Background and Aim: Patients with advanced liver disease have several risk factors to develop nutritional deficiencies. Accurate nutritional assessment is a real challenge because many of the traditionally measured parameters of nutritional status vary with severity of liver disease independently of nutritional status. The objective of this study was to assess the Egyptian patients with end stage liver disease and to compare different tools used to assess their nutritional status. Patients and Methods: 60 patients were nutritionally assessed by SGA, RFH-SGA anthropometry, handgrip dynamometry and biochemical tests. Clinical variables were cross analyzed with the nutritional assessment methods. Results: Malnutrition ranged from 7% by BMI and 100% by SGA. Agreement among all the methods was low compared with the SGA. Correlation between Malnutrition prevalence and the severity of liver disease was verified using Child-Pugh score more than MELD score. Conclusion: Malnutrition is highly prevalent among the Egyptian patients with end stage liver disease prior to liver transplantation. Although the diagnosis of nutritional status is not easy among this category of patients, it varied according to the method used. Nutritional support should be an important part of the preoperative care of liver transplantation patients.

Characterization and Impact of Cattle Manure Particle Size on Physical Properties of Sandy Soils

Sandy soils have poor physical properties, which cause them to drain quickly and not hold water well;however, with the addition of cattle manure, sandy soil can be improved. Therefore, experiments were conducted to investigate the characterization and impact of different particle sizes of cattle manure (CMS) on improving some physical properties of sandy soil and thus the yield of lettuce. Cattle manure was ground to powder and was sieved with three different Particle sizes 4.76-2 (CMS1), 2-0.8 (CMS2), 0.8-0.4 (CMS3) mm. Some physical properties were measured for different Particle sizes of manure. A batch of sorption experiments was carried out to study the role of different Particle sizes of manure on adsorption of N, P and K from aqueous solution. Two experiments were carried out on sandy soil (pots and field) to study the impact of adding CMS (5 ton/fed) to enhance some physical properties of sandy soil. The results indicated that the physical properties of cattle manure changed based on particle size fractionation, where Bulk density and saturated water holding capacity increased as particle size decreased, while porosity reduced as particle size decreased. The results of the sorption parameters of N, P and K on different particle sizes of manure indicated that maximum sorption occurred on CMS 3 for both P and K according to Langmuir and Freundlich sorption models. Two experiments showed that CMS had affected significantly the total porosity (TP), bulk density (Bd), slowly drainable pores (SDP), water holding pores and (WHP) available water (AW) in comparison to control. The CMS had a slight effect on Quickly-drainable pores (QDP) and fine capillary pores (FCP) as compared to the control in both experiments. Fresh weight, dry weight and number of leaf lettuce increased significantly with decreasing particle sizes of cattle manure as compared to control.

Objective: To analyze the phytochemical constituents, and to explore potential protective effect of the methanol extract of Moringa oleifera(M. oleifera) seeds and Egyptian propolis, each alone or concurrently administered on acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis in rats. Methods: Eight groups of 5 rats each were used: normal control group with distilled water, model group, two groups with M. oleifera seeds(100 and 200 mg/kg), two groups with propolis(50 and 100 mg/kg), one group with concurrent administration of both, and one group with prednisolone(reference drug). Macro-and microscopic picture, ulcer index and lesion scores, oxidative markers, inflammatory mediators, in vitro activity of the inflammatory enzymes and 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radicals scavenging activity were evaluated. The phytochemical constituents of both extracts were explored by GC-MS analysis. Results: Both treatments modulated the macro-and microscopic picture, decreased the ulcerative index, lesion score, oxidative markers and inflammatory mediators, and inhibited the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes. Propolis appeared to be powerful free radicals scavenger. A powerful synergistic effect of both treatments in modulating the course of the disease was reported. GCMS analysis of methanol extract of M. oleifera seeds and propolis revealed the presence of 50 and 34 compounds, respectively. Conclusions: M. oleifera seeds and propolis methanol extracts have modulated the course of acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis. Moreover, both treatments induce a good synergistic effect against the disease. Isolation of the active constituents is recommended.

