Diagnostic value ultrasound signs of stones less than or equal to 10 mm and clinicoradiological variants of ureteric colic

Objective:To determine the diagnostic value of ultrasound signs of urinary stones less than or equal to 10 mm and to determine clinico-radiological variants of ureteric ***:A total of 455 ultrasound investigations were performed in patients referring to emergency department with urolithiasis and symptoms suspected of ureteric colic between January 2021 and May *** addition to microscopic evaluation of urine sediment to detect different crystals and non-contrast spiral computed tomography to detect stones,B-mode and color Doppler sonography was performed to assess the presence of acoustic shadow(AS)and twinkle artifacts(TA)as possible signs of stone(s)in ***:While the sensitivity and specificity of AS and TA were higher than 90%in patients with stones greater than 5 mm;positive prognostic values of these parameters were found to be extremely low for stones with sizes of 1-3 mm with specificity and sensitivity values not exceeding 53%.The sensitivity and specificity of AS and TA in the upper and lower ureters were higher for stones greater than or equal to 5 than for compared to those less than 5 *** the same time,the diagnostic values of TA and AS for middle ureter stones were very *** most prevalent clinico-radiological variants of ureteric colic were types I,III,and V being observed in 39%,28% and 21% cases,***:Our results demonstrate that TA and AS parameters seem to have a very low sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of urinary stones less than 5 *** diagnostic value of TA and AS increase significantly in stones greater than or equal to 5 ***,clinicians need to be very careful for overestimating the diagnostic values of TA and AS for stones less than 5 mm and non-contrast spiral computed tomography must be the method of choice for patients presenting to emergency department with ureteric colic.

Background:Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)is one of the most common causes of lower urinary tract symp-toms(LUTS)in older ***,there are several plant extracts used for the treatment of LUTS due to ***:The aim of this study is to compare the effect of combining silodosin 8 mg with Serenoa repens,Urtica dioica,Cucurbita pepo(Rotaprost 530 mg)compared to silodosin 8 mg and Rotaprost 530 mg alone in patients with LUTS/***:Four hundred five men with symptomatic BPH were recruited for the study from June 2020 to Jan-uary *** hundred eighty-nine patients were followed up for 6 *** participants provided writ-ten informed *** prospective study included analysis of three treatment groups:Group I patients(n=130)received a combination of silodosin 8 mg and Rotaprost 530 mg(containing a dry extract of Serenoa repens 80 mg,a dry extract of Urtica dioica 150 mg,a dry extract of Cucurbita pepo seeds 200 mg,zinc(in the form of zinc picolinate)0.105 mg,and selenium(as sodium selenite)22.5μg);the group II(n=129)re-ceived silodosin 8 mg alone,and the group III(n=130)received Rotaprost 530 mg *** were measured by changes from baseline in International Prostate Symptom Score(IPPS)total score,PSA value,prostate volume,residual urine after urination,and maximum flow *** significance was set at Pn group I,IPSS,prostate volume,and maximum urinary flow rate(Qmax)improved significantly(Pnd III during *** volume in group I showed a significant decrease only during 6 months of therapy(Pno serious adverse effects were registered in the three ***:Combination therapy with silodosin 8 mg significantly reduced LUTS/BPH,Qmax,and prostate volume compared with silodosin 8 mg *** 530 mg can also reduce PSA by at least 20.6−25.7%after 6-months of treatment.

Experimental investigations of internal energy dissipation during fracture of fiber-reinforced ultra-high-performance concrete

Split-cylinder fracture of fiber-reinforced ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC)was examined using two complementary techniques:X-ray computed tomography (CT)and acoustic emission (AE).Fifty-mm-diameter specimens of two different fiber types were scanned both before and after load *** the CT images,fiber orientation was evaluated to establish optimum and pessimum specimen orientations,at which fibers would have maximum and minimum effect,*** expected,fiber orientation affected both the peak load and the toughness of the specimen,with the optimum toughness being between 20% and 30%higher than the *** AE energy was also affected *** CT scans of the specimens were used to measure internal damage. Damage was quantified in terms of internal energy dissipation due to both matrix cracking and fiber pullout by using calibration measurements for *** results showed that fiber pullout was the dominant energy dissipation mechanism;however,the sum of the internal energy dissipation measured amounted to only 60% of the total energy dissipated by the specimens as measured by the net work of *** is postulated that localized compaction of the UHPC matrix as well as internal friction between fractured fragments makes up the balance of internal energy dissipation.

