The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has had a major impact on pediatric *** infection is often asymptomatic and atypical in children,while overlapping presentations with other infectious diseases generate additional diagnostic *** high probability of missed pediatric cases and the invasive nature of surgery generate great concern for widespread transmission in this *** guidelines suggest that triage of cases should be made on a case-by-case basis by a multidisciplinary team of *** can be assisted by classifying cases as elective,urgent,or an emergency according to the risks of delaying their surgical management.A workflow diagram should ideally guide the management of all cases from admission to *** surgery is necessary,all staff should use appropriate personal protective equipment,and high-risk practices,such as aerosol-generating tools or procedures,should be avoided if ***,carefully designed organizational protocols should be established to minimize transmission while ensuring the uninterrupted operation of pediatric surgery *** example,surgical teams can be divided into small weekly rotating groups,and healthcare workers should be continuously monitored for COVID-19 ***,team protocols in the operating room can optimize communication and improve adherence to personal protective equipment *** operating rooms,pediatric intensive care units,and surgical wards should be specifically designed for suspected or confirmed COVID-19 ***,transportation of patients should be minimal and follow designated short *** these measures can help mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric surgery units.

BACKGROUND The increased prevalence of obesity has resulted in orthopedic surgeons being likely to face many patients with a high body mass index(BMI)who warrant total hip arthroplasties(THAs)over the coming ***'findings considered the postoperative clinical,and functional outcomes in these patients are controversial,and selecting the most appropriate surgical approach remains *** To compare pain-levels,functionality,and quality-of-life in obese and nonobese osteoarthritic patients who have undergone primary total hip arthroplasty through either direct-anterior-approach(DAA)or *** One hundred and twenty participants(>50 years)were divided into four groups according to the surgical approach(DAA or Hardinge)and patients'BMI(nonobese<30 kg/m^(2)vs obese≥30 kg/m^(2)).Outcomes were measured preoperatively and postoperatively(6^(th)and 12^(th)week).Pain was measured with Face Pain Scale-Revised(FPS-R).Functionality was measured with Timed Up&Go(TUG)test and Modified Harris Hip Score-Greek version(MHHS-Gr).Quality-of-life was evaluated with the 12-item-International Hip Outcome Tool-Greek version(iHOT12-Gr)(Clinical Trial Identifier:ISRCTN15066737).RESULTS DAA vs Hardinge:(week 6)DAA-patients showed 12.2% less pain,more functionality(14.8% shorter TUG-performance time,21.5% higher MHHS-Gr),and 38.16% better quality-of-life(iHOT12-Gr)compared to Hardinge-patients(all P values<0.001).These differences were further increased on week 12(all P values≤0.05).DAA-obese vs Hardinge-obese:(week 6)DAA-obese patients had less pain,shorter TUG-performance time,better MHHS-Gr and iHOT12-Gr scores than Hardinge-obese(all P values<0.01).(Week 12)Only the TUG-performance time of DAA-obese was significantly shortened(22.57%,P<0.001).DAAnonobese vs DAA-obese:no statistically significant differences were observed comparing the 6th and 12th weeks'*** DAA-groups reported less pain,more functionality and better quality-of-life,compared to

AIM： To investigate the probable role of soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 （sTREM-1） in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease （IBD）.METHODS： Fifty-eight patients were enrolled; nineteen healthy volunteers served as controls; 8 patients were diagnosed with Crohn＇s disease, and 31 with ulcerative colitis, Clinical and endoscopic activity indexes of patients with Crohn＇s disease and ulcerative colitis respectively were estimated, Upon admission blood was sampled; sTREM-1 and TNFα were measured by an immunoassay and malondialdehyde （IDA） by the thiobarbitourate assay, after passage through an HPLC system,RESULTS： Median ± SE of TNFα of controls, patients with Crohn＇s disease and patients with ulcerative colitis were 6.02 ± 3.94, 7.98 ± 5.08 （P = NS vs controls）, and 8.45 ± 4.15 ng/L （P = 0.018 vs controls） respectively. Respective values of sTREM-1 were 53.31 ± 32.93, 735.10 ± 197.17 （P = 0.008 vs controls） and 435.82 ± 279.71 ng/L （P = 0.049 vs controls）, sTREM-1 was positively correlated with Crohn＇s disease activity index and clinical and endoscopic activity indexes of ulcerative colitis （P = 0.002, 0.001 and 0.009, respectively）, sTREM-1 of patients with ulcerative colitis was positively correlated with TNFα （P = 0.001）.CONCLUSION： sTREM-1 seems to behave as a novel mediator in IBD in correlation with the degree of the intlammatory reaction of the intestinal mucosa.

Human gait is a complex phenomenon involving the motion of various parts of the body simultaneously in a 3 dimensional space. Dynamics of different parts of the body translate its center of gravity from one point to another in the most efficient way. Body dynamics as well as static parameters of different body parts contribute to gait recognition. Studies have been performed to assess the discriminatory power of static and dynamic features. The current research literature, however, lacks the work on the comparative significance of dynamic features from different parts of the body. This paper sheds some light on the recognition performance of dynamic features extracted from different parts of human body in an appearance based set up.

通过慢病毒介导的短发夹RNA对成纤维细胞的转化生长因子β(TGF-β)信号通路进行干扰,采用双光子荧光显微成像技术并结合基于细胞-细胞外基质三维系统的图像信息学方法,研究了植于多孔胶原蛋白支架中成纤维细胞分化过程的TGF-β信号通路.结果表明,在介导成纤维细胞分化的过程中,生长因子TGF-β1比TGF-β3发挥的作用更大,在TGF-β1介导的成纤维细胞分化过程中,蛋白SMAD1和SMAD3通过不同方式也发挥了重要作用.所得结果与通过生化或遗传学方法的结果相吻合.

Anger and hostility in the aftermath of a wildfire disaster in Greece

Previous studies reported that anger and hostility are often presented in the victims of a disaster. This study investigates the symptoms of anger and hostility after a wildfire disaster in a rural area of Greece. Cross sectional case control study of adult population (18-65 years old). Face to face interview. Data collected were demographic, Symptom Checklist 90-Revised for assessment of hostility, type and number of losses, trust in institutions personal and social attitudes. It was found that more of the victims of the wildfires reported symptoms of hostility compared to controls but this difference was disappeared when we adjust for other variables. Risk factors for development of hostility among the victims were mistrust in military forces and media, high levels of anxiety and distress, younger age and having higher education. It was concluded that anger and hostility after a disaster perhaps are not only related to disaster but other factors concerning demographic and personal characteristics may play an important role.

The paper examines the effects of grapefruit consumption in relation to drugs, obesity and cardiovascular risk factors. The review includes the most updated studies found in Pub-Med. The grapefruit effect refers to the ability of grapefruit juice and supplements to interact with a wide variety of pharmaceuticals, either enhancing or limiting their systemic availability. Due to altering the active dosage of the pharmaceutical, Grapefruit juice is commonly not allowed to be used alongside with many drugs. Naringin is the most important one, which can inhibit absorption of some drugs but more commonly 6’7’-dihydroxybergamottin, which inhibits CYP3A4. Lately, grapefruit has been found both in rats and adults to reduce body weight, blood pressure, improve lipid and hepatic profile and decrease platelet aggregation. These promising results must be followed by additional studies in order to add to the importance of the role and effects of grapefruit as part of our diet.