The design of an antenna requires a careful selection of its parameters to retain the desired ***,this task is time-consuming when the traditional approaches are employed,which represents a significant *** the other hand,machine learning presents an effective solution to this challenge through a set of regression models that can robustly assist antenna designers to find out the best set of design parameters to achieve the intended *** this paper,we propose a novel approach for accurately predicting the bandwidth of metamaterial *** proposed approach is based on employing the recently emerged guided whale optimization algorithm using adaptive particle swarm optimization to optimize the parameters of the long-short-term memory(LSTM)deep *** optimized network is used to retrieve the metamaterial bandwidth given a set of *** addition,the superiority of the proposed approach is examined in terms of a comparison with the traditional multilayer perceptron(ML),Knearest neighbors(K-NN),and the basic LSTM in terms of several evaluation criteria such as root mean square error(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),and mean bias error(MBE).Experimental results show that the proposed approach could achieve RMSE of(0.003018),MAE of(0.001871),and MBE of(0.000205).These values are better than those of the other competing models.

Abnormalities in insulin metabolism, characteristic of T2DM, are among the major factors thought to mechanistically influence the onset of AD. These abnormalities are thought to play a role in AD via their influence on the synthesis and degradation of Aβ and as a consequence of the cascade of neuronal alterations resulting from the effects of danger/alarm signals from oligomeric amyloid species. Additionally, recent studies have indicated that certain signal transduction pathways downstream of the InsR may also promote the generation of Aβ peptides by modulating the cleavage of the parent Aβ precursor protein (AβPP) at the γ-secretase site, a cleavage site necessary for Aβ amyloidogenicity. Glucose homeostasis is critical for energy generation, neuronal maintenance, neurogenesis, neurotransmitter regulation, cell survival and synaptic plasticity. It also plays a key role in cognitive function. In an insulin resistance condition, there is a reduced sensitivity to insulin resulting in hyperinsulinemia;this condition persists for several years before becoming full blown diabetes. Toxic levels of insulin negatively influence neuronal function and survival, and elevation of peripheral insulin concentration acutely increases its cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentration. Peripheral hyperinsulinemia correlates with an abnormal removal of the amyloid beta peptide (Aβ) and an increase of tau hyperphosphorylation as a result of augmented cdk5 and GSK3β activities. This leads to cellular cascades that trigger a neurodegenerative phenotype and decline in cognitive function. Chronic peripheral hyperinsulinemia results in a reduction of insulin transport across the BBB and reduced insulin signaling in brain, altering all of insulin’s actions, including its anti-apoptotic effect. However, the increase in brain insulin levels resulting from its peripheral administration at optimal doses has shown a cognition enhancing effect on patient with AD.

