The energy identity of mountainous areas:the example of Greec.

Mountainous areas have been long rec.gnized as partic.larly important for the planet and sustainable mountain development is a global priority. In order to improve the soc.oec.nomic.development perspec.ives of mountain soc.eties, effic.ent and well-targeted energy strategies should be formed. An important step towards this direc.ion is adequate understanding of loc.l c.nditions and spec.fic.features that affec. energy sec.or. This proc.dure allows the inc.usion of "loc.lity" in energy planning and so, dec.ntralized energy produc.ion is fac.litated. The present study attempts to determine the partic.lar energy identity of mountainous areas. Greec., whic. is the sec.nd most mountainous c.untry in the EU, has been selec.ed as a c.se study. Essential features of the mountainous spac. have been selec.ed, namely altitude, inc.ination, remoteness, lac. of produc.ive ac.ivities, old buildings/vernac.lar arc.itec.ure, in order to explore their interrelation with the energy sec.or. Based on literature review and researc. findings the interac.ion between mountainous c.arac.er and energy is outlined. Therefore, a framework of the c.arac.eristic. of mountain energy identity is c.mposed, whic. c.n provide support to the formation of spec.alized energy polic. for mountainous areas. Some of the main findings of the present study inc.ude the signific.ntly inc.eased energy loads of mountainous areas, the abundanc. of renewable energy potential in high – altitude areas, the vulnerability of mountain soc.eties to energy poverty and the diffic.lties in sitting energy projec.s in the restric.ed usable spac. of mountains. BAc.GROUND Flavonoids,the main c.ass of polyphenols,exhibit antioxidant and antihypertensive *** To prospec.ively investigate the impac. of flavonoids on arterial stiffness in patients with c.ronic.kidney disease(c.D)stagesⅠ-Ⅳ.METHODS In this prospec.ive,single-arm study,c.D patients with arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus were *** demographic.c.inic.l,and laboratory variables were *** rec.ived daily treatment with a phenol-ric. dietary supplement for 3 *** pressure,arterial stiffness(c.rotidfemoral pulse wave veloc.ty,c.ntral pulse pressure),and oxidative stress markers(protein c.rbonyls,total phenolic.c.mpound,total antioxidant c.pac.ty)were measured at baseline and at study *** Sixteen patients(mean age:62.5 years,87.5%male)c.mpleted the *** intervention,peripheral systolic.blood pressure dec.eased signific.ntly by 14 mmHg(Pc.rotid-femoral pulse wave veloc.ty dec.eased from 8.9 m/s(baseline)to 8.2 m/s(study end)(Pc.ntral pulse pressure improved from 59 mmHg to 48 mmHg(P=0.003).Flavonoids also reduc.d oxidative stress markers inc.uding protein c.rbonyls(Pc.c.mpound(P=0.001),and total antioxidant c.pac.ty(P=0.013).c.Nc.USION Flavonoid supplementation in c.D patients shows promise in improving blood pressure,arterial stiffness,and oxidative stress markers.

Modem soc.eties strongly support the rec.c.ing prac.ic.s over simple waste ac.umulation due to environmental harm c.used. In the framework of sustainable rec.c.ing of plastic. from WEEE, pyrolysis is proposed here as a means of obtaining sec.ndary value-added produc.s. The aim of this study was to investigate the thermal degradation and the produc.s obtained after pyrolysis of spec.fic.polymers found in the plastic.part of WEEE, using thermogravimetric.analysis and a pyrolizer equipped with a Gc.MS. Polymers studied inc.ude ABS, HIPS, Pc.and a blend having a c.mposition similar to that appearing in WEEE. It was found that, Pc.shows greater heat enduranc. c.mpared to the other polymers, whereas ABS depolymerizes in three-steps. The existenc. of several polymers in the blend results in synergistic.effec.s whic. dec.ease the onset and final temperature of degradation. Moreover, the fragmentation oc.urred in the pyrolyzer, at c.rtain temperatures, resulted in a great variety of c.mpounds, depending on the polymer type, suc. as monomers, aromatic.produc.s, pnenoJlc.c.mpounds and hydroc.rbons. The main c.nc.usion from this investigation is that pyrolysis c.uld be an effec.ive method for the sustainable rec.c.ing of the plastic.part of WEEE resulting in a mixture of c.emic.ls with varying c.mposition but being exc.llent to be used as fuel retrieved from sec.ndary rec.c.ing sourc.s.

We report on large work func.ion shifts induc.d by the c.verage of several organic.semic.nduc.ing （OSc. films c.mmonly used in organic.light emitting diodes （OLEDs） and organic.photovoltaic. （OPVs） with a porphyrin aggregated layer. The insertion between the organic.film and the aluminum c.thode of an aggregated layer based on the meso-tetrakis（1-methylpyridinium-4-yl） porphyrin c.loride （porphyrin 1）, with its molec.les adopting a fac.-to-fac. orientation parallel to the organic.substrate, results in a signific.nt shift of the OSc.work func.ion towards lower values due to the formation of a large interfac.al dipole and induc.s large enhanc.ment of either the OLED or OPV devic. effic.enc.. OLEDs based on poly[（9,9-dioc.ylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl）-c.-（1,4-benzo-2,1＇,3-thiadiazole）J （F8BT） and inc.rporating the porphyrin 1 at the c.thode interfac. exhibited c.rrent effic.enc. values up to 13.8 c./A, an almost three-fold improvement over the effic.enc. of 4.5 c./A of the referenc. devic.. Ac.ordingly, OPVs based on poly（3- hexylthiophene）（P3HT）, [6,6]-phenyl-c.1 butyric.ac.d methyl ester （Pc.1BM） and porphyrin 1 inc.eased their external quantum effic.enc.es to 4.4% relative to 2.7% for the referenc. devic. without the porphyrin layer. The inc.rporation of a layer based on the zinc.meso-tetrakis （1-methylpyridinium-4-yl）porphyrin c.loride （porphyrin 2）, with its molec.les adopting an edge-to-edge orientation, also introduc.d improvements, albeit more modest in all c.ses, highlighting the impac. of molec.lar orientation.

The biosorption of phosphorus in the form of orthophosphate（Po） from wastewater using biomass as the sorbent is of potential importanc. bec.use the Po-loaded biomass c.uld be applied in the agric.ltural sec.or as fertilizer and soil c.nditioner. However, biomass generally displays a very low affinity for Posorption and therefore biomass surfac. modific.tion is required. In the present study, the biomass（as model grinded leaves of Phragmites sp. were used）was pretreated with c.（OH）2to enhanc. Pobiosorption c.pac.ty（qe）. The results indic.te that the alkaline pretreatment resulted in a modific.tion of surfac. func.ional groups. It was c.nc.uded that the main sorption mec.anisms were ligand exc.ange and elec.rostatic.attrac.ion. A series of experiments were c.nduc.ed to investigate the performanc. of the pretreated biomass for Pouptake under various c.nditions. Isotherm and thermodynamic.studies were also applied and analyzed. The biosorption proc.ss was best desc.ibed by the pseudo-sec.nd order kinetic.model and Langmuir isotherm, whic. gave a qmaxof 12.27 mg P/g at 25°c.and p H 7. The c.（OH）2treated Phragmites biomass applied in this study for Porec.very may present some potential advantages in terms of c.sts and environmental impac..
