The performances of Particle Swarm Optimization and Genetic Algorithm have been compared to develop a methodology for concurrent and integrated design of mechanical structure and controller of a 2-dof robotic manipulator solving tracking problems. The proposed design scheme optimizes various parameters belonging to different domains (that is, link geometry, mass distribution, moment of inertia, control gains) concurrently to design manipulator, which can track some given paths accurately with a minimum power consumption. The main strength of this study lies with the design of an integrated scheme to solve the above problem. Both real-coded Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization are used to solve this complex optimization problem. Four approaches have been developed and their performances are compared. Particle Swarm Optimization is found to perform better than the Genetic Algorithm, as the former carries out both global and local searches simultaneously, whereas the latter concentrates mainly on the global search. controllers with adaptive gain values have shown better performance compared to the conventional ones, as expected.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis(HLH)is an uncommon,potentially life threatening,hyper inflammatory syndrome of diverse *** signs include prolonged fever,organomegaly,and persistent unexplained *** spite of the well known diagnostic criteria put forth by HLH society,this continues to pose great diagnostic challenge in both pediatric and adult intensive care *** describe 4 adult(2 males,2 females,aged 19,29,40,and 17 years)and 3 pediatric(2 males,1female,aged 1 month,6 months,and 12 years)patients with secondary HLH who satisfied the HLH-2004 diagnostic *** evidence of hemophagocytosis was noted in 4 patients on initial bone marrow *** underlying etiologies were as follows:Rickettsia tsutsugamushi(case 1),autoimmune disorder(case 2),systemic onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis(sJIA)(case 3),unknown bite(possibly a venomous snake)(case 4),Plasmodium vivax(case 5),cytomegalo virus(case 6),and Mycobacterium tuberculosis(case 7).In one patient,hemophagocytosis was presumed to have been exacerbated by administration of granulocyte monocyte colony stimulating factor(GM-cSF)for severe *** patients died with disseminated intravascular coagulation(DIc)and multi organ failure within few days of HLH *** therapy was started in 3 patients,and etoposide was started in one patient *** to lack of specificity of diagnostic criteria,diagnosing and differentiating HLH from its closest mimickers like sepsis/septic shock may be quite challenging in critically ill ***,increasing awareness among physicians is essential for early diagnosis and effective therapy to reduce the mortality.

Objective: The current study evaluated various new colchicine analogs for their anticancer activity and to study the primary mechanism of apoptosis and in vivo antitumor activity of the analogs with selective anticancer properties and minimal toxicity to normal ***: Sulforhodamine B(SRB) assay was used to screen various colchicine analogs for their in vitro cytotoxicity. The effect of N-[(7S)-1,2,3-trimethoxy-9-oxo-10-(pyrrolidine-1-yl)5,6,7,9-tetrahydrobenzo[a] heptalene-7-yl] acetamide(ⅢM-067) on clonogenicity, apoptotic induction, and invasiveness of A549 cells was determined using a clonogenic assay, scratch assay, and staining with 4’,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole(DAPI) and annexin V/propidium iodide. Mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP) and reactive oxygen species(ROS) levels were observed using fluorescence microscopy. Western blot analysis was used to quantify expression of proteins involved in apoptosis, cell cycle, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3k)/protein kinase B(AkT)/mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR) signaling. Pharmacokinetic and in vivo efficacy studies against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAc) and Ehrlich solid tumor models were conducted using Swiss albino ***: ⅢM-067 showed potent cytotoxicity and better selectivity than all other colchicine analogs screened in this study. The selective activity of ⅢM-067 toward A549 cells was higher among other cancer cell lines,with a selectivity index(SI) value of 2.28. ⅢM-067 demonstrated concentration-and time-dependent cytotoxicity against A549 cells with half-maximal inhibitory concentration values of 0.207, 0.150 and0.106 μmol/L at 24, 48 and 72 h, respectively. It also had reduced toxicity to normal cells(SI > 1) than the parent compound colchicine(SI = 1). ⅢM-067 reduced the clonogenic ability of A549 cells in a dose-dependent manner. ⅢM-067 enhanced ROS production from 24.6% at 0.05 μmol/L to 82.1% at 0.4 μmol/L and substantially decreased the MMP(100% in control to 5.6% at 0.4 μmol

