Selenium is an essential trace mineral important for the maintenance of homeostasis in animals and *** evinces a strong antioxidant,anti-inflammatory and potential antimicrobial *** biological function is primarily achieved by its presence in selenoproteins as a form of *** deficiency may result in an array of health disorders,affecting many organs and systems;to prevent this,dietary supplementation,mainly in the forms of organic(i.e.,selenomethionine and selenocysteine)inorganic(i.e.,selenate and selenite)sources is *** pigs as well as other food animals,dietary selenium supplementation has been used for improving growth performance,immune function,and meat quality.A substantial body of knowledge demonstrates that dietary selenium supplementation is positively associated with overall animal health especially due to its immunomodulatory activity and protection from oxidative *** also possesses potential antiviral activity and this is achieved by protecting immune cells against oxidative damage and decreasing viral *** this review we endeavor to combine established and novel knowledge on the beneficial effects of dietary selenium supplementation,its antioxidant and immunomodulatory actions,and the putative antimicrobial effect ***,our review demonstrates the gaps in knowledge pertaining to the use of selenium as an antiviral,underscoring the need for further in vivo and in vitro studies,particularly in pigs.

Concern about global warming calls for an advanced approach for designing an energy system to reduce carbon emissions as well as to secure energy security for each *** energy systems tend to introduce different technologies with high conversion efficiency,leading to a higher average *** energy systems can be achieved not by an aggregate form of conversion technologies but by an innovative system design *** concept of LCS(low carbon society) is a unique approach having multi-dimensional considerations such as social,economic and environmental *** LCS aims at an extensive restructuring of worldwide energy supply/demand network system by not only replacing the conventional parts with the new ones,but also integrating all the necessary components and designing absolutely different energy *** a core tool for the LCS design,energy-economic models are applied to show feasible solutions in future with alternatives such as renewable resources,combined heat and power,and smart grid *** can introduce changes in energy markets,technology learning in capacity,and penetration of innovative technologies,leading to an optimum system configuration under priority *** paper describes recent trials of energy models application related to waste-to-energy,clean coal,transportation and rural *** the modelling approach is still under investigation,the output clearly shows possible options having variety of technologies and linkages between supply and demand *** of the LCS means an energy systems design with the modelling approach,which gives solution for complex systems,choices among technologies,technology feasibility,R&D targets,and what we need to start.

Chemical Dynamics Simulations of the Hydroxyl Radical Reaction with Ethene

We present a theoretical study of the reaction of the hydroxyl radical with ethene using electronic structure calculations and direct-dynamics simulations. High-accuracy electronic structure calculations at the CCSD（T）/aug-cc-pVTZ//MP2/aug-ce-pVDZ level have been carried out to characterize the representative regions of the potential energy surface of various reaction pathways, including OH-addition and H-abstraction. These ab initio calculations have been employed to derive an improved set of parameters for the MSINDO semiempirieal Hamiltonian specific to the OH＋C2H4 reaction. The specific-reaction-parameter Hamilto- nian captures the ab initio data accurately, and has been used to perform direct quasiclassica] trajectory simulations of the OH＋C2H4 reaction at collision energies in the range of 2-10 kcal/mol. The calculated cross sections reveal that the OH-addition reaction domi- nates at all energies over H-abstraction. In addition, the excitation function of addition is reminiscent of a barrierless capture process, while that for abstraction corresponds to an activated one, and these trends can be connected to the transition-state energies of both reactions. We note that the development of an accurate semiempirical Hamiltonian for the OH＋C2H4 reaction in this work required the inclusion of empirical dispersion corrections, which will be important in future applications for which long-range intermoleeular attraction becomes significant.

Abscisic acid(ABA)is an important hormone that regulates both plant development and stress responses(Chen et al.,2020).In the absence of ABA,group A PROTEIN PHOSPHATASE 2Cs(PP2Cs)interact with and inhibit SUCROSE-NON-FERMENTING 1-RELATED KINASES 2(SnRK2s).When ABA is present,ABA receptor PYRABACTIN RESISTANCE 1 and PYRABACTIN RESISTANCE 1-LIKE PROTEINS bind to and inhibit PP2Cs,allowing phosphorylation and activation of SnRK2s that,in turn,phosphorylate downstream targets,such as transcription factors,ion channels,and transporters(Figure 1).

FusionMLS:Highly dynamic 3D reconstruction with consumergrade RGB-D cameras

Multi-view dynamic three-dimensional reconstruction has typically required the use of custom shutter-synchronized camera rigs in order to capture scenes containing rapid movements or complex topology changes. In this paper, we demonstrate that multiple unsynchronized low-cost RGB-D cameras can be used for the same purpose. To alleviate issues caused by unsynchronized shutters, we propose a novel depth frame interpolation technique that allows synchronized data capture from highly dynamic 3 D scenes. To manage the resulting huge number of input depth images, we also introduce an efficient moving least squares-based volumetric reconstruction method that generates triangle meshes of the scene. Our approach does not store the reconstruction volume in memory,making it memory-efficient and scalable to large *** implementation is completely GPU based and works in real time. The results shown herein, obtained with real data, demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method and its advantages compared to stateof-the-art approaches.

