Background and object.ve: Chronic rhinosinusit.s (CRS), a common disease worldwide, has a major impact.on pat.ent.’ qualit. of life (QoL). In recent.years, t.e measurement.of healt.-relat.d QoL has made it.possible t. assess t.e pat.ent.s st.t. of healt., t.e severit. of t.e CRS and t.e t.eat.ent. t.e aim of t.is st.dy was t. assess t.e QoL of pat.ent. wit. CRS in a hospit.l set.ing in Kinshasa. Met.ods: t.is was a cross-sect.onal analyt.cal st.dy conduct.d from June 2020 t. May 2021 in t.e Ent.service of t.e Kinshasa Universit. Hospit.l and t.e Monkole Hospit.l Cent.r. t.e st.dy involved 113 pat.ent. aged at.least.18 years, whose QOL was compared wit. t.at.of a cont.ol group consist.ng of 100 non-pat.ent.. QOL was assessed using t.e Sino-nasal Out.ome t.st.(SnOt.22) Quest.onnaire. Result.: t.e mean age of t.e pat.ent. was 41.0 years (18 - 74 years) and t.at.of t.e cont.ols was 39.1 years (19 - 77 years). More t.an half of t.e part.cipant. were universit. graduat.s. t.e median SnOt.22 score was 44 (14 - 78) in pat.ent. and 7 (1 - 40) in cont.ols. Compared wit. subject. wit.out.CRS, pat.ent. wit. CRS had significant.y higher scores in all four domains of t.e SnOt.22. Around 9 out.of 10 pat.ent. had a severely impaired QoL compared wit. 2 out.of 10 cont.ols. Considering mildly impaired QoL, we found t.at.in t.e ot.logical and sleep domains, scores were not.significant.y different.bet.een pat.ent. and cont.ols. In t.e case of severely impaired QoL, however, only t.e ot.logical domain showed a non-significant.difference in scores bet.een t.e t.o groups. Conclusion: CRS is a real public healt. problem in our environment.and significant.y alt.rs t.e QoL of pat.ent. suffering from it. wit. repercussions on t.eir professional product.vit.;hence t.e need for bet.er management.

Background: t.e Democrat.c Republic of t.e Congo (DRC) faces severe malaria, post.art.m haemorrhage, malnut.it.on and sickle cell disease t.at.require t.ansfusion. t.e lat.er poses immunological, infect.ous, met.bolic and hemodynamic risks t. recipient.. Object.ve: t. present.t.ansfusion safet. in t.e DRC t.rough dat. from t.e lit.rat.re. Met.ods: t.is review consist. of list.ng t.e various art.cles and abst.act. published online and present.d in scient.fic conferences having as a subject.of int.rest.t.ansfusion safet. in t.e DRC. Result.: t.e review is dominat.d by art.cles from east.rn DRC and blood mobilizat.on is around 0.5% of t.e general populat.on. All screening t.st. are serological wit. a proven residual risk. t.e prevalence of HIV, HBV, HCV and syphilis infect.ons is document.d at.more t.an 80% and represent. respect.vely 1.9%, 2.96%, 1.89% and 1.21%. t.e prevalence of ot.er pat.ogens, t.e immunological and haemodynamic risk are very poorly document.d (12.5% t. 25%). t.e prevalence of Parvovirus B19 infect.on is 5.3% and t.at.of bact.rial cont.minat.on at.1.4%, t.at.of malaria infest.t.ons bet.een 0.3% and 28.3%, t.at.of t.ypanosomiasis at.1.3%, t.at.of babebiosis at.0.17% in blood donors. Allo-immunizat.on represent. 47.8%, adverse react.ons 3.4%, iron deficiency 63.2, iron deficiency anemia 25.9% and anemia 36.5%. Pediat.ics is t.e biggest.user of t.is blood. Conclusion: t.e prevalence of HIV, HBV, HCV and Syphilis infect.ons is wit.in t.e range of sub-Saharan African count.ies. t.e serological t.st.is syst.mat.c and involves t.e residual risk, it.is necessary t. int.oduce t.e molecular t.st.. t.e prevalence of ot.er pat.ogens (emerging viruses, bact.ria and hemoparasit.s), t.e immunological and met.bolic risk is poorly document.d. t.e search for t.ese pat.ogens, irregular ant.bodies and t.e det.rminat.on of ferrit.n in blood donat.ons is not.syst.mat.c.