The Linz-Donawitz（LD） steelmaking process produces LD slag at a rate of about 125 kg/t. After metallic scrap recovery, the non-metallic LD slag is rejected because its physical/chemical properties are unsuitable for recycling. X-ray diffraction（XRD） studies have indicated that non-metallic LD slag contains a substantial quantity of mineral phases such as di- and tricalcium silicates. The availability of these mineral phases indicates that LD slag can be recycled by iron（Fe）-ore sintering. However, the presence of 1.2wt% phosphorus（P） in the slag renders the material unsuitable for sintering operations. Electron probe microscopic analysis（EPMA） studies indicated concentration of phosphorus in dicalcium silicate phase as calcium phosphate. The Fe-bearing phases（i.e., wustite and dicalcium ferrite） showed comparatively lower concentrations of P compared with other phases in the slag. Attempts were made to lower the P content of LD slag by adopting various beneficiation techniques. Dry high-intensity magnetic separation and jigging were performed on as-received samples with particle sizes of 6 and 3 mm. Spiral separation was conducted using samples ground to sizes of less than 1 and 0.5 mm. among these studies, grinding to 0.5 mm followed by spiral concentration demonstrated the best results, yielding a concentrate with about 0.75wt% P and 45wt% Fe.

Objective:An attempt was made to study the use of papaya pulp powder as a disintegrant in tablet formulations. comparison of Survey Sampling Methods for Estimation of Vaccination coverage in an Urban Setup of Assam, India

Background: Immunization averts a large number of children in each year. The burden of vaccine preventable diseases remains high in developing countries compared to developed countries. To overcome from this burden different types of immunization programs have been implemented. For better immunization coverage in developing countries, considerable progress is to be made to improve the knowledge and awareness regarding importance of vaccines. In this study a compara-tive study of immunization coverage under two sampling methods has been performed. Methods: In this study variance and design effect of proportion of children vaccinated against different types of vaccines (BcG, OPV, DPT, Hepatitis B, Hib, Measles and MMR) are estimated under two stage (30 × 30) cluster and systematic sampling for comparison of these two survey sampling methods. Also the homogeneity of clusters has been tested by using chi-square test. Results: It is observed that BcG, OPV and DPT vaccination coverage is more than 90% whereas Hepatitis B, Measles, Hib and MMR vaccination coverage is between 50% - 64% only. Here systematic random sampling is more complicated than two stage (30 × 30) cluster sampling. Also the result shows that the clusters are homogeneous with respect to proportion of children vaccinated. conclusion: There is no significant difference between the two survey methodologies regarding the point estimation of vaccination coverage but estimation of variances of vaccination coverage is less in two stage (30 × 30) cluster sampling than that of the systematic sampling. Also the clusters are homogeneous. Very less improvement has been observed in case of fully vaccination coverage than the previous study. From the study it can be said that two stage (30 × 30) cluster sampling will be preferred to systematic sampling and simple random sampling method.

Introduction: Low birth weight (LBW) is the dominating risk factor for infant morbidity and mortality. LBW infants were three times more likely than normal birth weight infants to have neuro developmental complications and congenital abnormalities. The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined the term Low Birth Weight (LBW) as birth weight less than 2500 grams. Objective: To develop epidemiological model investigating the association between mother’s nutritional status and low birth weight in India. Data and Methods: Third round of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-3) data collected during 2005-2006 is used for this study. This data provides a comprehensive picture of population and health conditions in India. To check the association between variables coefficient of contingency was calculated and multivariable logistic regression model was applied to check independent effect of covariates. Univariate, bivariate and multivariable logistics regression model has been developed to investigate the association between mother’s nutritional status and low birth weight in India. Adjusted odds ratios were calculated with 95% confidence interval. conclusion: The prevalence of low birth weight was observed high among those women who were underweight, anemic, never visited for any ANc checkup. Emphasis needs to be given to maternal nutritional factors which are more persistent across India than the impact of other factors on birth weight. This can be done by selectively targeting interventions to improve nutrition.
