Secondary forests and human-made forest gaps are conspicuous features of tropical ***,behavioral responses to these aspects of anthropogenically modified forests remain poorly ***,we analyze the effects of small human-made clearings and secondary forests on tropical bats by examining the guild-and species-level activity patterns of phyllostomids sampled in the Central Amazon,***,we contrast the temporal activity patterns and degree of temporal overlap of 6 frugivorous and 4 gleaning animalivorous species in old-growth forest and second-growth forest and of 4 frugivores in old-growth forest and forest *** activity patterns of frugivores and gleaning animalivores did not change between old-growth forest and second-growth,nor did the activity patterns of frugivores between old-growth forest and ***,at the species level,we detected significant differences for Artibeus obscurus(old-growth forest ***-growth)and ***(old-growth forest ***).The degree of temporal overlap was greater than random in all sampled ***,for frugivorous species,the degree of temporal overlap was similar between old-growth forest and second-growth;whereas for gleaning animalivores,it was lower in second-growth than in old-growth *** the contrary,forest clearings were characterized by increased temporal overlap between *** in activity patterns and temporal overlap may result from differential foraging opportunities and dissimilar predation ***,our analyses suggest that activity patterns of bats in second-growth and small forest clearings,2 of the most prominent habitats in humanized tropical landscapes,varies little from the activity patterns in old-growth forest.

Defensive pressure affects basketball technical actions but not the time-motion variables

Background: Novel player tracking technologies can change the understanding of performance determinants in team sports by allowing to accurately measuring the activity demands. The aim of this study was to identify how the defensive pressure affects the time-motion variables and the technical actions in ***: Twenty international male players(age: 16.05 ± 2.09 years, weight: 73.13 ± 8.10 kg, height: 183.10 ± 5.88 cm) played two 10 min basketball quarters, where they used a man-to-man 1/4-court defense until the 4th min(F1/4), changed to man-to-man full court(FULL) for 3 min and, from the 7th to the 10 th min returned to 1/4-court defense(S1/4). A computerized notational analysis was performed using Simi Scout and positional data were captured with the Ubisense Real Time Location System(mean sampling rate 3.74 ± 0.45 Hz per transmitter/player).Results: The time-motion variables presented similar results between defensive conditions, showing a total distance covered around 90 m/***, results suggested possible vertical jump impairments in S1/4 periods. There was more distance covered while jogging in the offensive court(38.15 ± 12.17 m/min offensive court vs. 32.94 ± 10.84 m/min defensive court, p more distance covered while running in the defensive court(16.41 ± 10.27 m/min offensive court vs. 19.56 ± 10.29 m/min defensive court, p onclusion: These results suggest how to improve task representativeness during specific conditioning or game-based training situations and also to help coaches' strategic decisions during the games.

Tuberculosis Presenting as multiple Vein Thrombosis in a Hospitalized man

Tuberculosis (TB) remains an infectious disease with a high prevalence worldwide and represents a major public health issue. Although venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a rare complication of this disease, it may be a potentially life-threatening event. A 58-year-old man was admitted due to hematemesis due to inflammation at the anastomosis site after a gastrectomy years ago. After 3 days in-hospital, he showed a peroneal deep vein thrombosis and superficial thrombosis of left cephalic vein. Although reduced mobility and lack of prophylactic heparin could explain vein thrombosis, a simple etiologic workup was performed and active tuberculosis was diagnosed. This case illustrates a rare and unusual presentation form of tuberculosis, a condition that remains now-a-days one of the leading infectious causes of death worldwide. The association between tuberculosis and VTE is rare, but it should be systematically investigated.

Problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating fuel cell conditions require the identification of alternative supports for platinum-based nanosized *** supported on manganese vanadate(Pt/mnV_(2)o_(6))was prepared by microwave irradiation method and characterized using X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BoR)on Pt/mnV_(2)o_(6) was studied in highly alkaline media using voltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activity of Pt/mnV_(2)o_(6) was also compared with that of commercial Pt/C(46 wt%Pt)*** apparent activation energy of BoR at Pt/mnV_(2)o_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of reaction to be 0.51,indicating that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of Pt/mnV_(2)o_(6) under BoR typical conditions was observed.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride fuel cell assembled with a Pt/mnV_(2)o_(6) anode reached a specific power of 274 W g^(-1).Experimental results on Pt/mnV_(2)o_(6) were complemented by DFT calculations,which indicated good adherence of Pt to mnV_(2)o_(6),beneficial for electrocatalyst stability.

Colorectal cancer represents the third most diagnosed malignancy in the *** liver is the main site of metastatic disease,affected in 30%of patients with newly diagnosed *** resection is considered the only potentially curative treatment for colorectal liver metastasis(CRLm),with a 5-year survival rate ranging from 35%to 58%.However,up to 80%of patients have initially unresectable disease,due to extrahepatic disease or bilobar multiple liver *** availability of increasingly effective systemic chemotherapy has contributed to converting patients with initially unresectable liver metastases to resectable disease,improving long-term outcomes,and accessing tumor *** recent years,response to preoperative systemic chemotherapy before liver resection has been established as a major prognostic *** studies have demonstrated that patients with regression of hepatic metastases while on chemotherapy have improved outcomes when compared to patients with stabilization or progression of the *** if disease progression during chemotherapy represents an independent negative prognostic factor,some patients may still benefit from surgery,given the role of this modality as the main treatment with curative intent for patients with *** selected cases,based on size,the number of lesions,and tumor markers,surgery may be offered despite the less favorable prognosis and as an option for non-chemo responders.

