AIM: To compare adherence, response, and remission with light treatment in African-American and Caucasian patients with Seasonal Affective ***: Seventy-eight study participants, agerange 18-64(51 African-Americans and 27 Caucasians)recruited from the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area, with diagnoses of recurrent mood disorder with seasonal pattern, and confirmed by a Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Ⅳ, were enrolled in an open label study of daily bright light treatment. The trial lasted6 wk with flexible dosing of light starting with 10000 lux bright light for 60 min daily in the morning. At the end of six weeks there were 65 completers. Three patients had Bipolar Ⅱ disorder and the remainder had Major depressive disorder. Outcome measures were remission(score ≤ 8) and response(50% reduction)in symptoms on the Structured Interview Guide for the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(SIGH-SAD)as well as symptomatic improvement on SIGH-SAD and Beck Depression Inventory-Ⅱ. Adherence was measured using participant daily log. Participant groups were compared using t-tests, chi square, linear and logistic regressions. RESULTS: The study did not find any significant group difference between African-Americans and their Caucasian counterparts in adherence with light treatment as well as in symptomatic *** symptomatic improvement and rate of treatment response were not different between the two groups,African-Americans, after adjustment for age, gender and adherence, achieved a significantly lower remission rate(African-Americans 46.3%; Caucasians 75%; P =0.02).CONCLUSION: This is the first study of light treatment in African-Americans, continuing our previous work reporting a similar frequency but a lower awareness of SAD and its treatment in African-Americans. Adsorption in combination with ozonation for the treatment of textile waste water： a critical review

Intrusion of synthetic textile dyes in the ecosystem has been recognized as a serious issue worldwide. The effluents generated from textiles contain large amount of recalcitrant unfixed dyes which are regarded as emerging contaminants in the field of waste water study. Removal of various toxic dyes often includes diverse and complex set of physico-chemical, biological and advanced oxidation processes adopted for treatment. Adsorption in itself is a well-known technique utilized for treatment of textile effluents using a variety of adsorbents. In addition, ozonation deals with effective removal of dyes using high oxidising power of ozone. The review summarizes dye removal study by a combination of ozonation and adsorption methods. Also, to acquire an effective interpretation of this combined approach of treating wastewater, a thorough study has been made which is deliberated here. Results assert that, with the combined ability of ozone and a catalyst/adsorbent, there is high possibility of total elimination of dyes from waste water. Several synthetically prepared materials have been used along with few natural materials during the combined treatment. However, considering practical applicability, some areas were identified during the study where work needs to be done for effective implementation of the combined treatment.

Maternal complications and the utilisation of maternal health care services with special reference to West Bengal, India

The study aims to examine maternal complications in the eastern states of India. Further, an attempt is also made to understand the socioeconomic factors that determine the utilization of health care services during maternity in the state of West Bengal. The data used for the study are District Level Household Survey (DLHS) 2007-08, which reveals wide regional variations in maternal complications in India. But the state of West Bengal depicts a unique picture. It has the dubious distinction of achieving low fertility and mortality with high maternal complications. The utilisation of health care services in West Bengal was never near completion. Full utilisation of ANC which is essential for safe motherhood is just above national average. A large number of deliveries still take place out of the institution and are unsafe. Analysis reveals that higher age at motherhood increases the probability of utilising maternal health care services. Social groups, years of schooling, wealth index and place of residence also show significant relationship. The findings of the study provide an insight that efforts should be made to create awareness among socially and economically disadvantaged groups of the society about the benefits of utilisation of health care services. Further it also addresses the issue of creating awareness about MDG’s.

Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD)are the incurable chronic recurrent gastrointestinal disorders and currently lack in safe and effective *** this study,patchouli alcohol,a main active compound of traditional Chinese herb patchouli,was developed into biomimetic liposomes for macrophagetargeting delivery for IBD *** developed lactoferrin-modified liposomes(LF-lipo)can specifically bind to LRP-1 expressed on the activated colonic macrophages and achieve cell-targeting anti-inflammatory ***-lipo reduced the levels of inflammatory cytokines and ROS and suppressed the MAPK/NF-κB ***-lipo also suppressed the formation of NLRP3 inflammasome and the consequent IL-1β***-lipo showed improved therapeutic efficacy in a DSS-induced colitis murine model,evidenced by the reduced disease activity index,the improved colon functions,and the downregulated inflammatory cytokines in the ***-lipo provided an effective and safe macrophagetargeting delivery and therapeutic strategy for addressing the unmet medical need in IBD management.

Group Method Analysis of MHD Mixed Convective Flow Past on a Moving Curved Surface with Suction

The group-theorytic approach is applied for solving the problem of the unsteady MHD mixed convective flow past on a moving curved surface. The application of two-parameter groups reduces the number of independent variables by two, and consequently the system of governing partial differential equations with boundary conditions reduces to a system of ordinary differential equations with appropriate boundary conditions. The obtained ordinary differential equations are solved numerically using the shooting method. The effects of varying parameters governing the problem are studied. A comparison with previous work is presented.

