The New caledonia ophiolite(Peridotite Nappe)consists primarily of harzburgites,locally overlain by mafic-ultramafic cumulates,and minor spinel and plagioclase *** this study,a comprehensive geochemical data set(major and trace element,Sr-Nd-Pb isotopes)has been obtained on a new set of fresh harzburgites in order to track the processes recorded by this mantle section and its *** studied harzburgites are low-strain tectonites showing porphyroclastic textures,locally grading into protomylonitic *** exhibit a refractory nature,as attested by the notable absence of primary clinopyroxene,very high Fo content of olivine(91-93 mol.%),high Mg#of orthopyroxene(0.91-0.93)and high cr#of spinel(0.44-0.71).The harzburgites are characterised by remarkably low REE concentrations(chondritic values)and display"U-shaped"profiles,with steeply sloping HREE(DyN/YbN=0.07-0.16)and fractionated LREE-MREE segments(LaN/SmN=2.1-8.3),in the range of modern fore-arc *** modelling shows that the HREE composition of the harzburgites can be reproduced by multi-stage melting including a first phase of melt depletion in dry conditions(15%fractional melting),followed by hydrous melting in a subduction zone setting(up to 15%-18%).However,melting models fail to explain the enrichments observed for some FME(***,Sr,Pb),LREE-MREE and *** enrichments,coupled with the frequent occurrence of thin,undeformed films of Al2 O3,and caO-poor orthopyroxene(Al2O3=0.88-1.53 wt.%,caO=0.31-0.56 wt.%)and clinopyroxene with low Na2 O(0.03-0.16 wt.%),Al2 O3(0.66-1.35 wt.%)and TiO2(0.04-0.10 wt.%)contents,point to FME addition during fluid-assisted melting followed by late stage metasomatism most likely operated by subductionrelated melts with a depleted trace element *** isotopic ratios range from unradiogenic to radiogenic(-0.80correlate with Sr isotopes(0.70257≤87Sr/86Sr≤0.70770).Pb isotopes cover a wide range,trendi

PM_(2.5)characterization of primary and secondary organic aerosols in two urban-industrial areas in the East Mediterranean

Primary and secondary organic aerosols in PM_(2.5)were investigated over a one-year campaign at Zouk Mikael and Fiaa,*** n-alkanes concentrations were quite similar at both sites(26-29 ng/m^(3))and mainly explained by anthropogenic emissions rather than natural *** concentrations of total Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons(PAHs)were nearly three times higher at Zouk Mikael(2.56 ng/m^(3))compared to Fiaa(0.95 ng/m^(3)),especially for indeno[1,2,3-c,d]pyrene linked to the presence of the power plant.A characteristic indeno[1,2,3-c,d]pyrene/(indeno[1,2,3-c,d]pyrene+benzo[g,h,i]perylene)ratio in the range0.8-1.0 was determined for heavy fuel oil combustion from the power *** acids and hopanes were also investigated and were assigned to cooking activities and vehicular emissions *** were identified for the first time in Lebanon with high concentrations at Zouk and Fiaa(106.88 and 97.68 ng/m^(3) respectively).Moreover,the biogenic secondary aerosols revealed higher concentrations in *** total terpene concentration varied between 131 ng/m^(3) at Zouk Mikael in winter to 469 ng/m3 at Fiaa in ***,the concentrations of the dicarboxylic acids especially for adipic and phthalic acids were more influenced by anthropogenic *** analysis of molecular markers and diagnostic ratios indicated that the sites were strongly affected by anthropogenic sources such as waste open burning,diesel private generators,cooking activities,road transport,power plant,and industrial ***,results showed different pattern during winter and summer ***,higher concentrations of biogenic markers were clearly encountered during the summer period.

Few studies have analyzed the effect of ve- nous thromboembolism （VTE） events on the prognosis of pancreatic cancer, but their results were conflicting. The pres- ent study was undertaken to determine the effect of VTE on pancreatic adenocarcinoma （PA） outcomes. METHODS： All consecutive patients diagnosed with PA from May 2004 to January 2012 in a single oncology center were retrospectively studied. clinical, radiological and histologi- cal data at time of diagnosis or within the first 3 months after surgery, including the presence （＋） or absence （-） of VTE were collected. VTE was defined as radiological evidence of either pulmonary embolism （PE）, deep venous thrombosis without infection or catheter-related thrombosis. PA with and without PE was compared for survival using the Kaplan-Meier method to estimate overall survival. RESULTS： Among 162 PA patients with a median follow-up of 15 （3-92） months after diagnosis, 28 demonstratedVTE （＋）. PA patients with and without PE were similar for age, American Society of Anesthesiologist score, body mass index, and histo- ry of treatment. The distribution of cancer stages was similarbetween the two groups VTE （＋） and VTE （-）. The median du- ration of survival was significantly worse in the VTE （＋） group vs VTE （-）（12 vs 18 months, P=0.010）. In multivariate analysis, the presence of VTE and surgical treatment were independent prognostic factors for overall survival. cONcLUSION： VTE （＋） at time of diagnosis or within the first 3 months after surgery during treatment is an indepen- dent factor of poor prognosis in PA.

