Objective The effect of oral cadmium(Cd)intake to influence contact skin allergies was examined,since it is known that Cd is a heavy metal that affects many tissues,including the skin,in which it disturbs homeostasis,thus resulting in inflammation and *** Male rats were evoked with experimental contact hypersensitivity reaction(CHS)to hapten dinitrochlorobenzene(DNCB),after prolonged(30 day)oral exposure to an environmentally relevant Cd dose(5 ppm).The ear cell population was analyzed with flow *** production by ear skin cells and the activity of skin-draining lymph node(DLN)cells were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Results Orally acquired Cd(5 ppm)increased CHS intensity only in Dark Agouti(DA)rats by affecting inflammatory responses in both the sensitization(an increase of IFN-γ and IL-17 cytokine production)and challenge(an increase of CD8^(+)and CD4^(+)cell number and TNF,IFN-γ and IL-17 cytokine production)*** increased CHS reaction was seen in Albino Oxford(AO)rats only at a high Cd dose(50 ppm),during the challenge phase(an increase of CD8^(+)and CD4^(+)cell number and TNF,IFN-γ and IL-17 cytokine production).Conclusion These novel data indicate that oral Cd intensifies the skin response to sensitizing chemicals such as DNCB.

Intraluminal stenting versus external ligation of Ahmed glaucoma valve in prevention of postoperative hypotony

AIM:To compare intraluminal stenting and external ligation of Ahmed glaucoma valves(AGV)for refractory glaucoma management and postoperative hypotony ***:This randomized prospective blind study included 30 eyes of 25 patients(age range:44-56y)with refractory *** study was conducted from September 2018 to January *** study included two groups,AGV with intraluminal stenting group(n=15 eyes)and AGV with external ligation group(n=15 eyes).Follow-up period was one year *** primary outcome was intraocular pressure(IOP)and its association with the number of postoperative glaucoma ***≤21 mm Hg without medications indicated complete success while IOP≤21 mm Hg with medications indicated qualified success;and IOP<6 mm Hg was defined as ***:After a year of follow-up,IOP was significantly reduced in the intraluminal stenting group than in the external ligation group(11.67±0.89 vs 14.2±4.0 mm Hg,respectively,P=0.024).Postoperative hypotony was more common in the external ligation group(2 cases,13.33%)than in the intraluminal stenting group(1 case,6.67%).CONCLUSION:Application of intraluminal stenting or external ligation during AGV surgery usually prevents postoperative hypotony(transient and persistent)that occurs in conventional AGV surgery.

Objectove:To evaluate the validity of Crypto-Giardia antigen rapid test(CA-RT) in comparison with the conventional mollified Ziehl-Neelsen acid fast(MZN-AF) staining method for the diagnosis of ***:Fifteen preserved stool samples from previously confirmed infections were used as positive controls and 40 stool samples from healthy people were used as negative control.A total of 85 stool samples were collected from suspected patients with cryptosporidiosis over 6 months during the period from January till *** stud) was conducted in the department of parasitology,central *** Specialist Hospital, *** *** samples were subjected to CA-RT and conventional MZN-AF staining *** parameters including sensitivity(SN).specificity(SP),accuracy index (AI).positive predictive value(PPV).and negative predictive value(NPV) were evaluated for both ***:Out of 15[lositive controls,CA-RT detected 13(86.7%) while MZN-AF detected 11(73.3%) positive ***-RT detected no positive case in 40 normal controls but MZN-AF detected 2(5%) as positive *** on the results,the *** and NPV were high in CA-RT than MZN-AF staining method,ie..86.7%vs.73.3%.100%vs.95%.96.4%vs.89.1%. 100%vs.84.6%and 95.2%vs.90.5%.*** of a total of 85 suspected *** detected 7(8.2%) but MZN-AF detected 6(7.1%) cases as ***:CA-RT immunoassay is more valid and reliable than MZN-AF staining method.

为改善重金属污染,提高固体废弃物利用率,以精炼渣(LFS)和粉煤灰(FA)为原料,氢氧化钠与水玻璃作为碱激发剂,在碱激发条件下制备地质聚合物固化重金属Zn^(2+)、Cd^(2+)。研究Zn^(2+)、Cd^(2+)掺量对固化体强度的影响,通过浸出实验评价地质聚合物对Zn^(2+)、Cd^(2+)的固定效果,结合XRD、SEM-EDS、FT-IR、XPS等表征方法对固定机制进行研究。结果表明:精炼渣-粉煤灰基地质聚合物与Zn^(2+)、Cd^(2+)具有良好的相容性,含有1.0%Cd^(2+)固化体28 d的抗压强度可达到40.62 MPa,水化浸出实验中Zn^(2+)、Cd^(2+)固化率均在99.6%以上;Zn^(2+)、Cd^(2+)加入后固化体中不会有新相生成,且在固化过程中未发生化学价态变化。金属离子能有效地固定在精炼渣基地质聚合物中,主要通过物理包封、吸附作用,少量重金属离子则是通过化学键合,以Si—O—M和Al—O—M (M=Zn、Cd)的形式存在于固化体中。

