Growth,optical dispersion and magnetic behavior of Dy^(3+) doped yttrium iron garnet crystals

Y_(3)Fe_(5)O_(12)(YIG)crystals are highly desirable for the fabrication of mid-infrared isolators with the rapid growth of optical communications,although it is rather challenging to grow large size and high-quality single crystals.Dy^(3+)doping is expected to improve the optical and magneto-optical prope rties.However,high quality Dy:YIG crystals and the adjustment of Dy^(3+)on the structure and optical behavior of YIG crystal remain unclear,impeding its practical applications.Herein,a series of Y_(3-x)Dy_(x)Fe_(5)O_(12)(x=0,0.5,1.0,1.5,3)solid solution crystals was grown by the flux-Bridgman method and single crystals up to 25 mm were obtained.With the introduction of Dy^(3+),lattice parameters are gradually enlarged from 1.2379 nm(YIG)to 1.2420 nm(DyIG).Typical Dy^(3+)absorption peaks are observed around 1070,1265 and 1670 nm.The refractive index decreases from 2.37(500 nm)to 2.10(2500 nm)for YIG crystal,and it reduces from 2.47(500 nm)to 2.16(2500 nm)for DyIG crystal.The optical bandgaps remain almost unchanged for Dy:YIG crystals.The optical dispersion of the refractive indices was finely fitted by the Wemple and DiDomenico(WDD)and the Sellmeier models,respectively.With the increase of Dy^(3+)content,the saturation magnetization(Ms)decreases significantly from 23.62 emu/g(YIG)to 5.33 emu/g(DyIG).Small coercive field is persisted for this system,endowing small external magnetic field.These results provide valuable references for the manipulation of rare earths on the properties of magnetooptical crystals,which is beneficial to the design of high-performance garnet crystals for the application of optical switching and non-reciprocal related devices.

Dynamic Response of A Group of Cylindrical Storage Tanks with Baffles Considering the Effect of Soil Foundation

The sloshing in a group of rigid cylindrical tanks with baffles and on soil foundation under horizontal excitation is studied analytically.The solutions for the velocity potential are derived out by the liquid subdomain method.Equivalent models with mass-spring oscillators are established to replace continuous fluid.Combined with the least square technique,Chebyshev polynomials are employed to fit horizontal,rocking and horizontal-rocking coupling impedances of soil,respectively.A lumped parameter model for impedance is presented to describe the effects of soil on tank structures.A mechanical model for the soil-foundation-tank-liquid-baffle system with small amount of calculation and high accuracy is proposed using the substructure technique.The analytical solutions are in comparison with data from reported literature and numerical codes to validate the effectiveness and correctness of the model.Detailed dynamic properties and seismic responses of the soil-tank system are given for the baffle number,size and location as well as soil parameter.

Remote sensing of air pollution incorporating integrated-path differential-absorption and coherent-Doppler lidar

An innovative complex lidar system deployed on an airborne rotorcraft platform for remote sensing of atmospheric pollution is proposed and demonstrated.The system incorporates integrated-path differential absorption lidar(DIAL) and coherent-doppler lidar(CDL) techniques using a dual tunable TEA CO_(2)laser in the 9—11 μm band and a 1.55 μm fiber laser.By combining the principles of differential absorption detection and pulsed coherent detection,the system enables agile and remote sensing of atmospheric pollution.Extensive static tests validate the system’s real-time detection capabilities,including the measurement of concentration-path-length product(CL),front distance,and path wind speed of air pollution plumes over long distances exceeding 4 km.Flight experiments is conducted with the helicopter.Scanning of the pollutant concentration and the wind field is carried out in an approximately 1 km slant range over scanning angle ranges from 45°to 65°,with a radial resolution of 30 m and10 s.The test results demonstrate the system’s ability to spatially map atmospheric pollution plumes and predict their motion and dispersion patterns,thereby ensuring the protection of public safety.

Nonlinear semi-analytical modeling of liquid sloshing in rectangular container with horizontal baffles

A nonlinear semi-analytical scheme is proposed for investigating the finiteamplitude nonlinear sloshing in a horizontally baffled rectangular liquid container under the seismic excitation.The sub-domain method is developed to analytically derive the modal behaviors of the baffled linear sloshing.The viscosity dissipation effects from the interior liquid and boundary layers are considered.With the introduction of the generalized time-dependent coordinates,the surface wave elevation and velocity potential are represented by a series of linear modal eigenfunctions.The infinite-dimensional modal system of the nonlinear sloshing is formulated based on the Bateman-Luke variational principle,which is further reduced to the finite-dimensional modal system by using the NarimanovMoiseev asymptotic ordering.The base force and overturning moment induced by the nonlinear sloshing are derived as the functions of the generalized time-dependent coordinates.The present results match well with the available analytical,numerical,and experimental results.The paper examines the surface wave elevation,base force,and overturning moment versus the baffle parameters and excitation amplitude in detail.