Quality of life, physical performance and nutritional status in older patients hospitalized in a cardiology department

Objectives Quality of life(QoL) is a priority outcome in older adults suffering from cardiovascular diseases. Frailty and poor nutritional status may affect the QoL through mobility disorders and exhaustion. The objective of this study was to determine if physical frailty and nutritional status were associated with QoL, in older cardiology patients. Methods cross sectional, observational study conducted in a cardiology department from a university hospital. Participants(n = 100) were aged 70 and older. collected data included age, sex, cardiac diseases, New York Heart Association(NYHA) classification, comorbidities(charlson Index) and disability. A Short Physical Performance Battery(SPPB), including walking speed assessment was performed;handgrip strength were measured as well as Fried’s frailty phenotype. Nutritional status was assessed using the Mini Nutritional Assessment(MNA) and Body Mass Index(BMI), inflammation by c-reactive protein(cRP). QoL was assessed using the EORTc–QLQ questionnaire. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to study the associations between all recorded parameters and QoL. Results In participants(mean age: 79.3 ± 6.7 years;male: 59%), charlson index, arrhythmia, heart failure, NYHA class III-IV, MNA, disability, walking speed, SPPB score, frailty and cRP were significantly associated with QoL in univariate analysis. Multivariate analysis showed that NYHA class III-IV(P core(P = 0.03), frailty(P cRP(P ciated with decreased QoL. conclusions Frailty, nutritional status and inflammation were independently associated with poor QoL. Further studies are needed to assess the efficacy of nutritional and physical interventions on QoL in this population.

Does urodynamics predict voiding after benign prostatic hyperplasia surgery in patients with detrusor underactivity?

Objective:We sought to determine if urodynamic study(UDS)predicted voiding outcomes in men with detrusor underactivity(DU)and benign prostatic enlargement(BPE)who underwent photovaporization of the prostate(PVP).Methods:Between September 2010 and July 2015,106 male patients with BPE and DU were *** patients underwent *** retention was noted by the preoperative necessity for an indwelling or intermittent *** collection included comorbidities,quality of life(QoL)scores,prostate volume,prostate-specific antigen(PSA),UDS and perioperative *** parameters included volume at first desire to void,volume at first urge to void,volume of severe urge,volume at capacity,compliance,detrusor contractions,maximum urinary flow rate(Qmax),and postvoid residual(PVR).Results:A total of 106 men were included in this analysis,who had urinary retention with a Foley catheter or clean intermittent catheterization(cIc)at the time of *** baseline we found patients who voided had a detrusor pressure at Qmax(Pdet@Qmax)of 10.05±6.45 cmH2O compared to 16.78±12.17 cmH2O in those who did not void(p=0.071).Postoperatively,96(90.6%,mean age 76.9±26.2 years)of patients voided successfully while 10(9.4%,mean age 80.52±9.61 years)of patients remained in urinary *** baseline Qmax was 4.895±5.452 mL/s and 2.900±3.356 mL/s(p=0.087)in those who voided and did not *** was 319.23±330.62 mL in those who voided and 276.88263.27 mL(p=0.344)in those who did not *** UDS parameter predicted who would void postoperatively or improvements in ***:The patients with DU and BPE might be able to successfully void after undergoing PVP regardless of UDS *** men who voided had improved international prostate symptom score and QoL scores compared to baseline and these parameters were durable up to 12 months.

A Multilevel core Sampler Device to Directly Estimate Food Supply Accessible to Waders

To understand food webs functioning in intertidal soft-sediments, it is critical to assess the macrobenthic prey fraction accessible to waders. Here we describe a simple core sampler device allowing to directly relating the vertical distribution of macrozoobenthos to waders bill length. Bill length measurements were used as a proxy of probing depth to estimate the amount of food supply accessible. Several metal plates can be inserted in the core sampler at different heights according to the bill length data of the studied species. These data are provided in a literature survey. For each species, the bill length variability is then explicitly taken into account in the estimation of food accessibility. The core is transparent to check for the quality of the sample. It could also be used to estimate a Benthic Habitat Quality index (BHQ) based on characteristics of the vertical structure of the sediment. This multilevel core is easy to build and to adapt to any studied wader species of the intertidal zone, floodplains or other wetlands. The samples are obtained with the same effort as with usual circular cores leading to the possibility to survey large area. With one core sample, the ecological information that can be achieved at once is threefold: 1) benthic community structure (partitioned in several depths), 2) estimate of the accessible food fraction to waders (range of values) and 3) habitat quality index assessment.

Drug resistance in glioblastoma:are persisters the key to therapy

Glioblastoma(GBM)represents the main form of brain tumors in adults,and one of the most aggressive cancers *** treatment of GBM is a combination of surgery(when possible),chemotherapy(usually Temozolomide,TMZ)and radiotherapy(RT).However,despite this heavy treatment,GBM invariably recur and the median length of survival following diagnosis is 12 to 15 months,with less than 10%of people surviving longer than five *** is extremely resistant to most treatments because of its heterogeneous nature,which is associated with extreme clonal plasticity and the presence of cancer stem cells,refractory to TMZ-and RT-induced cell *** this review,we explore the mechanisms by which cancer cells,and especially GBM,can acquire resistance to *** describe and discuss the concept of persister/tolerant cells that precede and/or accompany the acquisition of ***/tolerant cells are cancer cells that are not eliminated by treatment(s)because of different mechanisms ranging from dormancy/quiescence to *** discuss the possibility of targeting these mechanisms in new therapeutic regimen.