Hole-nesting tits belonging to the family Paridae produce a hissing display that resembles the exhalatory hiss of a *** a predatory animal enters the nest hole of a tit,tits often hiss vigorously,while lunging their head forward and shaking their wings and tail,until the intruder *** assessed the acoustic similarity between such hiss calls from 6 species of tits,snake hisses,and tit syllables used in alarm vocalizations,as well as white noise as a *** hiss calls showed a high degree of similarity with snake hisses from 3 different snake *** hisses had lower similarity to syllable alarm calls,suggesting convergence of tit hisses in their spectral *** calls would only be effective in protecting nest boxes if nest predators responded to these *** order to test this hypothesis,we trained individual Swinhoe’s striped squirrels,Tamiops swinhoei hainanus,a common predator of egg and nestling tits,to feed at feeders in proximity to nest *** compared the aversive response of squirrels to tit’s hiss calls and white noise,presented in random *** showed a higher degree of avoidance of feeders when hiss calls were played back than when white noise was *** conclusion,our study suggests that hole-nesting birds have evolved convergent snake-like hiss calls,and that predators avoid to prey on the contents of nest boxes from which snake-like hisses emerge.

Structure–activity relationship in Ti phosphate-derived photocatalysts for H2 evolution

Photocatalytic Hproduction has emerged as one of the most clean and promising renewable energy sources. In spite of the efforts to obtain efficient photocatalysts able to produce Hfrom Sun light and water, there is still the need to prepare cheaper and environmental friendlier photocatalysts. Phosphatebased materials could be good candidates to fulfill these requirements. In this manuscript we have prepared a set of mixed Ti/Tivalence, open-framework titanium phosphates（of-TiPO） and mixed titanium oxide/phosphate derivatives（cr-Ti P）, correlating their structure and composition with the photocatalytic activity for Hproduction. We determined that mixed titanium oxide/phosphate crystalline phases produced enhanced Hevolution under Sun simulated light irradiation than mixed Ti/Tivalence, open-framework titanium phosphates and titanium oxide phases.

A Script-Based Prototyping Framework to Boost Agile-UX Developments

Prototypes are described as a successful mechanism to incorporate user-experience design （UX） into Agile de- velopments, but their integration into such developments is not exempt from difficulties. Prototypes and final applications are often developed using different tools, which hinders the collaboration between designers and developers and also compli- cates reuse. Moreover, integrating stakeholders such as clients and users into the Agile process of designing, evaluating, and refining a prototype is not straightforward mainly because of its iterative nature. In an attempt to tackle these problems, this work presents the design and implementation of a new framework in which scripting languages are used to code prototyped behaviors. Prototyping is then treated as a separate aspect that coexists and runs together with final functionality. Using this framework communication is enhanced because designers and developers work in parallel on the same software artifact. Prototypes are fully reused and iteratively added with final functionality while prototyped behaviors are removed. They can be also modified on the fly to implement participatory design techniques.

A Discrete Element Method model,including interparticle cohesive forces,was calibrated and validated to develop a tool to predict the powder layer’s quality in the powder bed fusion *** elastic contact model was used to describe cohesive interparticle *** surface energy of the model particles was estimated by assuming that the pull-off force should provide the strength of the material evaluated at low consolidation with shear test *** particle rolling friction was calibrated considering the bulk density of the layer produced by the spreading *** model was validated with the experiments by comparing the wavelet power spectra obtained with the simulations with those of the experimental layers illuminated by grazing *** calibration proposed in this study demonstrated superior performance compared to our previous methods,which relied on measuring the angle of repose and unconfined yield strength.

Peptide aptamers:The versatile role of specific protein function inhibitors in plant biotechnology

In recent years, peptide aptamers have emerged as novel molecular tools that have attracted the attention of researchers in various fields of basic and applied science, ranging from medicine to analytical chemistry. These artificial short peptides are able to specifically bind, track, and inhibit a given target molecule with high affinity, even molecules with poor immunogenicity or high toxicity, and represent a remarkable alternative to antibodies in many different applications. Their use is on the rise, driven mainly by the medical and pharmaceutical sector. Here we discuss the enormous potential of peptide aptamers in both basic and applied aspects of plant biotechnology and food safety. The different peptide aptamer selection methods available both in vivo and in vitro are introduced, and the most important possible applications in plant biotechnology are illustrated. In particular, we discuss the generation of broad- based virus resistance in crops, ＂reverse genetics＂ and aptasensors in bioassays for detecting contaminations in food and feed. Furthermore, we suggest an alternative to the transfer of peptide aptamers into plant cells via genetic transformation, based on the use of cell-penetrating peptides that overcome the limits imposed by both crop transformation and Genetically Modified Organism commercialization.
