Children are becoming increasingly vulnerable to contagious disease around the world. It also leads to chronic health problems. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the prevalence of contagious diseases in children of 5 - 12 years from five government primary schools (class II to V) in Tangail City, Bangladesh using multistage sampling method. Data were collected using a carry home questionnaire and diseases screening examination was done in the school. Prevalence of common contagious diseases was calculated. A total of 84 students were screened to have contagious diseases by clinical examination, giving a prevalence rate of 8.76% from 958 participated school children. The prevalence of contagious disease among the affected children in the study was found 30.95% for scabies, while 20.24% for influenza and 7.14%, 9.52%, 15.48%, 5.95%, & 10.71% for typhoid, chicken pox, measles, pneumonia, and whooping cough, respectively. Anthropometric measurements were recorded which indicated that 48.8% of children were well-nourished and 21.4%, 17.9%, & 11.9% of children were underweight, stunted, and wasted, respectively. However, these data are extremely important to define the problem and to design proper intervention strategies.

Hydrodynamic viscous incompressible fluid flow through a porous medium between two disks rotating with same angular velocity about two non-coincident axes has been studied. An exact solution of the govern-ing equations has been obtained in a closed form. It is found that the primary velocity decreases and the sec-ondary velocity increases with increase in porosity parameter to the left of the z-axis and the result is re-versed to the right of the z-axis. It is also found that the torque on the disks increases with increase in either rotation parameter or porosity parameter. For large rotation, there exist a thin boundary layer near the disks and the thickness of this boundary layer decreases with increase in porosity parameter.

The unsteady MHD Couette flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting fluid between two infinite non- conducting horizontal porous plates under the boundary layer approximations has been studied with the consideration of both Hall currents and ion-slip. An analytical solution of the governing equations describing the flow is obtained by the Laplace transform method. It is seen that the primary velocity decreases while the magnitude of secondary velocity increases with increase in Hall parameter. It is also seen that both the primary velocity and the magnitude of secondary velocity decrease with increase in ion-slip parameter. It is observed that a thin boundary layer is formed near the stationary plate for large values of squared Hartmann number and Reynolds number. The thickness of this boundary layer increases with increase in either Hall parameter or ion-slip parameter.

Populations of culturable microbes and activities of dehydrogenase & ?-D glucosidase were found maximum in surface soil and decreased with increase in depth in Sundarban mangrove *** maximum (13.529 X 106 C.F.U g-1 dry weight of soil) and minimum (11.547 X 106 C.F.U g-1 dry weight of soil) total microbial popu- lations in surface soil were recorded during po- st-monsoon and monsoon respectively. At 60 cm depth, the lower (6.396 X 106 C.F.U g-1 dry weight of soil) and higher (8.003 X 106 C.F.U g-1 dry weight of soil) numbers of total microbial populations were observed during monsoon and post-monsoon respectively. A decreasing trend of total microbial load, enzyme activities and nutrient status with organic carbon were found with increase in depth throughout the year. Present study revealed the relationship among depth integrated variations of physico-chemical compo- nents (viz. soil temperature, pH, moisture, orga- nic-C, .nitrogen, and available-P) and microbial populations as well as activity of dehydrogenase and ?-D glucosidase enzymes.

The combined influences of Hall currents and rotation on the MHD Couette flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid between two infinite horizontal parallel porous plates channel in a rotating system in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field have been carried out. The solutions for the velocity field as well as shear stresses have been obtained for small time as well as for large times by Laplace transform technique. It is found that for large times the Hall currents accelerates primary flow whereas it retards secondary flow while the rotation retards the primary flow whereas it accelerates the secondary flow. It is also found that the velocity components converge more rapidly for small time solution than the general solution. The asymptotic behavior of the solution is analyzed for small as well as large values of magnetic parameter M2, rotation parameter K2 and Reynolds number Re. It is observed that a thin boundary layer is formed near the moving plate of the channel and the thicknesses of the layer increases with increase in either Hall parameter m or Reynolds number Re while it decreases with increase in Hartmann number M. It is interesting to note that for large values of M2 , the boundary layer thickness is independent of the rotation parameter.

Mangrove provides a unique ecological niche to different microbes which play various roles in nutrient recycling as well as various environmental activities. The highly productive and diverse microbial community living in mangrove ecosystems continuously transforms dead vegetation and recycle nitrogen, phosphorus, sulphur and other nutrients that can later be used by the plants. Mangrove ecosystems are rich in organic matter, and however, in general, they are nutrient-deficient ecosystems, especially of nitrogen and phosphorus. The present study investigated depth wise variation of Nitrifying bacteria, Nitrogen fixing bacteria, total bacterial population along with nitrate-nitrogen, nitrite-nitrogen and other physicochemical parameters of soil during pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon periods at three different sampling stations of mangrove sediments viz. deep forest region, rooted region and unrooted region. The microbial population was also found maximum in the deep forest sediment relative to the other two sites. Populations of cultureable microbes were found maximum in surface soil and decreased with increase in depth in Sundarban mangrove environment. A decreasing trend of total microbial load, nitrifying and nitrogen fixing bacteria with increase in depth were recorded throughout the year. Present study revealed the relationship among depth integrated variations of physicochemical components (viz. soil temperature, pH, salinity, nitrite nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen concentration) and total microbial load, nitrifying and nitrogen fixing bacteria microbial populations.