基于2016—2021年27个省级行政区的面板数据,采用固定效应回归模型、门槛模型、空间滞后模型及量化分析方法,考察数字政府建设促进共同富裕度的线性关系、门槛效应、空间溢出效应,结果发现:数字政府建设可以促进省级共同富裕度且具有区域异质性;城乡基本公共服务均等化对数字政府建设促进省级共同富裕度具有显著的非线性门槛关系,当城乡基本公共服务均等化水平达到门槛值后,其对数字政府建设促进省级共同富裕度才具有正向影响;数字政府建设促进共同富裕度具有显著的空间溢出效应,能显著提升相邻省份的共同富裕度。数字政府建设除了促进经济发展提高共同富裕度外,更重要的是实现社会公正和发展共享的关键作用;城乡基本公共服务均等化水平制约着数字政府建设和省级共同富裕度的成效发挥;要善于使用数字政府建设促进共同富裕的空间溢出效应,同相邻省份共同实现区域数字政府建设水平提升,一同实现共同富裕。

Sonochemical Synthesis of Graphene Oxide-Wrapped Gold Nanoparticles Hybrid Materials:Visible Light Photocatalytic Activity

Graphene oxide(GO)-wrapped gold nanoparticles(Au NPs)hybrid materials are constructed via one-pot sono-chemical synthesis and self-assembly,using ethylene glycol as the reducing agent.The synthesis process above took only 1 h,and the obtained hybrid materials exist as spheres wrapped with gauze-like GO sheets via ionic in-teraction-based self-assembly.The GO sheets are helpful for the well dispersion of the Au NPs.Furthermore,these materials possess enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation,owing to the synergistic effect of the two components in the hybrid materials.Our work may provide a convenient approach to control the size and morphology of the Au NPs for the synthesis of GO-wrapped hybrid materials,which opens up a feasible way to synthesize metal NPs/GO composites.Moreover,this method might lead to developing of a broad class of new functionalized materials wrapped with GO sheets.

To the Editor:Angiosarcoma(AS)is a rare and highly malignant mesenchymal tumor that accounts for 2%of adult soft tissue sarcomas.The prognosis of AS is poor due to the high rate of metastasis and reoccurrence.According to a retrospective study by Lahat et al and Fayette et al,[1,2]31 of 121(19%)patients had metastases upon initial diagnosis,and 90(74%)had relapse and progression.The median survival of AS was 3.4 years,declining to 10 months in patients with metastasis.To attempt to improve AS treatment outcomes,a multimodality approach is advocated,including surgical resection combined with radiation,chemotherapy,immunotherapy,and/or anti-angiogenetic therapy.Herein,we present a man who previously underwent resection of a mesorectal-derived intermediate hemangioendothelioma(HAE)and developed pulmonary metastasis of AS within a year.The history is remarkable because of(1)the rare primary location:only 2 cases were mesenteric-related;(2)the uncharacteristic clinical course:the primary diagnosis of intermediate hemangioendothelioma later progressed to pulmonary metastatic AS;and(3)a successful series of multidisciplinary therapeutic procedures,especially selective arterial infusion(SAI)chemotherapy before metastases resection.

3-D Thermo-Stress Field in Laminated Cylindrical Shells

The temperature and the stress distribution in simply-supported laminated cylindrical shells undergo thermal loads on the surface have been investigated.Exact solutions of physical quantities including temperature,heat flux,thermal displacement and stress are developed for the cylindrical laminated shell.Cylindrical shells are partitioned into more thin layers.In cylindrical coordinate,analytical expressions for physical quantities inside each layer are derived.Taking into account the compatibility of physical quantities at the interfaces,the relations between the outer and the inner layer of the laminated shell can be described with a transfer matrix.The undetermined parameters from the solutions of each layer can be obtained with boundary conditions.The convergence of the solutions to the number of Fourier series terms has been checked.The accuracy and feasibility of the present method is verified by comparing theoretical results with numerical outcomes due to Finite Element Method(FEM).Finally,the influences of surface temperature,geometrical size and material properties with respects to temperature,thermal stresses and displacement of layered cylindrical shell are worked out in details in a parameter study.

Electrochromism refers to the persistent and reversible change of optical properties by an applied voltage pulse.Electrochromic(EC)devices have been extensively studied because of their commercial applications in smart windows of green buildings,display devices and thermal control of equipments.In this review,a basic EC device design is presented based on useful oxides and solid-state electrolytes.We focus on the state-of-the-art research activities related to the structures of tungsten oxide(WO_3)and nickel oxide(NiO),summarizing the strategies to improve their EC performances and further applications of devices.

Stresses of orthotropic laminated beams subjected to high temperature and mechanical load

Thermo-elastic analysis of simply-supported orthotropic laminated beams subjected to high temperature and mechanical load is presented on the basis of the exact two-dimensional thermoelasticity theory.The beam is composed of several orthotropic layers,each with temperaturedependent material properties.The governing equation for each layer is analytically solved using the state space method.The displacement and stress solutions of the beam are obtained using the transfer-matrix method.A numerical example is included to study the effects of temperature on the mechanical responses of a sandwich beam.The results reveal two main effects of temperature:(i)inducing deformations and stresses by itself;(ii)affecting the deformations and stresses induced by the mechanical load.