通过催化热解农业废弃物甘蔗渣(SCB),采用两步工艺生产具有显著应用价值的碳纳米管(CNTs)。主要研究沸石催化剂(HZSM-5、HMOR和HY)、热解温度(450−700℃)和SCB/ZSM-5的比例(3−12)对SCB催化热解的影响,确定最佳工艺参数。随后,将第一步产生富含碳的热解产物用于第二步由Co-Mo/MgO催化生长CNTs。通过简单的两步工艺催化热解SCB生产CNTs。SCB的催化热解在半间歇式反应器(外径=4 cm,长度=90 cm)中进行,CNTs的生长在水平反应器(外径=2.5 cm,长度=100 cm)中进行。两个反应器通过玻璃管(直径0.6 cm,长度12 cm)连接并将热解产物从反应器I转移到反应器II。在半间歇式反应器中放入经过预处理的SCB和沸石催化剂,并以20℃/min加热到反应所需温度。随后,将0.5 g Co-Mo/MgO加入到水平反应器中作为CNTs的生长催化剂。在一个典型的实验中,将2 g沸石催化剂、24 g SCB放入半间歇式反应器,研究了不同种类沸石催化剂在500℃温度条件下对SCB热解的影响。接着,使用HZSM-5研究了不同温度(450−700℃)对SCB热解的影响。最后,研究了不同SCB/ZSM-5投料比例(SCB/ZSM-5=3、6、9、12)对SCB热解的影响。此外,水平反应器中的CNTs生长温度恒定为700℃。通过XRD、TPR和TPD进行催化剂表征。XRD谱图证实了催化剂存在MgO和Co_(3)O_(4),以及以小尺寸颗粒形式存在的CoMoO4和MgMoO4。使用XRD数据根据Scherrer方程计算45%Co-5%Mo/MgO催化剂的平均晶粒尺寸为25.8 nm。TPR分析表明,Co-Mo/MgO催化剂是由未反应的Co_(3)O_(4)以及混合氧化物组成。使用XRD数据,计算得到HZSM-5、HMOR和HY的平均晶粒尺寸分别为43、41和51 nm。NH3-TPD分析表明沸石催化剂存在大量的酸性位点。催化热解SCB结果表明,由HY和HZSM-5催化剂在500℃得到的挥发性产品(生物油和气体)的总收率值分别为34.4%和32.8%,而使用HMOR产生的这些挥发性产品的收率值最低(28.8%)。用HZSM-5催化热解SCB获得了最高的炭产量(23.1%)。然而,使用HMOR和HY热解催化剂产生的炭产量值较低,分别为15.8%和9.8%。使用TEM表征通过两步法生产的碳纳米管,并且测量了CNTs的外径。数据显示,用HZSM-5进行SCB热解产生了直径分布范围较宽的CNTs(10−56 nm),而用HMOR和HY热解催化剂则分别获得了直径较窄的CNTs(13−44 nm,12−28 nm)。拉曼光谱分析表明,使用HZSM-5作为SCB热解的催化剂可以生产最优的CNTs。研究了不同热解温度对CNTs产量的影响。结果显示,将热解温度从450℃提高到500℃,炭产率值从6.7%达到最佳值23.1%,接着增加温度至700℃,炭产量下降至16.7%。随后对不同温度下催化热解形成的炭产品进行TEM表征,结果显示,随着温度的升高炭产品中CNTs的比例下降,CNTs的直径范围变窄。拉曼光谱分析结果表明,在500和700℃形成的CNMs具有最少的缺陷。研究了投料比例对炭产品产量的影响,结果表明,SCB/ZSM-5的比例从3提高到12,生物油和气体的总产量从36.4%下降到32.8%,而生物炭的产量分别从63.6%增加到67.2%。根据催化剂的质量计算得到炭产量的最佳值是使用SCB/ZSM-5比例为6。使用TEM表征不同投料比例生产的炭产品,分析表征结果可得SCB/ZSM-5的比例为6,是形成具有良好质量的致密CNTs的最佳选择。并且不同投料比例的拉曼光谱显示,SCB/ZSM-5比例为6可以生产最优的CNTs。沸石类型(HZSM-5、HMOR和HY)、热解温度(450−700℃)和SCB/ZSM-5比例(3−12)影响CNTs和热解产物(气体、生物油和生物炭)的产量。实验结果表明,获得最高CNTs产量的条件为:热解温度为500℃、SCB/ZSM-5比例为6;获得最高生物油和气体总产量(40%)的条件为:热解温度为700℃、SCB/ZSM-5比例为12。TEM分析表明,使用HZSM-5催化剂在热解温度450℃只生成竹节状碳纳米管(BCNTs),而CNTs和碳纳米洋葱(CNO)是在较高温度热解温度(500−700℃)下产生的。使用SCB/ZSM-5的比例为6时,生成CNTs的直径分布范围最大(7−76 nm)。拉曼光谱分析表明,使用SCB/ZSM-5的比例为6时,形成的CNTs最优。该研究显示,在半间歇式反应器中催化热解SCB是生产CNTs的有效技术,通过对工艺和反应器的优化可以达到更好的效果。

