Highly efficient and aberration-free off-plane grating spectrometer and monochromator for EUV—soft X-ray applications

We demonstrate a novel flat-field,dual-optic imaging EUV—soft X-ray spectrometer and monochromator that attains an unprecedented throughput efficiency exceeding 60%by design,along with a superb spectral resolution ofλ/Δλ>200 accomplished without employing variable line spacing gratings.Exploiting the benefits of the conical diffraction geometry,the optical system is globally optimized in multidimensional parameter space to guarantee optimal imaging performance over a broad spectral range while maintaining circular and elliptical polarization states at the first,second,and third diffraction orders.Moreover,our analysis indicates minimal temporal dispersion,with pulse broadening confined within 80 fs tail-to-tail and an FWHM value of 29 fs,which enables ultrafast spectroscopic and pump-probe studies with femtosecond accuracy.Furthermore,the spectrometer can be effortlessly transformed into a monochromator spanning the EUV—soft X-ray spectral region using a single grating with an aberration-free spatial profile.Such capability allows coherent diffractive imaging applications to be conducted with highly monochromatic light in a broad spectral range and extended to the soft X-ray region with minimal photon loss,thus facilitating state-of-the-art imaging of intricate nano-and bio-systems,with a significantly enhanced spatiotemporal resolution,down to the nanometer–femtosecond level.

This is a continuity of a series of taxonomic papers where materials are examined,described and novel combinations are proposed where necessary to improve our traditional species concepts and provide updates on their classification.In addition to extensive morphological descriptions and appropriate asexual and sexual connections,DNA sequence data are also analysed from concatenated datasets(rDNA,TEF-a,RBP2 and b-Tubulin)to infer phylogenetic relationships and substantiate systematic position of taxa within appropriate ranks.Wherever new species or combinations are being proposed,we apply an integrative approach(morphological and molecular data as well as ecological features wherever applicable).Notes on 125 fungal taxa are compiled in this paper,including eight new genera,101 new species,two new combinations,one neotype,four reference specimens,new host or distribution records for eight species and one alternative morphs.The new genera introduced in this paper are Alloarthopyrenia,Arundellina,Camarosporioides,Neomassaria,Neomassarina,Neotruncatella,Paracapsulospora and Pseudophaeosphaeria.The new species are Alfaria spartii,Alloarthopyrenia italica,Anthostomella ravenna,An.thailandica,Arthrinium paraphaeospermum,Arundellina typhae,Aspergillus koreanus,Asterina cynometrae,Bertiella ellipsoidea,Blastophorum aquaticum,Cainia globosa,Camarosporioides phragmitis,Ceramothyrium menglunense,Chaetosphaeronema achilleae,Chlamydotubeufia helicospora,Ciliochorella phanericola,Clavulinopsis aurantiaca,Colletotrichum insertae,Comoclathris italica,Coronophora myricoides,Cortinarius fulvescentoideus,Co.nymphatus,Co.pseudobulliardioides,Co.tenuifulvescens,Cunninghamella gigacellularis,Cyathus pyristriatus,Cytospora cotini,Dematiopleospora alliariae,De.cirsii,Diaporthe aseana,Di.garethjonesii,Distoseptispora multiseptata,Dis.tectonae,Dis.tectonigena,Dothiora buxi,Emericellopsis persica,Gloniopsis calami,Helicoma guttulatum,Helvella floriforma,H.oblongispora,Hermatomyces subiculosa,Juncaceicola italica,Lactarius dirkii,Lentithecium

hole-grain cereals,including wheat,barley,oat,rye,corn,rice,millet,and triticale,are a rich source of calories,essential vitamins,minerals,and phytochemicals that both nourish and protect humans and animals from diseases such as heart attack and cancer[1].However,susceptibility to foliar diseases caused by necrotrophic or biotrophic fungal pathogens continues to reduce yield potential or lead to total crop failure and famine in developing nations[2].Historically,foliar diseases of cereals have been controlled using either fungicide treatment[3]or plant breeding[4].

Landscape alteration affects the demography of an endangered avian predator by reducing the habitat quality

Habitat transformation is identified as major threat to biodiversity loss globally,affecting threatened raptors.Changes in land use can alter the abundance and distribution of birds of prey by affecting habitat availability and quality.In this study,we used multivariate analyses to investigate the effect of habitat alteration on the demography of a declining Eastern Imperial Eagle(Aqufla heliaca),making assumptions for future population trajectories.We used the Generalized Linear Mixed Models with Poisson distribution and Log link function,searching a relationship between the demographic parameters and the landscape structure and possible effects of fragmentation.In our study area,habitat change affected dramatically permanent grasslands,shrinking their availability.As we expected,the share of grasslands in eagles’territories significantly affected occupancy rate,but not productivity and breeding frequency.We found that occupancy rate decreased significantly,while productivity and breeding frequency showed no trend.Modeling the effect of habitat alteration on Eastern Imperial Eagle demography,we found out that territory quality was a more powerful factor driving the response of a top predator to the alteration of favorite foraging habitats.Only the habitat quality in source territories had a significant positive effect on eagle productivity.We found that simple rules to predict adverse agricultural impact on territory abandonment or breeding productivity of a top predator were not reliable.Our results could be used for planning conservation of other large territorial raptors,facing the same type of threat.