Crop-livestock farms across Africa are highly variable due to in agroecological and socioeconomic factors,the latter shaping the demand and supply of livestock ***-livestock farms in Africa in the 20-first century are very different from most mixed farms elsewhere in the *** crop-livestock farms are smaller in size,have fewer livestock,lower productivity and less dependency on imported feed than farms in most countries of Europe,the Americas and the intensive agricultural systems of *** paper discusses the role African crop-livestock farms have in the broader socio-agricultural economy,and how these are likely to change adapting to pressures brought on by the intensification of food *** intensification implies increasing land productivity(more food per hectare),often leading to more livestock heads per farm,producing fertilized feeds in croplands and importing feed supplements from the *** discussion includes(1)the links between crop yields,soil fertility and crop-livestock integration,(2)the increasing demand for livestock products and the land resources required to meet to this demand,and(3)the opportunities to integrate broader societal goals into the development of crop-livestock *** is ample room for development of crop-livestock farms in Africa,and keeping integration as part of the development will help prevent many of the mistakes and environmental problems related to the intensification of livestock production observed elsewhere in the *** development can integrate biodiversity,climate change adaptation and mitigation to the current goals of increasing productivity and food *** inclusion of broader goals could help farmers access the level of finance required to implement changes.

Electrical Homo-Junction Delineation Techniques: A Comparative Study

In active semiconductor devices, the junction characteristics are critical for the electrical performance. As an alternative of the atomic force microscopy (AFm)-based electrical techniques which provide unique junction characterization, other methods are dedicated for the delineation of the electrical junction such as the wet chemical etching, the electrochemical plating method, the Seebeck effect imaging (SEI) method, the electron-beam induced current (EBIC) technique and the secondary electron potential contrast (SEPC) method. The aim of this paper is in the one hand to compare these five techniques in term of sample preparation, spatial application range, spatial resolution, simplicity and information displayed. In the other hand, this review aims to provide some guidelines for the appropriate delineation method(s) selection. It was confirmed that chemical based techniques are the simplest junction delineation methods but exhibit some drawbacks in term of spatial resolution and reproducibility. Despite of a limited spatial resolution, it was evidenced that EBIC can provide accurate electrical characterization of the junction. Finally, it was demonstrated that SEPC is the most promising technique providing the higher spatial resolution. The effect of the sample preparation method has been described. Even if the comparison was mainly based on homo-micro-Silicon junctions (n-p and n-p-n-p), the results were also discussed for short SiC junctions. The importance of the analysis context was considered in this paper and analysis flow was suggested for specific analysis cases.

Autoregressive spatial analysis and individual tree modeling as strategies for the management of Eremanthus erythropappus

The objectives of this study were to apply statistical techniques to discriminate fertilization treatments of Eremanthus erythropappus（DC.） mac *** autoregressive modeling, and to develop individual tree models for diameter and crown area（CA） projection to define management strategies for candeia plantations subjected to different fertilization treatments. This is an important tree species originating from the Brazilian Atlantic Rain forest and Savannah biomes, intensively used in the cosmetic industry. Nonetheless, to date, research has not addressed the management of natural stands or plantations of the species. our experiment was located in Baependi, minas Gerais, Brazil, and comprised of four randomized blocks and 13 treatments. The treatments consisted of 12 different regimes of fertilization plus a control. Each sample plot was composed of 50 plants plus two border plants in a planting spacing of 2.5 9 2.0 m and undergoing pruning at 5 and 6 years of age. Starting in the second year, total tree height（H） and circumference（at 1.30 m from the ground or breast height, CBH） were measured every 6 months. Starting in the fifth year CA was measured. Tree growth varied by fertilization *** were detected by using an autoregressive approach, considering that standard statistical methods were not powerful enough to detect significant *** growth groups were formed, and maximum growth was obtained for treatment 10（NPK, 8-28-16）. management guidelines are provided based on individual tree models for different fertilization levels.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided vs endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography biliary drainage for obstructed distal malignant biliary strictures: A systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGRoUND For palliation of malignant biliary obstruction(mBo), the gold-standard method of biliary drainage is endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)with the placement of metallic stents. Endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)-guided drainage is an alternative that is typically reserved for cases of ERCP ***, however, there have been robust randomized clinical trials(RCTs)comparing EUS-guided drainage and ERCP as primary approaches to *** To compare EUS guidance and ERCP in terms of their effectiveness and safety in palliative biliary drainage for *** This was a systematic review and meta-analysis, in which we searched the mEDLINE, Excerpta medica, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases. only RCTs comparing EUS and ERCP for primary drainage of mBo were eligible. All of the studies selected provided data regarding the rates of technical and clinical success, as well as the duration of the procedure, adverse events, and stent patency. We assessed the risk of biases using the Jadad score and the quality of evidence using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development and Evaluation *** The database searches yielded 5920 records, from which we selected 3 RCTs involving a total of 222 patients(112 submitted to EUS and 110 submitted to ERCP). In the EUS and ERCP groups, the rate of technical success was 91.96%n and 91.81%, respectively, with a risk difference(RD) of 0.00%(95%CI:-0.07, 0.07;P = 0.97; I^2 = 0%). The clinical success was 84.81% and 85.53% in the EUS and ERCP groups, respectively, with an RD of-0.01%(95%CI:-0.12, 0.10; P = 0.90; I^2 =0%). The mean difference(mD) for the duration of the procedure was-0.12%(95%CI:-8.20, 7.97; P = 0.98; I^2 = 84%). In the EUS and ERCP groups, there were14 and 25 adverse events, respectively, with an RD of-0.06%(95%CI:-0.23, 0.12; P= 0.54; I^2 = 77%).
