We study the problem of a temporal discontinuity in the permittivity of an unbounded medium with Lorentzian dispersion. More specifically, we tackle the situation in which a monochromatic plane wave forward-traveling in a(generally lossy) Lorentzian-like medium scatters from the temporal interface that results from an instantaneous and homogeneous abrupt temporal change in its plasma frequency(while keeping its resonance frequency constant). In order to achieve momentum preservation across the temporal discontinuity, we show how, unlike in the well-known problem of a nondispersive discontinuity, the second-order nature of the dielectric function now gives rise to two shifted frequencies. As a consequence, whereas in the nondispersive scenario the continuity of the electric displacement D and the magnetic induction B suffices to find the amplitude of the new forward and backward wave, we now need two extra temporal boundary conditions. That is, two forward and two backward plane waves are now instantaneously generated in response to a forward-only plane wave. We also include a transmission-line equivalent with lumped circuit elements that describes the dispersive time-discontinuous scenario under consideration.

Dear Editor,We read,with great interest,the comprehensive review by Villavicencio Kim J and Wu GY that systematically addressed the issue of liver enzyme elevation in celiac disease(CD)patients.1 The Authors reviewed,in detail,the most relevant studies reporting the frequency of liver enzyme elevation in CD patients and the possible causes,discussing the hypothesis that this elevation may be a clue to associated liver disease or an epiphenomenon,possibly secondary to the increased intestinal permeability that is known to characterize CD patients,especially at diagnosis,before starting a gluten-free diet.

Selenium is an essential trace mineral important for the maintenance of homeostasis in animals and *** evinces a strong antioxidant,anti-inflammatory and potential antimicrobial *** biological function is primarily achieved by its presence in selenoproteins as a form of *** deficiency may result in an array of health disorders,affecting many organs and systems;to prevent this,dietary supplementation,mainly in the forms of organic(i.e.,selenomethionine and selenocysteine)inorganic(i.e.,selenate and selenite)sources is *** pigs as well as other food animals,dietary selenium supplementation has been used for improving growth performance,immune function,and meat quality.A substantial body of knowledge demonstrates that dietary selenium supplementation is positively associated with overall animal health especially due to its immunomodulatory activity and protection from oxidative *** also possesses potential antiviral activity and this is achieved by protecting immune cells against oxidative damage and decreasing viral *** this review we endeavor to combine established and novel knowledge on the beneficial effects of dietary selenium supplementation,its antioxidant and immunomodulatory actions,and the putative antimicrobial effect ***,our review demonstrates the gaps in knowledge pertaining to the use of selenium as an antiviral,underscoring the need for further in vivo and in vitro studies,particularly in pigs.

In this paper,we present our analysis of the non-cavitating and cavitating unsteady performances of the Potsdam Propeller Test Case(PPTC)in oblique *** our calculations,we used the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equation(RANSE)solver from the open-source OpenFOAM *** selected the homogeneous mixture approach to solve for multiphase flow with phase change,using the volume of fluid(VoF)approach to solve the multiphase flow and modeling the mass transfer between vapor and water with the Schnerr-Sauer *** the model results with the experimental measurements collected during the SecondWorkshop on Cavitation and Propeller Performance– SMP’15 enabled our assessment of the reliability of the open-source *** with the numerical data collected during the workshop enabled further analysis of the reliability of different flow solvers from which we produced an overview of recommended guidelines(mesh arrangements and solver setups)for accurate numerical prediction even in off-design ***,we propose a number of calculations using the boundary element method developed at the University of Genoa for assessing the reliability of this dated but still widely adopted approach for design and optimization in the preliminary stages of very demanding test cases.

