Single application of high-intensity focused ultrasound as primary therapy of localized prostate cancer:Treatment-related predictors of biochemical outcomes

Objective:Recent reports on high-intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU)treatment of localized prostate cancer suggest that preoperative risk groups of tumor recurrence are strong predictors of oncological *** purpose of this study is to determine the prognostic significance of treatment-related factors in relation to patient characteristics for biochemical outcomes after ***:This retrospective single-center study included patients treated from December 2002 to December 2010 for localized prostate cancer with two generations of AblathermHIFU devices(A1 and A2).All the patients underwent single HIFU treatment session under the concept of whole-gland *** surgery was performed before HIFU to downsize enlarged *** deprivation therapy(ADT)was discontinued before *** failure(BCF)was defined as prostate specific antigen(PSA)nadir t 1.2 ng/mL(Stuttgart definition).Predictors of BCF were determined using Cox regression *** covariates,patient-related factors(age,tumor characteristics,ADT)were compared with treatmentrelated factors(prostate volume,HIFU device generation,conduct of therapy,prostate edema,patient movement,anesthetic modalities).Results:Three hundred and twenty-three(98.8%)out of 327 consecutive patients were evaluable for ***(interquartile range)follow-up was 51.2(36.6e80.4)*** overall BCF-rate was 23.8%.In multivariate analyses,higher initial PSA-values(Hazard ratio[HR]:1.03;p<0.001)and higher D’Amico risk stages(HR:3.45;p<0.001)were patient-related predictors of *** treatment-related factors,the A2 HIFU device was associated with a decreased risk of BCF(HR:0.51;p Z 0.007),while prostate edema had an adverse effect(HR:1.8;p Z 0.027).Short follow-up and retrospective study design are the primary ***:Success in a single HIFU session depends not merely on tumor characteristics,but also on treatment-related *** is more efficacious with the technically a

Multiple sclerosis(MS)is an autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system(CNS)and is primarily characterized by immune cell infiltration leading to relapses followed by remission phases and a disease course turning progressive over time with neurodegenerative processes taking over(Amin and Hersh,2023).Of note,beyond relapse-associated worsening early in disease progression independent of relapse activity may arise independently of relapse activity and can occur in all ***-mediated damage of myelin sheaths and the subsequent loss of mature oligodendrocytes are resulting in impaired axonal integrity,neurodegeneration and accounts for irreversible neuronal damage(Kuhlmann et al.,2023).The current landscape of available disease-modifying therapies comprises mainly immunomodulatory drugs that effectively diminish relapses and slow down progression at the onset form of the disease,namely relapsing MS(RMS).In this regard,a number of drugs have been approved as disease-modifying therapies for MS by US Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agencies(Box 1).

This work shows the synthesis,characterization and evaluation of dense-ceramic membranes made of Ce_(0.85)Gd_(0.15)O_(2-δ)-LaNiO_(3)(CG-LN)composites,where the fluorite-perovskite ratio(CG:LN)was varied as follows:75:25,80:20 and 85:15 wt.%.Supports were initially characterized by XRD,SEM and electrical conductivity(using vacuum and oxygen atmospheres),to determine the composition,microstructural and ionic-electronic conductivity ***,supports were infiltrated with an eutectic carbonates mixture,producing the corresponding dense dual-phase membranes,in which CO_(2)permeation tests were ***,CO_(2)permeation experiments were performed from 900 to 700℃,in the presence and absence of oxygen(flowed in the sweep membrane side).Results showed that these composites possess high CO_(2)permeation properties,where the O_(2)addition significantly improves the ionic conduction on the sweep membrane ***,the GC80-LN20 composition presented the best results due to the following physicochemical characteristics:high electronic and ionic conductivity,appropriate porosity,interconnected porous channels,as well as thermal and chemical stabilities between the composite support and carbonate phases.

Systematic Evaluation of Current Possibilities to Determine Left Ventricular Volumes by Echocardiography in Patients after Myocardial Infarction

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy for quantification of left ventricular (LV) volumes and LV ejection fraction (LVEF) with current echocardiographic methods of planimetry for analysis of LV remodeling after myocardial infarction in daily clinical routine. Methods: 26 patients were investigated directly after interventional therapy at hospital pre-discharge and at 6 month follow-up. Standardized 2D transthoracic native and contrast echocardiography were performed in all patients. Due to methodological aspects the results of LV volumes and LVEF using native echocardiography were compared to the results of LV opacification (LVO) imaging for analysis in mono-, bi- and triplane data sets using the Simpson’s rule. In addition corresponding multidimensional data sets were analyzed. Results: The assessment of LV volumes and LVEF is more accurate with contrast echocardiography. The comparison of LV volumes and LVEF shows significant increases using contrast echocardiography (p < 0.001). Larger left ventricular end-diastolic volumes (LVEDV) are measured at follow up (p < 0.05). Significant differences (p < 0.001) are found for the determination of LVEDV and LVEF relating to apical mono-, bi-, tri- and multiplane data sets. Standard deviations of the triplane approach, however, are significantly lower than using other modalities. Conclusion: Depending on the localization of the myocardial infarction LV volumes and LVEF are less reliably evaluated using the mono- or biplane approach. According to standardization and simultaneous acquisition of all LV wall segments the triplane approach is currently the best approach to determine LV systolic function. In addition, contrast echocardiography is indicated to improve endocardial border delineation in patients using the triplane or multiplane approach. Fluoride ions adsorption from water by CaCO_(3)enhanced Mn-Fe mixed metal oxides

Novel CaCO_(3)-enhanced Mn-Fe mixed metal oxides(CMFC)were successfully prepared for the first time by a simple-green hydrothermal strategy without any surfactant or template combined with calcination *** oxides were then employed as an adsorbent for adsorptive removal of excess fluoride *** adsorbent was characterized by SEM,XPS,XRD,FTIR,and BET analysis *** adsorption property of CMFC toward fluoride ion was analyzed by batch *** fact,CMFC exhibited adsorption capacity of 227.3 mg∙g^(-1)toward fluoride *** showed that ion exchange,electrostatic attraction and chemical adsorption were the main mechanism for the adhesion of large amount of fluoride ion on the CMFC surface,and the high adsorption capacity responded to the low pH of the adsorption *** the fluoride ion concentration was increased from 20 to 200 mg∙L^(-1),Langmuir model was more in line with experimental *** change of fluoride ion adsorption with respect to time was accurately described by pseudosecond-order *** five cycles of use,the adsorbent still maintains a performance of 70.6%of efficiency,compared to the fresh ***,this material may act as a potential candidate for adsorbent with broad range of application prospects.