目的:比较冷冻和外用水杨酸治疗非生殖器病毒性疣的治疗效果。方法:遵循系统评价首选报告项目(PRISMA)指南建议,开展了本荟萃分析的设计、实施和报告。本荟萃分析纳入了采用冷冻疗法和外用水杨酸疗法治疗非生殖器病毒疣的全部随机对照试验文献。文献获取采用Pub Med,Google-scholar,Embase和Cochrane数据库进行检索,检索日期截止至2021年10月,使用关键词包括:疣、皮肤疣、水杨酸、冷冻疗法和结局。纳入的文献均为RCT研究,排除了非RCT方法的研究和对复发疣的研究。首要终点是13周时所有疣体完全清除率。使用标准化的工具对数据进行提取,使用修订的Cochrane偏倚风险工具对质量进行评估。本文还搜索了所有试验的参考文献和选定的综述文章。使用Mantel-Haenszel方法、固定效应模型和随机效应模型对研究的具体效应大小进行汇总。I用于评估研究的异质性。结果:共获取617篇文章,其中477篇经题目和摘要审查后被排除。审查了其余140个项目的全文,剔除了133个不符合纳入标准的文献。最终共有7篇文章被纳入荟萃分析。在这7篇文章中有受试者1112人,随机分布在冷冻治疗组和水杨酸治疗组,其中417例患者接受冷冻治疗,478例患者接受SA治疗。在固定效应模型中,冷冻治疗与水杨酸治疗13周时疣体完全清除效应无统计学意义(固定效应模型:总体RR=1.10(0.97-1.26)。I异质性测量表明,纳入研究中的异质性较小(I=7%;95%置信区间:0%-73%)。讨论:本荟萃分析比较了冷冻疗法和外用水杨酸疗法在治疗非生殖器病毒疣方面的疗效差异。在冷冻疗法或外用水杨酸治疗后的13周内,疣的有效清除率没有显著差异。这项荟萃分析指出,需要更多高质量的证据来评估这些治疗方法,以便提出进一步的建议。本研究荟萃分析了7个针对寻常疣、跖疣的随机双盲对照研究,计纳入1112个病例资料,该分析明晰了二种常用治疗皮肤疣方法具有相似的疗效,为临床治疗方案选择提供了循证依据。结论:冷冻疗法和外用水杨酸疗法,治疗非生殖器病毒疣的疗效相当。需要进一步的研究来评估这些疗法。

Managing patients with heart failure （HF） is a challenging task within itself, but the presence of associated worsening renal function can greatly increase mortality and morbidity. Early diagnosis and treatment is the key to prevent re-hospitalizations and reduce healthcare costs. Biomarkers have long been established as highly sensitive and specific tools in diagnosing and prognosticating patients with HF. Reflecting distinct pathophysiological events and ongoing cellular insult, biomarkers have been proven superior to conventional laboratory tests. Availability of better assays and rapid analysis has allowed the use of biomarkers as point-of-care tests in the emergency department and at the patient＇s bed-side. Acute HF patients often go on to develop worsening renal function, termed as acute cardiorenal syndrome. The growing breadth of studies has shown the implications of combining multiple biomarkers to better chart outcomes and produce desirable results in such patients.

Achieving energy efficiency in government buildings through mandatory policy and program enforcement

Government buildings are responsible for a significant proportion of energy consumption worldwide,for example, in Australia, up to 41.5 PJ energy was consumed by government buildings in 2011–2012. While the newly constructed buildings may be energy efficient,the existing buildings, which account for more than 85% of the total building stock, were built prior to the time when energy rating systems was put in practice and are consequently energy inefficient to a large degree. Reducing the energy consumption in existing government buildings is essential, as it will not only reduce the costs and environmental impacts, but also show governments' strong commitment towards the reduction of greenhouse gas emission. Furthermore, successful building energy retrofit projects are the showcases to the general public, encouraging other sectors(e.g. commercial) to conduct building retrofits for energy savings. Recognising these benefits,several state governments in Australia have introduced building energy efficiency policies and programs. This paper reviewed the energy efficiency policies/programs in five States in Australia: Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, and Queensland in terms of respective policies and targets, implementation methods and current progress. The lessons learned from these programs were also discussed. This research revealed that the key factors for a successful government buildingenergy retrofitting program are 1) having a properly enforced energy efficiency mandate with clear energy saving targets, 2) establishing an expert facilitation team and 3) implementing suitable financing and procurement methods.

Electrolyzed Oxidized Water (EOW): Non-Thermal Approach for Decontamination of Food Borne Microorganisms in Food Industry

Electrolyzed Oxidized Water (EOW) is produced by passing a diluted salt solution through an electrolytic cell, having anode and cathode electrodes. The anode and cathode are separated by a bipolar membrane. Negatively charged ions—chloride and hydroxide in the diluted salt solution move to anode to give up electrons and become gas (O2, Cl2) and hypochlorous acid and having redox potential of +700 to +800 mV with pH 4.0. It has a strong oxidation potential and a shortage of electrons giving it the ability to oxidize and sterilize. In microbial inactivation process, oxidized water damage cell membranes, create disruption in cell metabolic processes and essentially kill the cell. EOW, also a strong acid, is different to hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid in that it is not corrosive to skin, mucous membrane, or organic material. It is easy to handle and suitable for the sanitation of the plant and decontamination of foods. Electrolyzed water has been tested and used as a disinfectant in the food industry and other applications.
