,which can be useful for the development of ecological remediation strategies.

A new necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of minor left prime factorizations of multivariate polynomial matrices without full row rank is presented.The key idea is to establish a relationship between a matrix and any of its full row rank submatrices.Based on the new result,the authors propose an algorithm for factorizing matrices and have implemented it on the computer algebra system Maple.Two examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the algorithm,and experimental data shows that the algorithm is efficient.

Airport tower control plays an instrumental role in ensuring airport safety.However,obtaining objective,quantitative safety evaluations is challenging due to the unavailability of pertinent human operation data.This study introduces a probabilistic model that combines aircraft dynamics and the peak-over-threshold(POT)approach to assess the safety performance of airport controllers.We applied the POT approach to model reaction times extracted from a radiotelephony dataset via a voice event detection algorithm.The model couples the risks of tower control and aircraft operation to analyze the influence of human factors.Using data from radiotele-phony communications and the Base of Aircraft Data(BADA)database,we compared risk levels across scenarios.Our findings revealed heightened airport control risks under low demand(0.374)compared to typical conditions(0.197).Furthermore,the risks associated with coupling under low demand exceeded those under typical de-mand,with the final approach stage presenting the highest risk(4.929×107).Our model underscores the significance of human factors and the implications of mental disconnects between pilots and controllers for safety risks.Collectively,these consistent findings affirm the reliability of our probabilistic model as an evaluative tool for evaluating the safety performance of airport tower controllers.The results also illuminate the path toward quantitative real-time safety evaluations for airport controllers within the industry.We recommend that airport regulators focus on the performance of airport controllers,particularly during the final approach stage.

Visual object tracking has been drawing increasing attention in recent years,as a fundamental task in computer vision.To extend the range of tracking applications,researchers have been introducing information from multiple modalities to handle specific scenes,with promising research prospects for emerging methods and benchmarks.To provide a thorough review of multi-modal tracking,different aspects of multi-modal tracking algorithms are summarized under a unified taxonomy,with specific focus on visibledepth(RGB-D)and visible-thermal(RGB-T)tracking.Subsequently,a detailed description of the related benchmarks and challenges is provided.Extensive experiments were conducted to analyze the effectiveness of trackers on five datasets:PTB,VOT19-RGBD,GTOT,RGBT234,and VOT19-RGBT.Finally,various future directions,including model design and dataset construction,are discussed from different perspectives for further research.

Hyperlipidemia is a risk factor for clinically significant thrombotic events in cardiovascular diseases. Platelet reactivity in hyperlipidemic conditions is enhanced when platelet scavenger receptor CD36 recognizes oxidized lipids in oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) particles， a process that induces atherothrombosis. Sulforaphane (SFN) is a dietary isothiocyanate enriched in cruciferous vegetables and exerts multiple biological activities. The current study sought to investigate the efficacy of SFN on platelet hyperreactivity under hyperlipidemic conditions in vitro and in vivo. Using a series of platelet functional assays in human platelets in vitro， we demonstrated that SFN attenuated ox-LDL-increased platelet aggregation and activation (surface CD62P expression). Mechanistically， studies using pharmacological inhibitors clarified that these inhibitory effects of SFN were mainly modulated by down-regulating CD36-mediated activation of Src kinases， leading to enhanced activation of cAMP/PKA signaling， and resultant inhibition of NAD phosphate oxidase 2 (NOX2)-dependent generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Moreover， 12-week supplementation of SFN-enriched broccoli sprout extract (BSE， 0.06% diet) in hyperlipidemic C57BL/6J mice also decreased platelet hyperreactivity. Studies using pharmacological inhibitors of CD36， PKA and NOX2 showed that the efficacy of BSE supplementation was mainly through modulating CD36-mediated the cAMP/PKA/NOX2 signaling. Thus， through modulating the cAMP/PKA/NOX2 pathway and attenuating CD36-mediated platelet hyperreactivity， SFN may play important protective roles in atherothrombosis under hyperlipidemic conditions.

Let a and b be positive integers such that a≤b and a≡b(mod 2).We say that G has all(a,b)-parity factors if G has an h-factor for every function h:V(G)→{a,a+2,…,b-2,b} with b|V(G)| even and h(v)≡b(mod 2) for all v∈V(G).In this paper,we prove that every graph G with n≥2(b+1)(a+b) vertices has all(a,b)-parity factors if δ(G)≥(b^(2)-b)/a,and for any two nonadjacent vertices u,v ∈V(G),max{d_(G)(u),d_(G)(v)}≥bn/a+b.Moreover,we show that this result is best possible in some sense.

This paper focuses on the quadratic nonfragile filtering problem for linear non-Gaussian systems under multiplicative noises,multiple missing measurements as well as the dynamic event-triggered transmission scheme.The multiple missing measurements are characterized through random variables that obey some given probability distributions,and thresholds of the dynamic event-triggered scheme can be adjusted dynamically via an auxiliary variable.Our attention is concentrated on designing a dynamic event-triggered quadratic nonfragile filter in the well-known minimum-variance sense.To this end,the original system is first augmented by stacking its state/measurement vectors together with second-order Kronecker powers,thus the original design issue is reformulated as that of the augmented system.Subsequently,we analyze statistical properties of augmented noises as well as high-order moments of certain random parameters.With the aid of two well-defined matrix difference equations,we not only obtain upper bounds on filtering error covariances,but also minimize those bounds via carefully designing gain parameters.Finally,an example is presented to explain the effectiveness of this newly established quadratic filtering algorithm.

The critical rainfall of runoff-initiated debris flows is utmost importance for local early hazard forecasting.This paper presents research on the critical rainfall of runoff-initiated debris flows through comparisons between slope gradients and three key factors,including topographic contributing area,dimensionless discharge,and Shields stress.The rainfall amount was estimated by utilizing in-situ rainfall records and a slope-dependent Shields stress model was created.The created model can predict critical Shields stress more accurately than the other two models.Furthermore,a new dimensionless discharge equation was proposed based on the corresponding discharge-gradient datasets.The new equation,along with factors such as contributing area above bed failure sites,channel width,and mean diameter of debris flow deposits,predicts a smaller rainfall amount than the in-situ measured records.Although the slope-dependent Shields stress model performs well and the estimated rainfall amount is lower than the in-situ records,the sediment initiation in the experiments falls within sheet flow regime due to a large Shields stress.Therefore,further sediment initiation experiments at a steeper slope range are expected in the future to ensure that the sediment transport belongs to mass failure regime characterized by a low level of Shields stress.Finally,a more accurate hazard forecast on the runoff-initiated debris flow holds promise when the corresponding critical slope-dependent dimensionless discharge of no motion,fluvial sediment transport,mass flow regime,and sheet flow regime are considered.