We read with interest the article by Olechowski, et aL recently published in the Journal of Geriatric Cardiology. The results of this retrospective analysis of patients under- going cardiac resynchronization therapy （CRT） device implantation are in line with previous reports, suggesting that resynchronization therapy in the elderly is feasible and may lead to significant improvement of cardiac function and clinical status.

notes on the family Brassicaceae in China

A critical revision of the collections of Brassicaceae in some Chinese (PE, XJA, XJBI, XJFA, XJnM, XJU) and foreign (LE, P) herbaria is made. One genus, neurotropis (DC.) F. K. Mey., and 11 species, Alyssum szarabiacum nyár., Barbarea stricta Andrz., Erysimum czernjajevii n. Busch, Erysimum kotuchovii D. German, Erysimum mongolicum D. German, Lepidium karelinianum Al-Shehbaz, Matthiola superba Conti, neurotropis platycarpa (Fisch. & Mey.) F. K. Mey., Ptilotrichum dahuricum Peschkova, Sisymbrium subspinescens Bunge, and Smelowskia micrantha (Botsch. & Vved.) Al-Shehbaz & S. I. Warwick, are reported from China for the first time. Six species, Aphragmus involucratus (Bunge) O. E. Schulz, Dontostemon perennis C. A. Mey., Goldbachia torulosa DC., Lepidium amplexicaule Willd., neotorularia brevipes (Kar. & Kir.) Hedge & J. Léonard, and Parrya stenocarpa Kar. & Kir., are confirmed to occurr in China. Five species, Dontostemon integrifolius (L.) C. A. Mey., Draba zangbeiensis L. L. Lou, Lepidium alashanicum H. L. Yang, Sinapis arvensis L., and Strigosella brevipes (Bunge) Botsch., are reported as novelties for some provinces in China, and Strigosella hispida (Litv.) Botsch. occurs in Xinjiang, China. However, the occurrence of one genus, Pseudoarabidopsis Al-Shehbaz, O’Kane & Price, and four species, Draba huetii Boiss., Eutrema halophilum (C. A. Mey.) Al-Shehbaz & S. I. Warwick, Galitzkya spathulata (Steph. ex Willd.) V. Bocz., and Pseudoarabidopsis toxophylla (Bieb.) Al-Shehbaz, O’Kane & Price, could not be confirmed in China. Differential diagnosis of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and ventricular tachycardia (VT) is of paramount importance for appropriate patient management. Several diagnostic algorithms for discrimination of VT and SVT based on surface electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis have been proposed. Following established diagnosis of VT,a specific origination tachycardia site can be supposed according to QRS complex characteristics. This review aims to cover comprehensive and comparative description of the main VT diagnostic algorithms and to present ECG characteristics which permit to suggest the most common VT origination sites.

Medical images classification for skin cancer using quantitative image features with optical coherence tomography

Optical coherence tomography(OCT)is employed in the diagnosis of skin ***,quantitative image features extracted from OCT images might be used as indicators to classify the skin *** the present paper,we investigated intensity-based,texture-based and fractalbased features for automatically classifying the melanomas,basal cell carcinomas and pigment *** estimating equations were used to test for differences between the skin tumors.A modified p value ofnsidered statistically *** increase of mean and median of intensity and significant decrease of mean and median of absolute gradient were observed in basal cell carcinomas and pigment nevi as compared with *** decrease of contrast,entropy and fractal dimension was also observed in basal cell carcinomas and pigment nevi as compared with *** results suggest that the selected quantitative image features of OCT images could provide useful information to differentiate basal cell carcinomas and pigment nevi from the *** research is warranted to determine how this approach may be used to improve the classification of skin tumors.

Episodic events in long-term geological processes:A new classification and its applications

Long-term geological processes are usually described with curves reflecting continuous changes in the characteristic parameters through the geological history, and such curves can be employed directly for recognition of episodic(relatively long-term) events linked to these changes. The episodic events can be classified into several categories according to their scale(ordinary and anomalous events), "shape"(positive, negative, and neutral events), and relation to long-term trend change(successive, interruptive,facilitative, stabilizing, transformative, increasing, and decreasing). Many types of these events can be defined depending on the combination of the above-mentioned patterns. Of course, spatial rank,duration, and origin can be also considered in description of these events. The proposed classification can be applied to events in some real long-term geological processes, which include global sea-level changes,biodiversity dynamics, lithospheric plate number changes, and palaeoclimate changes. Several case examples prove the usefulness of the classification. It is established that the Early Valanginian(Early Cretaceous) eustatic lowstand(the lowest position of the sea level in the entire Cretaceous) was negative,but ordinary and only interruptive event. In the other case, it becomes clear that the only end-Ordovician and the Permian/Triassic mass extinctions transformed the trends of the biodiversity dynamics(from increase to decrease and from decrease to increase respectively), and the only Cretaceous/Paleogene mass extinction was really anomalous event on the Phanerozoic biodiversity curve. The new palaeontological data are employed to reconstruct the diversity dynamics of brachiopods in Germany(without the Alps) and the Swiss Jura Mountains. The further interpretation of the both diversity curves implies that the Early Toarcian mass extinction affected the regional brachiopod faunas strongly, but this event was only decreasing(biotic radiation continued after