Real-world evidence (RWE) is clinical evidence on a medical product’s safety and efficacy that is generated using real-world data (RWD) resulting from routine healthcare delivery. This study evaluates the clinical efficacy of amoxicillin + clavulanic acid in children with pharyngitis, acute otitis, or acute rhinosinusitis with suspected bacterial origin under normal office and home conditions. Methods: This was a real-life, prospective, observational, pharmacovigilance study. It included children of both sexes between 2 and 12 years old, with a diagnosis of Rhinopharyngitis (tonsillitis), Acute Otitis Media and Rhinosinusitis. The main effectiveness variable evaluated was reduction and time to resolution of symptoms. All patients received Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid suspension 600 mg/42.9 mg/5 mL at a dose of 90 mg/Kg/day in two doses, every 12 hours for 7 days. The evaluations were carried out at the beginning, at 72 hours (3rd day) and at 7 days. All patients underwent culture and antibiogram. Results: The majority of cultures were negative for pathogenic germs, suspecting unidentifiable germs, or viral etiology despite the rigorous selection of subjects following validated scores. The most frequently isolated germ was Staphylococcus aureus;growth of gram-negative bacteria was reported in 33.33% of the cultures. There was a significant improvement in symptoms in children with tonsillitis and rhinosinusitis from the first 72 hours of treatment, persisting until the 7 days. In the otitis media group, returning to normal by the tenth day. During the conduction of this investigation, no adverse effects associated with the prescribed therapy were reported.

Abscisic acid(ABA)is an important hormone that regulates both plant development and stress responses(Chen et al.,2020).In the absence of ABA,group A PROTEIN PHOSPHATASE 2Cs(PP2Cs)interact with and inhibit SUCROSE-NON-FERMENTING 1-RELATED KINASES 2(SnRK2s).When ABA is present,ABA receptor PYRABACTIN RESISTANCE 1 and PYRABACTIN RESISTANCE 1-LIKE PROTEINS bind to and inhibit PP2Cs,allowing phosphorylation and activation of SnRK2s that,in turn,phosphorylate downstream targets,such as transcription factors,ion channels,and transporters(Figure 1).

We present a theoretical study of the reaction of the hydroxyl radical with ethene using electronic structure calculations and direct-dynamics simulations. High-accuracy electronic structure calculations at the CCSD（T）/aug-cc-pVTZ//MP2/aug-ce-pVDZ level have been carried out to characterize the representative regions of the potential energy surface of various reaction pathways, including OH-addition and H-abstraction. These ab initio calculations have been employed to derive an improved set of parameters for the MSINDO semiempirieal Hamiltonian specific to the OH＋C2H4 reaction. The specific-reaction-parameter Hamilto- nian captures the ab initio data accurately, and has been used to perform direct quasiclassica] trajectory simulations of the OH＋C2H4 reaction at collision energies in the range of 2-10 kcal/mol. The calculated cross sections reveal that the OH-addition reaction domi- nates at all energies over H-abstraction. In addition, the excitation function of addition is reminiscent of a barrierless capture process, while that for abstraction corresponds to an activated one, and these trends can be connected to the transition-state energies of both reactions. We note that the development of an accurate semiempirical Hamiltonian for the OH＋C2H4 reaction in this work required the inclusion of empirical dispersion corrections, which will be important in future applications for which long-range intermoleeular attraction becomes significant.

Photocatalytic Hproduction has emerged as one of the most clean and promising renewable energy sources. In spite of the efforts to obtain efficient photocatalysts able to produce Hfrom Sun light and water, there is still the need to prepare cheaper and environmental friendlier photocatalysts. Phosphatebased materials could be good candidates to fulfill these requirements. In this manuscript we have prepared a set of mixed Ti/Tivalence, open-framework titanium phosphates（of-TiPO） and mixed titanium oxide/phosphate derivatives（cr-Ti P）, correlating their structure and composition with the photocatalytic activity for Hproduction. We determined that mixed titanium oxide/phosphate crystalline phases produced enhanced Hevolution under Sun simulated light irradiation than mixed Ti/Tivalence, open-framework titanium phosphates and titanium oxide phases.
