Aim:Extracellular matrix(ECM)-adhesions and their interaction with actin cytoskeleton are fundamental for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Fascin-1,an actin-bundling protein,is correlated with poor HCC prognosis,and is known regarding the molecular mechanism of its *** this study,the authors investigated Fascin-1 basic molecular mechanism and cellular properties in HCC ***:Fascin-1 was silenced by small interfering RNA and the expression of *** ECM-adhesion-related proteins were assessed along with the cells’adhesion capacity in two cell lines that differ in terms of aggressiveness;the hepatoma cell line pLC/pRF/5(Alexander)and the highly invasive HCC cell line ***:This study shows that Fascin-1 is upregulated in HepG2 cells compared to Alexander cells and when silenced leads to increased cell adhesion only in HepG2,while at the same time is associated with reduced migfilin and vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein(VASp)***:This is the first study to show that Fascin-1 contributes to a more aggressive phenotype in HCC cells and acts through migfilin and VASp.

The offering strategy of energy storage in energy and frequency response(FR) markets needs to account for country-specific market regulations around FR products as well as FR utilization factors, which are highly uncertain. To this end, a novel optimal offering model is proposed for stand-alone price-taking storage participants, which accounts for recent FR market design developments in the UK, namely the trade of FR products in time blocks, and the mutual exclusivity among the multiple FR products. The model consists of a day-ahead stage, devising optimal offers under uncertainty, and a real-time stage, representing the storage operation after uncertainty is materialized. Furthermore, a concrete methodological framework is developed for comparing different approaches around the anticipation of uncertain FR utilization factors(deterministic one based on expected values, deterministic one based on worst-case values, stochastic one, and robust one), by providing four alternative formulations for the real-time stage of the proposed offering model, and carrying out an out-of-sample validation of the four model instances. Finally, case studies employing real data from UK energy and FR markets compare these four instances against achieved profits, FR delivery violations, and computational scalability.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the most common primary liver malignancy and one of the most common causes of cancer-related death with the projection to increase during the next few decades(1).During the last 3 decades,several staging systems have been introduced for the stratification of the prognosis and management of HCC of all *** is no consensus regarding the universal implementation of one staging system since all the proposed classifications have limitations(2).The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC)Staging System remains the most widely classification system used for HCC management guidelines that incorporates tumor size,presence of metastatic disease,portal hypertension,Child-Turcotte-pugh score,total bilirubin and performance ***,it does not account for tumoral behavior,and it is very“conservative”(restrictive)regarding resectability,especially for BCLC-B patients who might benefit from surgical management(3,4).Recent advances in systemic and locoregional therapies have led to changes in many guidelines regarding systemic therapy,as well as the possibility for downstaging patients to undergo surgery or transplant with curative intent.

Coating with viscous formulations has been essential in numerous industries as it can be a means for providing functionalization, additional properties, as well as other benefits. However, there have been scarce studies that have investigated and proposed methodologies in literature. Continuous coating of powders with viscous liquids poses as a promising technology, which has been mentioned in some studies, but has not yet been thoroughly investigated. This paper employs the use of image processing and analysis, in combination with statistical analysis of particles to evaluate the effectiveness of foams and liquids as a means of coating powder beds. Two different sizes of twin screw mixers that are working in continuous operation are employed, and a new continuous foaming device is fabricated and used for the experiments of coating. The effect of materials and process parameters (as for example rotational speed, and flowrate) on the quality of coating are investigated. Image analysis is used to assess the coating quality. The results clearly showcase the potential of using twin screw mixers for coating purposes and not only for mixing. The hypothesis that using large bubble foams to improve the coating of viscous liquids on particles is proven correct, as they provide higher quality coatings compared to their equivalent liquids, when used in the twin screw mixer. Surprisingly, using a larger scale twin screw mixer, does not show a substantial effect on the mixing, regarding quality, however there is still a requirement for mix optimization for achieving scale-up of this process. These results provide a new pathway for coating powders with viscous formulations in industrial applications, requiring less energy and effort in this process, and can pave the way towards introducing more sustainable industrial methodologies for coating.

In forest science and practice, the total tree height is one of the basic morphometric attributes at the tree level and it has been closely linked with important stand attributes. In the current research, sixteen nonlinear functions for height prediction were tested in terms of their fitting ability against samples of Abies borisii regis and pinus sylvestris trees from mountainous forests in central Greece. The fitting procedure was based on generalized nonlinear weighted regression. At the final stage, a five-quantile nonlinear height-diameter model was developed for both species through a quantile regression approach, to estimate the entire conditional distribution of tree height, enabling the evaluation of the diameter impact at various quantiles and providing a comprehensive understanding of the proposed relationship across the distribution. The results clearly showed that employing the diameter as the sole independent variable, the 3-parameter Hossfeld function and the 2-parameter N?slund function managed to explain approximately 84.0% and 81.7% of the total height variance in the case of King Boris fir and Scots pine species, respectively. Furthermore, the models exhibited low levels of error in both cases(2.310m for the fir and 3.004m for the pine), yielding unbiased predictions for both fir(-0.002m) and pine(-0.004m). Notably, all the required assumptions for homogeneity and normality of the associated residuals were achieved through the weighting procedure, while the quantile regression approach provided additional insights into the height-diameter allometry of the specific species. The proposed models can turn into valuable tools for operational forest management planning, particularly for wood production and conservation of mountainous forest ecosystems.

In this editorial,we comment on the article by Zeng et al published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Diabetes in *** focus on the epidemiological,pathophysiological,and clinical interplay between obesity and type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM).Overweight and obesity represent a growing threat for modern societies and people with T1DM could not be an exception to this *** exogenous insulin administration,genetic and epigenetic factors,and psy-chosocial and behavioral parameters,along with the modern way of life that incorporates unhealthy eating patterns and physical inactivity,set the stage for the increasing obesity rates in *** our knowledge of the underlying mechanisms that lead to the development of obesity and hyperglycemia expands,it becomes clear that there are overlap zones in the pathophysiology of the two main types of *** regarding strict dividing lines between“autoimmune”and“metabolic”phenotypes increase the risk of trapping physicians into ineffective therapeutic approaches,instead of individualized diabetes *** this context,the use of adjuncts to insulin therapy that have the potential to alleviate cardiorenal risk and decrease body weight can reduce the burden of obesity in patients with T1DM.
