This paper presents a real-time mechanism to tolerate faults occurring in a wind turbine （WT） system. This system is composed of a FAST coded simulator designed by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The demonstrated mechanism lies under the taxonomy of active fault-tolerant control （FTC） systems, namely online redesign based approach. In the proposed approach, we do not use any a priori information about the model of the turbine in real-time. In fact, we use online measurements generated by the WT. Based on the given control specifications, and the observed measurement an occurred fault is accommodated by reconfiguring the online controller such that the WT generates rated power even under faulty conditions. Second, no explicit fault diagnosis （FD） module is used in this approach. As a result, issues of model uncertainty, false alarms, etc. associated with an integrated FD and controller reconfiguration approach to FTC systems are not experienced here.

The influence of in-port ship emissions on gases and PM10 concentrations has been estimated in the port city of Calais, northern France, one of the busiest harbor in Europe, with numerous rotations of ferries or roll-on/roll-off cargo in average per day. NOx, SO2, O3 and PM10 concentrations were continuously measured over a three-month period, as well as real-time particle size distribution. A rural site located at Cape Gris-Nez, 20 km from Calais, was considered to deduce intrinsic contribution of ship emissions at the harbor city. The average concentrations of the studied species as well as the pattern of the conditional bivariate probability function at the two sites evidenced that in-port shipping, especially during the maneuvering operations, has an important influence on the NOx and SO2 concentrations. The impact of shipping in the harbor of Calais on average concentrations was estimated to 5l% for SO2, 35% for NO, 15% for NO2 and 2% for PM10 in the studied period. Concentration peaks of SO2 and NOx associated with an 03 depletion appeared synchronized with departures and arrivals of ferries. For winds blowing from the harbor, when compared to the background level, the number of particles appeared 10 times higher, with the highest differences in the 30-67 nm and the 109-167 nm size ranges. The average impact of in-port ships on PM10 concentrations was estimated to ＋28.9 μg/m^3 and concerned mainly the PM1 size fraction （40%）. Punctually, PM10 can potentially reach a concentration value close to 100μg/m^3.

In modeling of overland flow and erosion, the overland flow friction factor(f), is a crucial factor. Due to the importance of a good understanding of f and its variability, the current study aimed to investigate the capability of non-linear approaches to estimate the Darcy-Weisbach friction factor of overland flow and its components(sediment transport, wave, form, and grain friction factors) through the Extreme Learning Machine(ELM) approach. Four datasets were used herein which were obtained from flume experiments done by different researchers. In order to investigate the effects of different parameters on the friction factor, numerous models consisting of various parameters were utilized to predict the friction factor using the ELM approach. The modeling procedure was established in two stages; the first stage aimed to model the overland flow friction factor and investigate the effect of the different parameters on the friction factor using non-linear separation via the ELM approach. In the second stage, the friction factor was linearly separated into different types of friction factors and then the separate components were estimated. Sensitivity analysis results confirmed the key role of Froude number(Fr) values for most of the models. On the other hand, the results obtained for estimated values of the friction factor were acceptable and outperformed available empirical approaches.

We develop a two-relaxation-time (TRT) Lattice Boltzmann model for hydrodynamicequations with variable source terms based on equivalent equilibriumfunctions. A special parametrization of the free relaxation parameter is derived. Itcontrols, in addition to the non-dimensional hydrodynamic numbers, any TRT macroscopicsteady solution and governs the spatial discretization of transient flows. Inthis framework, the multi-reflection approach [16, 18] is generalized and extended forDirichlet velocity, pressure and mixed (pressure/tangential velocity) boundary *** propose second and third-order accurate boundary schemes and adapt themfor corners. The boundary schemes are analyzed for exactness of the parametrization,uniqueness of their steady solutions, support of staggered invariants and for the effectiveaccuracy in case of time dependent boundary conditions and transient *** the boundary scheme obeys the parametrization properly, the derived permeabilityvalues become independent of the selected viscosity for any porous structureand can be computed efficiently. The linear interpolations [5, 46] are improved withrespect to this property.

Hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection is one of the most common causes of chronic liver disease and the main indication for liver transplantation worldwide. As promising specific treatments have been introduced for genotype 1, clinicians and researchers are now focusing on patients infected by non-genotype 1 HCV, particularly genotype 3. Indeed, in the golden era of direct-acting antiviral drugs, genotype 3 infections are no longer considered as easy to treat and are associated with higher risk of developing severe liver injuries, such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Moreover, HCV genotype 3 accounts for 40% of all HCV infections in Asia and is the most frequent genotype among HCV-positive injecting drug users in several countries. Here, we review recent data on HCV genotype 3 infection/treatment, including clinical aspects and the underlying genotype-specific molecular mechanisms.

Predicting characteristics of dune bedforms using PSO-LSSVM

Dunes have a large influence on hydraulic roughness, and, thereby, on water levels which could affect the navigability of rivers and performance of hydraulic structures. The present study investigated the variation of geometric and topographic characteristics of dune bedforms and flow features as measured in laboratory studies(data sets from laboratory experiments) to estimate the roughness coefficient and characteristics of dune height. The Least Squares Support Vector Machine(LSSVM), which was optimized using Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO), was used as the Meta model approach to predict the values of interest. Developed models were separated into three categories: modeling using flow characteristics,modeling of flow and bedform characteristics, and modeling by using flow and sediment *** was found that for estimation of the roughness coefficient in open channels with dune bedforms,models developed based on flow and sediment characteristics performed more successfully. The model with input parameters of flow and grain Reynolds numbers(Re and R, respectively) and the ratio of the hydraulic radius(R) to the median grain diameter(D) yields a squared correlation coefficient(R2) of0.8609, a coefficient of determination(DC) of 0.7361,and a root mean square error(RMSE) of 0.0034 for a test series of Manning’s roughness coefficient which was the most accurate model. Results proved the key role of flow Reynolds number(Re) values as an input feature for all models predicting the roughness coefficient. Accordingly, classic approaches led to poor results in comparison. On the other hand, results obtained for estimated values of relative dune height led to moderate prediction quality, which albeit,outperformed classic approaches.

For simple hydrodynamic solutions, where the pressure and the velocity arepolynomial functions of the coordinates, exact microscopic solutions are constructedfor the two-relaxation-time (TRT) Lattice Boltzmann model with variable forcing andsupported by exact boundary schemes. We show how simple numerical and analyticalsolutions can be interrelated for Dirichlet velocity, pressure and mixed (pressure/tangential velocity) multi-reflection (MR) type schemes. Special care is taken toadapt themfor corners, to examine the uniqueness of the obtained steady solutions andstaggered invariants, to validate their exact parametrization by the non-dimensionalhydrodynamic and a “kinetic” (collision) number. We also present an inlet/outlet“constant mass flux” condition. We show, both analytically and numerically, that thekinetic boundary schemes may result in the appearance of Knudsen layers which arebeyond the methodology of the Chapman-Enskog analysis. Time dependent Dirichletboundary conditions are investigated for pulsatile flow driven by an oscillating pressuredrop or forcing. Analytical approximations are constructed in order to extend thepulsatile solution for compressible regimes.