Background: Dat. on t.e serum vit.min D3 levels of vernal kerat.conjunct.vit.s (VKC) children are not.known well in Cent.al Africa. Children wit. vernal kerat.conjunct.vit.s are less exposed t. sunlight. t.ere is no st.dy t.at.shows t.e breadt. of t.e serum vit.min D3 levels of vernal kerat.conjunct.vit.s children and normal in our set.ing. Purpose: t.is st.dy aimed t. compare t.e serum 25-hydroxy vit.min D [25(OH)D3] levels of children wit. and wit.out.VKC. Met.ods: An observat.onal, case-cont.ol st.dy was performed from Sept.mber 2019 t. February 2020 in t.e Opht.almology Depart.ent.and t.e Clinical Biology Depart.ent.of t.e Universit. Hospit.l of Kinshasa. t.e case group was recruit.d consecut.vely in t.e consult.t.on while t.e cont.ol group was enrolled in t.e nearest.Rehobot. school complex using a syst.mat.c sample met.od (k = 4) on t.e presence regist.r. Bot. cases and cont.ols underwent.t.e rout.ne opht.almological examinat.on of t.e ant.rior segment.and serum vit.min D3 levels were measured in bot. cases and cont.ols using Mindray Chimic-Luminescence (CL)-1200i. Dat. were ent.red in Microsoft.Sheet. and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. t.e Mann-Whit.ey-U t.st.(M-U), and t.e t.St.dent.t.st.were used respect.vely t. compare t.e mean serum vit.min D3 levels in bot. cases and cont.ols. t.e correlat.on of Spearman (rho) was used t. det.rmine t.e associat.on bet.een Body Mass Index and serum vit.min D3 levels in t.e case group. Result.: A t.t.l of 75 children wit. VKC (mean age 7.8 ± 4.4 years) and 75 children wit.out.VKC non-at.pic cont.ol group (mean age 7.9 ± 4.3 years) were enrolled in t.is st.dy. t.e vit.min D3 deficiency was more frequent.among t.e case group t.an in t.e cont.ol group (40% vs 8%, p = 0.0001). Vit.min D3 insufficiency was more frequent.in t.e case group t.an in t.e cont.ol group (33.3% vs 18.6%, p = 0.04). t.e mean serum vit.min 25(OH)D3 levels were st.t.st.cally lower in children wit. Background and Purpose: Our st.dy examined t.e effect.of ambient.noise on hearing and school performance in children wit. hearing loss, and t.e relat.onship bet.een hearing loss and cognit.on. Met.od: A pilot.st.dy involving 728 people (aged 11 t. 16 years) was conduct.d in Kinshasa, Democrat.c Republic of t.e Congo. All part.cipant. complet.d t.e EnAFEP t.st. t.e SIFt.R short.scale, pure t.ne audiomet.y, and a t.ree-digit.t.st. t.achers and invest.gat.rs complet.d a 6-day list.ning t.aining course. Result.: Correlat.on and st.uct.ral equat.on modeling indicat.d t.at.ambient.noise and five cognit.ve domains were associat.d wit. hearing in noise, but.only unmeasured cognit.on was associat.d wit. hearing loss and poor academic performance. Cognit.ve compensat.on significant.y reduces communicat.on problems and improves concent.at.on and academic performance. noise and deafness had significant.and moderat. effect. on academic performance (r = -0.13). Conclusion: t.e sample size and relat.vely high part.cipat.on rat. meant.t.e st.dy was represent.t.ve. However, t.e result. showed an associat.on bet.een ambient.noise, hearing loss and cognit.on, and reduced school performance. Large-scale randomized int.rvent.ons for hearing loss and long-t.rm noise exposure st.dies are needed t. measure cognit.ve out.omes aft.r short. and mult.-year noise exposure.

Aims: t.e aim of t.e present.st.dy was t. det.rmine t.e root.canal lengt. of t.et. of Bant. pat.ent. ext.act. at.ending t.e t.aching Hospit.l of Kinshasa Universit.. Met.ods and Mat.rial: Prospect.ve cross-sect.onal st.dy was carried out.in t.e service of Conservat.ve Dent.st.y. t.e pat.ent. suffering wit. pulpit.s of permanent.t.et. which were select.d for root.canal t.eat.ent.during t.e period of January 2014 t. December 2016 were included. All pat.ent. whose main root.canals were inaccessible, t.et. carrying prost.esis, t.et. wit. large coronal decay, t.et. having periapical periodont.t.s, supernumerary t.et., wisdom and primary t.et. were excluded. Result.: t.e upper canines present.d some significant.longer canals compared t. t.e lower canine (23.4 ± 2.3 mm and 21.6 ± 1.8 mm). Palat.l canals of t.e first.and second molar were respect.vely longer as compared t. t.e superior t.et. canals (21.5 ± 1 mm, 21.3 ± 2 mm). t.e dist.l canals of t.e first.and second molar were t.e longest.in t.e mandibular arch respect.vely measuring 20.7 ± 2.0 mm and 21.5 ± 1.7 mm. Conclusion: Dat. obt.ined from Bant. pat.ent. show slight.y short.r root. compared t. some European populat.ons, but.longer t.an some Asian populat.ons.
