An effective interionic potential calculation with long range Coulomb, charge transfer interaction, covalency effect, short range overlap repulsion extended, van der Waals interaction, and zero point energy effect is implemented to i.vestigate the pressure dependent structural phase transition (ZnS-type (B3) to NaCl-type (B1) structure), and mechanical, elastic, and thermodynamic properties of silicon carbide (SiC). Both charge transfer interaction and covalency effect are important in revealing the pressure induced structural stability, Cauchy discrepancy, anisotropy factor, melting temperature, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, and Grüneisen parameter. We also present the results for the temperature dependent behaviors of normalized volume, hardness, heat capacity, and thermal expansion coefficient. SiC is mechanically stiffened and thermally softened as inferred from pressure (temperature) dependent elastic constant’s behavior. The Pugh’s ratio ∅ = B T / G H, the Poisson’s ratio v, and the Cauchy’s pressure C 12–C 44 for SiC ceramic confirm its brittle nature.

Psychiatric disorders arc highly heritable, and in many individuals likely arise from the combined effects of genes and the environment. A substantial body of evidence points toward D1SCi being one of the genes that influence risk of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression, and functional studies of DiSC1 consequently have the potential to reveal much about the pathways that lead to major mental illness. Here, we review the evidence that DiSC1 influences disease risk through effects upon multiple critical pathways in the developing and adult brain.

A Novel Packet Switch Node Architecture for Contention Resolution in Synchronous Optical Packet Switched Networks

Packet contention is a key issue in optical packet switch (OPS) networks and finds a viable solution by including optical buffering techniques incorporating fiber delay lines (FDLs) in the switch architecture. The present paper proposes a novel switch architecture for packet contention resolution in synchronous OPS network employing the packet circulation in FDLs in a synchronized manner. A mathematical model for the proposed switch architecture is developed employing packet queuing control to estimate the blocking probability for the incoming traffic. The switch performance is analyzed with a suitable contention resolution al-gorithm through the computer simulation. The simulation results substantiate the proposed model for the switch architecture.

Characterization of Dispersive Soils

Dispersive soils which occur in many parts of the world are easily erodible and segregate in water pose serious problems of stability of earth and earth retaining structures. The mechanism of dispersivity of soils is reasonably well understood. However there is simple method to identify the dispersivity of the soils and even more difficult to quantify the dispersivity. visual classification, Atterberg’s limits and particle size analysis do not provide sufficient basis to differentiate between dispersive clays and ordinary erosion resistant clays. Pinhole test and double hydrometer test are the only two tests that are in vogue to identify the dispersive soils. This paper explores the possibility of using other standard tests such as shrinkage limit and unconfined compressive strength tests to quantify the dispersivity of the soils. The rationale of using the methods and correlation between the dispersivity determined by various methods has been explained. it has been concluded that dispersivity ascertained from strength tests is more reliable.

A systematic study has been made on the behavior of Al/n-CdS thin film junction on flexible polymer substrate(polyethylene terephthalate, PET)grown using thermal evaporation method. Temperature dependence of Ⅰ-Ⅴ measurements for this junction has been done which closely follow the equations of Schottky barrier junction dominated by thermionic emission mechanism. intrinsic and contact properties such as barrier height, ideality factor and series resistance have been calculated from Ⅰ-Ⅴ characteristics. The barrier height of Al/n-CdS junction is found to increase with increase in temperature whereas ideality factor and series resistance decrease with increase in temperature.

A highly selective and sensitive liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry （LC-MS/MS） assay has been described for the determination of asenapine （ASE） in presence of its inactive metabolites N-desmethyl asenapine （DMA） and asenapine-N-glucuronide （ASG）. ASE, and ASE 13C-d3, used as internal standard （iS）, were extracted from 300 μL human plasma by a simple and precise liquid-liquid extraction procedure using methyl tert-butyl ether. Baseline separation of ASE from its inactive metabolites was achi.ved on Chromolith Performance RPse （100 mm ×4.6 mm） column using acetonitrile- 5.0 mM ammonium acetate-10% formic acid （90：10：0.1, v/v/v） within 4.5 min. Quantitation of ASE was done on a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer equipped with electrospray ionization in the positive mode. The protonated precursor to product ion transitions monitored for ASE and ASE 13C-d3 were m/z 286.1 → 166.0 and m/z 290.0 → 166.1, respectively. The limit of detection （LOD） and limit of quantitation （LOQ） of the method were 0.0025 ng/mL and 0.050 ng/mL respectively in a linear concentration range of 0.050-20.0 ng/mL for ASE. The intra-batch and inter-batch precision （% Cv） and mean relative recovery across quality control levels were 〈 5.8% and 87.3%, respectively. Matrix effect, evaluated as iS-normalized matrix factor, ranged from 1.03 to 1.05. The stability of ASE under different storage conditions was ascertained in presence of the metabolites. The developed method is much simpler, matrix free, rapid and economical compared to the existing methods. The method was suc- cessfully used for a bioequivalence study of asenapine in healthy indian subjects for the first time.

A study was conducted to evaluate the genotoxicity, if any, of the permitted synthetic food colorants used in india. Eight synthetic food colorants namely Erythrosine （E 127）, Tartrazine （E 102）, Ponceau 4R （E 124）, Sunset Yellow FCF （E 110）, Brilliant Blue FCF （E133）, Fast Green FCF （E143）, Carmoisine （E122） and indigo Carmine （E132） and their combination are used in sweets namely Ladu, Jilebi and Halwa in Calicut and suburban areas of Kerala, in india. The genotoxicity of the colorants alone and in combinations at different concentrations were evaluated by Cytokinesis Block Micronucleus （CBMN） Assay. it was observed that all the above colorants and their combinations could cause genotoxicity to human lymphocytes even at the permissible concentration of 100 ppm as per PFA （Prevention of Food Adulteration） Act of india. The toxicity varied from dye to dye and was proportional to their concentration. Combination of colors showed more toxicity than the individual components. Toxicity could be reduced drastically by reducing the concentration of the dyes at least 50% below the permissible limit. Permitted synthetic food colorants even at the permissible limit should be used with caution. This study demonstrated the need for redefining the permissible limit of the food colorants based on Admissible Daily intake （ADi） as being practiced in developed countries.