Effects of Glutamine Supplementation on Patients Undergoing Abdominal Surgery

Objective To evaluate the effects of supplementation of glutamine （GLN） on maintaining glu- tathione （GSH） level, immune system function, liver function, and clinical outcome of patients receiving abdominal operation. Methods Forty patients undergoing elective abdominal surgical treatment were randomly divided into 2 groups： study group （n=20） and control group （n=20）. All patients received total parenteral nutrition （TPN） for up to 7 days during perioperative period. The study group received TPN supplemented with GLN dipeptide while the control group received TPN without GLN dipeptide. Patients in both groups received equivalent nitrogen and caloric intake. Blood sample was taken on preoperative day, and the 1st, 3rd, 6th postoperative day to measure GSH level, immune indexes, and liver function indexes. Results The decrease of GSH level in plasma and red blood cell （RBC） in study group was less than that in control group during postoperative period. Ratio of GSH/glutathione disulfide （GSSG） in plasma in study grouP was higher than that in control group on the 3rd postoperative day （52.53±11.46 vs. 31.43±7.27, P = 0.001）. Albumin level in study group was higher than that in control group on the 3rd postoperative day （37.7±3.8 g/L vs. 33.8±4.2 g/L, P = 0.02）. There was no significant difference in the levels of immunoglobin （IgG, IgM, IgA） or T lymphocyte subgroup （CD4, CD8, CD4/CD8） in both groups during postoperative period. There was one case with infectious complication in control group, while none in study group. A trend of shortened hospital stay was observed in study group compared with control group （22.3±2.1 d vs. 24.9±1.7 d,P= 0.32）. Conclusions Supplementation of GLN-enriched TPN has beneficial effects on maintaining GSH levels in plasma and RBC, sustaining GSH/GSSG ratio and albumin level, and keeping antioxidant abilities during postoperative period in patients with abdominal operation, with the trends of decreasing incidence of infectious complicati

Induction of sub-G0 arrest and apoptosis by seed extract of Moringa peregrina（Forssk.） Fiori in cervical and prostate cancer cell lines

Objective: This study investigated cytotoxicity and induction of apoptosis in human cervical cancer cells(HELA) and prostate cancer cells(PC-3) using the most active fraction of Moringa peregrina seed ***: Dried and powdered seeds were extracted using 95% ethanol. The total ethanolic extract was further dissolved in distilled water and separated into petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and aqueous extracts. Based on the results of in vitro anticancer studies of all extracts, the most highly active extract was selected for evaluation of apoptosis induction and cell cycle analysis on HELA and PC-3 cells at its half maximal inhibitory concentration using flow cytometry;DNA fragmentation by agarose gel electrophoresis and the expression of protein were measured by Western ***: The chloroform fraction from the ethanolic extract of M. peregrina(CFEE) was the most active antitumor fraction. The selectivity index, determined using the normal Vero cell line, indicated that CFEE had a high degree of selectivity against HELA and PC-3 cells. CFEE induced apoptosis, confirmed by cell cycle arrest at sub-G0 phase and DNA fragmentation. CFEE induced an increase in mRNA expression of caspase-3, a decrease in Bcl-2 mRNA expression, and decreased ATP levels. CFEE increased protein expression of caspase-3 and decreased protein expression of poly-ADP-ribose polymerase-1(PARP-1).Flow cytometric analysis showed an appreciable increase in the number of cells in the early apoptotic stage in CFEE-treated HELA and PC-3 cells. CFEE treatment significantly increased lipid peroxidation(malondialdehyde level) in HELA and PC-3 ***: Seed extract of M. peregrina displayed a significant antitumor effect through apoptosis induction in HELA and PC-3 cells.

Polysaccharide composition during cotton seed fibre development:temporal differences between species and in different seasons

Mesenchymal stem cells and the neuronal microenvironment in the area of spinal cord injury

Cell-based technologies are used as a therapeutic strategy in spinal cord injury(SCI). Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs), which secrete various neurotrophic factors and cytokines, have immunomodulatory, anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory effects, modulate reactivity/phenotype of astrocytes and the microglia, thereby promoting neuroregeneration seem to be the most promising. The therapeutic effect of MSCs is due to a paracrine mechanism of their action, therefore the survival of MSCs and their secretory phenotype is of particular importance. Nevertheless, these data are not always reported in efficacy studies of MSC therapy in SCI. Here, we provide a review with summaries of preclinical trials data evaluating the efficacy of MSCs in animal models of SCI. Based on the data collected, we have tried(1) to establish the behavior of MSCs after transplantation in SCI with an evaluation of cell survival, migration potential, distribution in the area of injured and intact tissue and possible differentiation;(2) to determine the effects MSCs on neuronal microenvironment and correlate them with the efficacy of functional recovery in SCI;(3) to ascertain the conditions under which MSCs demonstrate their best survival and greatest efficacy.

Pathological,immunohistochemical and microbiologicalal analysis of lacrimal sac biopsies in patients with chronic dacrocystitis

AIM:To analyze cases of obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct which creates a fertile environment for secondary bacterial Infection and can result in dacryocystitis,which is a constant threat to cornea and orbital soft tissue and a potential source of endophthalmitis following intraocular *** majority of obstructions of the lacrimal excretory outflow system are acquired ones occurring in adulthood and involving the distal parts of the *** obstruction may be primary/idiopathic or secondary to a wide variety of infectious,inflammatory,traumatic,mechanical,toxic or neoplastic causes mimicking idiopathic *** cases are treated by dacryocystorhinostomy(DCR).METHODS:The present study was conducted to determine the histopathologic,immunohistochemical and current microbiologic characteristics of lacrimal sac specimens in patients undergoing external ***:Non-specific lacrimal sac pathology was present in all 33 cases and 81.8%of the cases showed moderate chronic inflammation with a chronic inflammatory score(CIS)ranging between 4 and 6,whereas 12.12%showed severe inflammatory changes with a CIS of *** degree of inflammation was seen in6.06%with a CIS of *** total prevalence of grampositive,gram-negative,and culture-negative samples were 59.4%,37.5%,and 3%***:Non-specific chronic inflammation withfibrosis is indeed the most commonly reported histopathological finding in lacrimal sac wall biopsy specimens.
