The creation of the new“Ferry-Free Coastal Highway Route E39”in southwest Norway entails the production of a remarkable quantity of crushed *** resources could be beneficially employed as aggregates in the unbound courses of the highway itself or other road pavements present *** innovative stabilizing agents,organosilane and lignosulfonate,can significantly enhance the key properties,namely,resilient modulus and resistance against permanent deformation,of the aggregates that are excessively weak in their natural *** beneficial effect offered by the additives was thoroughly evaluated by performing repeated load triaxial *** study adopted the most common numerical models to describe these two key mechanical *** increase in the resilient modulus and reduction in the accumulated vertical permanent deformation show the beneficial impact of the ***,a finite element model was created to simulate the repeated load triaxial test by implementing nonlinear elastic and plastic constitutive relationships.

To advance organ-on-a-chip development and other areas befitting from physiologically-relevant biomembranes,a microfluidic platform is presented for synthesis of biomembranes during gelation and investigation into their role as extracellular matrix *** this work,high-throughput studies of collagen,chitosan,and collagen-chitosan hybrid biomembranes were carried out to characterize and compare key properties as a function of the applied hydrodynamic conditions during ***,depending on the biopolymer material used,varying flow conditions during biomembrane gelation caused width,uniformity,and swelling ratio to be differently affected and ***,cell viability studies of seeded fibroblasts were conducted,thus showing the potential for biological applications.

We report on the frictional properties of epitaxial graphene on SiC in ultra high *** have been performed using a microtribometer in the load regime of 0.5 to 1 *** observed that a ruby sphere sliding against graphene results in very low friction coefficients ranging from 0.02 to *** friction and also the stability of the graphene layer is higher than that under similar conditions in ambient *** friction shows a load *** it was found that graphene masks the frictional anisotropy which was observed on the SiC surface.

In this work, we present DUSM （Disciplined Use Cases with Screen Mockups）, a novel method for describing and refining requirements specifications based on disciplined use cases and screen mockups. Disciplined use cases are characterized by a quite stringent template to prevent common mistakes, and to increase the quality of the specifications. Use cases descriptions are formulated in a structured natural language, which allows to reach a good level of precision, avoiding the need for further notations and complex models. Screen mockups are precisely associated with the steps of the use cases scenarios and they present the corresponding GUIs （graphical user interfaces） as seen by the human actors before/after the steps executions, improving the comprehension and the expression of the non-functional requirements on the user interface. DUSM has been proposed and fine-tuned during several editions of a software engineering course at the University of Genova. Then, by means of a series of case studies and experiments, we validated the method and evaluated： 1） its effectiveness in improving the comprehension and, in general, the quality of the produced requirements specification, and 2） its applicability in the industry, where the method has been found useful and not particularly onerous.

Background:Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis(FSGS)is the most common glomerular condition leading to end-stage renal disease(ESRD)and the third most common cause of ESRD in pediatric ***:This is a retrospective study consisting of 22 pediatric patients with FSGS and heavy *** demonstrating steroids resistance,the patients were treated with tacrolimus,targeting a trough level 5-8 ng/*** primary outcome is the induction of remission with ***:Thirteen patients(59%)achieved remission(complete in 31.8%and partial in 27.2%)and 12 patients showed stable or improved renal function over an average follow-up of 2.9 years(range:0.5-7 years).There was no significant difference in response rate between African American and Caucasian *** of the patients had significant side-effect to tacrolimus and none of the repeat biopsies showed an increase in interstitial fibrosis compared to *** best renal outcome was for patients who achieved complete *** responsive patients had improved renal function compared with resistant ***:Tacrolimus is a viable option in the treatment of children with idiopathic steroid resistant FSGS.

Introduction Complex pediatric otolaryngology can be generally regarded as a subspecialty within otolaryngology focusing on the care of children with complex diseases of the head and neck and aerodigestive tract, or in some cases more common diseases in this anatomical region in otherwise medically complex children. This concept of the specialty was succinctly articulated by Charles Bluestone in 1995 when he wrote pediatric otolaryngologists treat 'special problems or special children, or both'.1 Increasingly, this care is delivered by multi-disciplinary pediatric health care providers working at highly specialized tertiary care centers for children. This review will briefly cover the historical evolution of the specialty's origins, along with its current state of graduate medical education training and sub-certification efforts.

Iron(Ⅱ) phthalocyanines(FePc) supported on functionalized nanostructured carbon materials have been studied as electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) in an alkaline medium. Herein, two types of carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have been explored as support, Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes and Herringbone Carbon Nanotubes(SWCNTs and h CNTs, respectively), both electrochemically modified with ortho-aminophenylphosphonic acid(2APPA), which provides phosphate axial coordinating ligands for the immobilization of FePc molecules. All the catalysts were prepared via a facile incipient wetness impregnation method. Comprehensive experimental analysis together with density functional theory(DFT) calculations has demonstrated both the importance of the five-coordinated Fe macrocycles that favor the interaction between the FePc and the carbon support, as well as the effect of the CNT structure in the ORR. FePc axial coordination provides a better dispersion, leading to higher stability and a favorable electron redistribution that also tunes the ORR performance by lowering the stability of the reaction intermediates. Interestingly, such improvement occurs with a very low content of metal(~1 wt% Fe),which is especially remarkable when h CNT support is employed. This work provides a novel strategy for the development of Fe-containing complexes as precious metal-free catalysts towards the ORR.

Pre-emergence herbicides affect seedling emergence of tropical forest tree species

Testing techniques to reduce weed infestation is a crucial step in developing direct tree seeding systems. The use of pre-emergence herbicides may be an alternative to manual weeding techniques, but so far, information on how they affect the seeds of native tree species is scarce. We established a greenhouse experiment to evaluate the effects of four pre-emergence herbicides (atrazine, diuron, isoxaflutole and oxyfluorfen) on weed suppression and seedling emergence and early growth of seven tropical forest tree species (Annona coriacea Mart., Citharexylum myrianthum Cham., Cordia ecalyculata Vell., Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taub., Psidium guajava L., Pterogyne nitens Tul. and Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi). The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with five treatments and five replicates. The treatments consisted of a single dose of each pre-emergence herbicide and a control. Throughout the 60 days after sowing we evaluated weed cover and seedling emergence and early growth of tree species. Overall, our results suggest that all tested herbicides reduced weed cover; however, they also negatively affected tree species seedling emergence. Of the four herbicides tested, atrazine and diuron showed the greatest effects on tree seedling emergence, oxyfluorfen was least aggressive towards native species and isoxaflutole was most effective in weed control. Native tree species varied in their responses to herbicides, indicating that future experiments should increase the number of species tested as well as investigate how seed traits can affect the species responses to different herbicides.

The 16 April 2016 earthquake in Ecuador exposed the significant weaknesses concerning the methodological designs to compute—from an economic standpoint—the consequences of a natural hazard-related disaster for productive exchanges and the accumulation of capital in *** study addressed one of these challenges with an innovative ex ante model to measure the partial and net short-term effects of a natural hazard-related catastrophe from an interregional perspective,with the 16 April 2016 earthquake serving as a case *** general,the specified and estimated model follows the approach of the extended Miyazawa model,which endogenizes consumption demand in a standard input–output model with the subnational interrelations and resulting *** to the country’s limitations in its regional account records the input–output matrices for each province of Ecuador had to be estimated,which then allowed transactions carried out between any two sectors within or outside a given province to be identified by means of the RAS *** estimations provide evidence that the net short-term impact on the national accounts was not significant,and under some of the simulated scenarios,based on the official information with respect to earthquake management,the impact may even have had a positive effect on the growth of the national product during 2016.
