Background:Surgery in Crohn’s disease(CD)may be associated with poor prognosis and clinical and surgical *** aim of this study was to describe and compare the post-operative management and outcomes of patients with CD who underwent first vs recurrent ***:Observational study that included adult CD patients from 26 Spanish hospitals who underwent ileocolonic resection with ileocolonic anastomosis between January 2007 and December *** were retrospectively collected from the medical ***:Data from 314 patients were analysed,of whom 262(83%)underwent first surgery and 52(17%)referred to previous CD *** characteristics were similar between the two groups except for a higher rate of stricturing behavior at diagnosis among re-operated patients(P=0.03).After surgery,a higher proportion of re-operated patients received prophylactic treatment with immunomodulators compared with patients with first surgery(P=0.04).In re-operated patients,time to clinical recurrence was not associated with the fact of receiving or not prophylaxis,whereas,in patients with first surgery,recurrence-free survival was greater when prophylaxis was received(P=0.03).Conclusions:After surgery,a higher proportion of patients with previous surgeries received prophylactic treatment with immunomodulators compared with patients with first *** prophylactic treatment was beneficial for preventing clinical recurrence in patients operated on for the first time,it did not significantly reduce the risk of further recurrence in patients with previous *** suggests that effective prophylactic therapies are still needed in this subset of patients.

Confidence bands in a Normal Q-Q Plot allow us to detect non-normality of a data set rigorously, and in such a way that the conclusion does not depend on the subjectivity of the observer of the graph. In the construction of the graph, it is usual to fit a straight line to the plotted points, which serves both to check the hypothesis of normality (linear configuration of the plotted points) and to produce estimates of the parameters of the distribution. We can opt for dif-ferent types of lines. In this paper, we study the influence of five types of fitted straight lines in a Normal Q-Q Plot used for construction the confidence bands based on the exact distribution of the order statistics.

In mixed fisheries where there is an increased ecological interdependence between two or more target species, the possibilities of fishing these species must be determined jointly, since catches of one species will impact the natural growth not only of that species but of the others, as well. The objective of this paper is to develop a predator-prey model for two major species caught by the EU fishing fleet on European Union fishing grounds. The predator and prey’s population dynamics follow the Lotka-Volterra equation and are assumed to be logic-based, and a lineal interaction between the predator and prey populations is assumed. Optimal single owner multispecies fishery management is analysed, and the applied model is solved, obtaining the equilibrium value of biomasses, catches, and net benefits of the mixed fishery. The results show that the MSY of the predator is higher than that estimated by ICES, while MSY for prey is lower. The sensitivity analysis of the results reveals that the biomass levels of both species decrease as the discount rate increases, while catches increase.

Over 75% of people infected with hIV live in countries where health resources are very limited for the diagnosis and biological monitoring of people infected by the virus. In resource-limited settings, the use of DBS is a valuable alternative. It has provided technical and economical alternative to the collection of blood in the tubes for testing hIV infection. The DBS can be kept for over a year, it is economical in storage space and facilitates storage conditions because it can be stored at room temperature. It is more discreet and easier to carry over liquid samples that require tubes and other appropriate materials. The amount is sufficient for certain analyses of DNA generally, but may be insufficient for the analysis of viral RNA if the viral load is low. Its disadvantage is often associated with small amounts of blood collected available for testing, and the difficulties encountered in laboratories to extract the maximum possibilities without material contamination. DBS can be stored at room temperature (25℃ - 35℃), at 4℃, -20℃ or even -70℃. With PCR, the DBS is a suitable medium for the diagnosis of patients infected with hIV, virological monitoring by the VL and even analyzing viral genotype. It is a handy stand for the collection, transport and analyses of biological monitoring of hIV infection. It is indeed very suitable for environments with limited accessibility where it is difficult for specialized laboratories to monitor these patients. The DBS is suitable for resource-limited settings.

The patient with inflammatory bowel disease will be predisposed to numerous infections due their immune status. It is therefore important to understand the immune and serologic status at diagnosis and to put the patient into an adapted vaccination program. This program would be applied differently according to two patient groups: the immunocompromised and the non-immunocom-promised. In general, the first group would avoid the use of live-virus vaccines, and in all cases, inflammatory bowel disease treatment would take precedence over vaccine risk. It is important to individualize vaccination schedules according to the type of patient, the treatment used and the disease *** addition, patient with inflammatory bowel disease should be considered for the following vaccines: varicella vaccine, human papilloma virus, influenza, pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine and hepatitis B vaccine.

Polyarteritis nodosa(PAN) is one of the systemic vasculitis that affects the media wall of arteries of small and medium diameter. Diagnosis proves difficult due to the unspecific symptoms that dominate the clinical profile. Liver involvement is very diverse, ranging from the development of cirrhotic liver disease to acute abdomen presentation that requires surgery because of liver rupture. The management of these patients requires an expert multidisciplinary team. There are several cases in the literature that describe a sudden liver rupture as the first manifestation of a PAN. In this paper we present the case of a 75 years old patient without any previous disease, who is subjected to major hepatic resection for spontaneous liver rupture.