Metaheuristic optimization algorithms present an effective method for solving several optimization problems from various types of applications and *** metaheuristics and evolutionary optimization algorithms have been emerged recently in the literature and gained widespread attention,such as particle swarm optimization(PSO),whale optimization algorithm(WOA),grey wolf optimization algorithm(GWO),genetic algorithm(GA),and gravitational search algorithm(GSA).According to the literature,no one metaheuristic optimization algorithm can handle all present optimization *** novel optimization methodologies are still *** Al-Biruni earth radius(BER)search optimization algorithm is proposed in this *** proposed algorithm was motivated by the behavior of swarm members in achieving their global *** search space around local solutions to be explored is determined by Al-Biruni earth radius calculation method.A comparative analysis with existing state-of-the-art optimization algorithms corroborated the findings of BER’s validation and testing against seven mathematical optimization *** results show that BER can both explore and avoid local *** has also been tested on an engineering design optimization *** results reveal that,in terms of performance and capability,BER outperforms the performance of state-of-the-art metaheuristic optimization algorithms.

Phytochemical, antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of different fractions of Moringa oleifera leaves methanol extract against liver injury in animal model

Objective: To evaluate the potential antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of n-hexane, dichloromethane(DCM), ethyl acetate(EtOAc), n-butanol and aqueous fractions of Moringa oleifera(M. oleifera) leaves methanol extract against carbon tetrachloride(CCl_4)-induced liver injury in rats. Methods: These fractions were prepared from the M. oleifera leaves methanol extract by solubilization in water and partitioning in n-hexane, EtOAc, DCM and n-butanol. Their phyto-components were identified by GC-MS analysis. The in vitro antioxidant effect of these fractions was carried out by assessment of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl scavenging activity. A total of 40 Sprague Dawley rats were allocated into 8 equal groups: group 1 given olive oil(1 m L/kg ***.), group 2 injected with CCl_4, group 3 to 7 administered with n-hexane, DCM, EtOAc, n-butanol and aqueous fractions, respectively after CCl_4, group 8 administered with silymarin after CCl_4. The activities of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and the levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, total proteins and albumin in serum were determined spectrophotometrically. Glutathione reduced, lipid peroxide by-products levels, glutathione-s-transferase and catalase enzyme activities in the liver homogenate were determined by spectrophotometer. Liver specimens were also examined for histopathological alterations under light microscope. Results: The GCMS analysis of different fractions of the M. oleifera leaves methanol extract revealed that n-hexane, DCM, EtOAc, n-butanol, and aqueous fractions contained 17, 22, 23, 19 and 32 compounds, respectively. The percent and the molecular structure of each component in each fraction were identified. The n-butanol and EtOAc fractions exhibited the strongest in vitro antioxidant activity against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl. Methylene Blue Dye Adsorption onto Polyoxometalate Ionic Liquid Supported on Bentonite: Kinetic, Equilibrium and Thermodynamic Studies

The potential of polyoxometalate ionic liquid POM-IL supported on low-cost and available eco-friendly Saudi raw bentonite in the adsorption of MB cationic dye was investigated. For this purpose, TOAx[α-XW11O39]@Bentonite (X = Si, P;TOA = TetraOctylAmmonium), namely SWB and PWB were prepared and characterized by IR, XRD, XRF, SEM, TEM and BET. Batch adsorption experiments showed that SWB and PWB have higher adsorption capacity than the raw bentonite with an enhancement of about 37% for SWB. The adsorption capacities of both SWB and PWB improved with increasing contact time and temperature and decreased with higher salt concentration in solution. The pH is shown to have insignificant effect on the adsorption of MB onto SWB and PWB. This result is quite meaningful in the adsorption process application since it makes pH complicated adjustment of the discharged contaminated water before treatment unnecessary. The Kinetic study expressed that the pseudo-second-order model described the adsorption process better than the pseudo first order. The experimental isotherm data were found to fit the Langmuir model compared to the Freundlich model with a maximum adsorption capacity 277.78 mg/g and 113.6 for PWB and SWB respectively. The
