The present paper reconstructs the biogeographic diversification for Nolana L.f.(Solanaceae),a genus of 89 endemic species largely restricted to fog-dependent desert lomas formations of coastal Peru and *** efforts have reconstructed a phylogenetic estimate for Nolana using a combination of molecular ***,we expand on those results to examine hypotheses of biogeographic origins and diversification *** occupies habitats within a continuous coastal desert and forms a terrestrial archipelago of discrete "islands" unique in size,topography,and species *** locality contains at least one Nolana species and many contain multiple species in *** genus has a Chilean origin,with the basal clades confined to Chile with wide geographic and ecological *** contains two strongly supported clades,suggesting two introductions with subsequent radiation.A Chilean clade of shrubby,small-flowered species appears to have had its origins from the same ancestors of the second line that radiated in Peru and northern *** galapagensis is endemic to the Islas Gala’pagos,with origins traced to Peruvian taxa with a divergence time of 0.35 *** of diversification over the past 4.02 mya in Nolana,in one of the driest habitats on Earth,suggest rapid adaptive radiation in several *** in Nolana may be attributed to characters that confer a competitive advantage in unpredictable and water-dependent environments,such as succulent leaf anatomy and ecophysiology,and the reproductive mericarp unique to *** processes affecting or shaping the biota of western South America are discussed.

Many biological settings involve complex fluids that have non-Newtonian mechanical responses that arise from suspended *** contrast,Newtonian fluids are liquids or mixtures of a simple molecular structure that exhibit a linear relationship between the shear stress and the rate of *** modeling complex fluids,the extra stress from the non-Newtonian contribution must be included in the governing *** this study we compare Lagrangian mesh and Oldroyd-B formulations of fluidstructure interaction in an immersed boundary *** start-up phase of planar Poiseuille flow between two parallel plates is used as a test case for the fluid *** Newtonian and Oldroyd-B fluids there exist analytical solutions which are used in the comparison of simulation and theoretical *** Lagrangian mesh results are compared with Oldroyd-B using comparable parameters.A regridding algorithm is introduced for the Lagrangian mesh *** show that the Lagrangian mesh model simulations with regridding produce results in close agreement with the Oldfoyd-B model.

Australia has developed extensive policies and guidelines for the management of its water. The City of Salisbury, located within metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia, developed rapidly through urbanisation from the 1970s. Water sensitive urban design principles were adopted to maximise the use of the increased rim-off generated by urbanisation and ameliorate flood risk. Managed aquifer recharge was introduced for storing remediated low-salinity stormwater by aquifer storage and recovery （ASR） in a brackish aquiter for subsequent lrngatlon. Ibis paper outlines now a municipal government has progressively adopted principles of Water Sensitive Urban Design during its development within a framework of evolving national water policies. Salisbury＇s success with stormwater harvesting led to the formation of a pioneering w aterbusiness that includes linking projects from nine sites to provide a non-potable supply of 5 ×10^6 m^3 year. These installations hosted a number of applied research projects addressing well configuration, water quality, reliability and economics and facilitated the evaluation of its system as a potential potable water source. The evaluation showed that while untreated stonnwater contained contaminants, subsurface storage and end-use controls were sufficient to make recovered water sale for public open space irrigation, and with chlorination acceptable lbr third pipe supplies. Drinking water quality could be achieved by adding microfiltration, disinfection with UV and chlorination. The costs that would need to be expended to achieve drinking water safety standards were found to be considerably less than the cost of establishing dual pipe distribution systems. The full cost of supply was determined to be AUD$1.57 m ＂ for non-potable water for pubhc open space lrngatlon much cheaper than mares water, AUD $3.45 m at that time. Producing and storing potable water was found to cost AUDS1.96 to $2.24 m .

There has long been a recognised association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and the composite aspects of the metabolic *** of this association highlighted the supposed co-existence of elevated uric acid levels in those with *** is interest in exploitation of this as a putative diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in *** the increased economic and health burden associated with the NAFLD epidemic,improved methods of population-based,minimally-invasive methods and biomarkers are clearly highly sought and *** this opinion review we review the proposed role of uric acid in the pathogenesis of NAFLD and its potential utilisation in the diagnosis and monitoring of the disease process.

The pathogenesis of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is complex and thought to be dependent on multiple parallel hits on a background of genetic *** evidence suggests that MAFLD progression is a dynamic two-way process relating to repetitive bouts of metabolic stress and inflammation interspersed with endogenous anti-inflammatory reparative *** MAFLD,excessive hepatic lipid accumulation causes the production of lipotoxins that induce mitochondrial dysfunction,endoplasmic reticular stress,and over production of reactive oxygen species(ROS).Models of MAFLD show marked disruption of mitochondrial function and reduced oxidative capacitance with impact on cellular processes including mitophagy,oxidative phosphorylation,and mitochondrial *** excess,ROS modify insulin and innate immune signaling and alter the expression and activity of essential enzymes involved in lipid *** can also cause direct damage to intracellular structures causing hepatocyte injury and *** select cases,the use of anti-oxidants and ROS scavengers have been shown to diminish the proapoptopic effects of fatty *** this link,endogenous anti-oxidant pathways have been a target of interest,with Nrf2 activation showing a reduction in oxidative stress and inflammation in models of *** hormone receptorβ(THRβ)agonists and nuclear peroxisome proliferationactivated receptor(PPAR)family have also gained interest in reducing hepatic lipotoxicity and restoring hepatic function in models of ***,the true interplay between the clinical and molecular components of MAFLD progression remain only partly *** recently,multiomics-based strategies are being adopted for hypothesis-free analysis of the molecular changes in *** profiling maps the unique genotype-phenotype associations in MAFLD and with various single-cell tran scriptome-based projects underway,there is hope of novel physiological insigh

Purpose We quantified the chronological age and performance of Paralympic powerlifters competing at the elite level in the World Championships(WC)and Paralympic Games(PG),and examined the age-related differences between sexes,weight categories,and competition *** This was a retrospective study involving 3107 athletes who took part in the last eight WC and six *** pow-erlifters were divided by sex,chronological age,weight category,and competition *** Overall,males were older(33 years)and stronger(lifting 168 kg)than female(32 years and lifting 96 kg,respec-tively)para powerlifters(P<0.05).Male and female para powerlifters lifted heavier loads in the PG(174 and 103 kg,respectively)than in WC(163 and 93 kg,respectively)and medallists were younger(31 and 30 years for females and males,respectively)than non-medallists(33 and 32 years for females and males,respectively)(P<0.05).Para powerlifters compet-ing in lighter categories were younger when compared to heavier categories(P<0.05),but their relative load was heavier compared to heavier competitors(P<0.05).Conclusion Our results show that medallists were younger(31 and 30 years)than non-medallists(33 and 32 years)for females and males,respectively.