Spatially resolved transcriptomics is an emerging class of high-throughput technologies that enable biologists to systematically investigate the expression of genes along with spatial information.Upon data acquisition,one major hurdle is the subsequent interpretation and visualization of the datasets acquired.To address this challenge,VR-Cardiomics is presented,which is a novel data visualization system with interactive functionalities designed to help biologists interpret spatially resolved transcriptomic datasets.By implementing the system in two separate immersive environments,fish tank virtual reality(FTVR)and head-mounted display virtual reality(HMD-VR),biologists can interact with the data in novel ways not previously possible,such as visually exploring the gene expression patterns of an organ,and comparing genes based on their 3D expression profiles.Further,a biologist-driven use-case is presented,in which immersive environments facilitate biologists to explore and compare the heart expression profiles of different genes.

Clinical analysis on neuroprotection of transient ischemic attacks

Transient ischemic attack（TIA） is an acute cerebrovascular incident,and is generally considered the best opportunity for early neuroprotective treatment against cerebral ischemia.This study retrospectively analyzed 80 patients with TIA（38 males and 42 females）.Among 61 patients who received neuroprotective cerebrolysin treatment within 24 hours after TIA onset,13（21.31%） patients suffered subsequent strokes.Among 19 patients who received neuroprotective cerebrolysin treatment within 24-72 hours after TIA onset,seven（36.84%） developed cerebral infarction.There was a significant difference in the proportion of subsequent strokes between patients receiving cerebrolysin treatment within 24 hours and 24-72 hours after TIA onset（P = 0.438）.These findings suggest that neuroprotective drugs administrated within 24 hours after TIA onset help reduce the incidence of subsequent strokes.The results demonstrate usefulness of the ABCD2 score at TIA patients in the determination of short-term and long-term cerebrovascular risk,including the frequency of subsequent ischemic cerebral infarctions up to 12 months.

BACKGROUND Paraneoplastic syndromes remain poorly understood and manifest as multifaceted clinical symptoms,making their diagnosis difficult.Cholestasis can be observed in various malignancies.In rare cases,it can be a paraneoplastic manifestation,most often associated with renal cell carcinoma and other urogenital tumors,as well as with bronchial carcinoma.The classical form of Stauffer syndrome presents with a reversible anicteric increase of cholestatic liver function tests,thrombocytosis,coagulation impairment,and hepatosplenomegaly,without any proven hepatobiliary obstruction or metastases.CASE SUMMARY We report a patient who presented with elevated liver enzymes,cholestatic jaundice,weight loss and pruritus,in whom renal cell carcinoma was incidentally found during hospitalization.Clinical,laboratory,and imaging tests excluded primary hepatic cause or metastatic disease.Jaundice and laboratory abnormalities reversed completely a few months after nephrectomy.This case is an example of the many sides of renal cell carcinoma,and it focuses the clinicians’attention on the differential diagnosis of cholestasis,including Stauffer syndrome and its variant.Thus,the correct diagnosis can be straightforward and the associated malignancy can be treated promptly.All cases should be followed up with a multidisciplinary team.Interleukin(IL)-6 is proposed to contribute to the pathophysiology of the condition.The probable mechanism is proinflammatory activity by the IL-6 cytokine,causing elevation of C-reactive protein and haptoglobin and inhibition of hepatobiliary transporter gene expression,impairing biliary outflow.CONCLUSION Despite being rare,Stauffer syndrome is a potentially reversible paraneoplastic condition,when the primary cause is treatable.This syndrome should be considered by clinicians because of the remediable liver disturbance,after successful treatment of the underlying malignancy.

Sol-gel synthesis, surface and magnetic properties of nanocrystalline SmAlO_3

Nanocrystals of single-phase samarium monoaluminate (SmAlO3) were synthesized and studied for the first time. Malic acid was employed as a new complexing agent in the sol-gel process. The material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDS), specific surface area and density. Liver dysfunction as a cytokine storm manifestation and prognostic factor for severe COVID-19

patients with or without preexisting liver disorders,posing a significant complication and mortality risk.During coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),abnormal liver function is typically observed.However,liver injury may occur because of the treatment as well.Ischemia,cytokine storm,and hypoxia were identified as the three major factors contributing to liver damage during COVID-19.Indeed,raised liver enzymes during hospitalizations may be attributed to medications used,as well as sepsis and shock.As a result,the proportion of hospitalized patients afflicted with COVID-19 and pathological liver biomarkers varies from 14%to 53%.Aminotransferases and bilirubin are found most often elevated.Usually,increased gamma-glutamyltransferase,alkaline phosphatase,and decreased serum albumin levels are demonstrated.Additionally,although there is no specific treatment for COVID-19,many of the drugs used to treat the infection are hepatotoxic.In this mini-review,we focus on how liver dysfunction can be one of the features associated with the COVID-19 cytokine storm.Furthermore,data show that liver injury can be an independent predictor of severe COVID-19,the need for hospitalization,and death.
