Facile intercalation of alkali ions in WO_(3)for modulated electronic and optical properties:Implications for artificial synapses and chromogenic application

Tungsten oxides(WO_(3))are widely recognized as multifunctional systems owing to the existence of rich *** diverse phases exhibit distinct octahedra-tilting patterns,generating substantial tunnels that are ideally suited for ***,a quantitative comprehension regarding the impact of distinct phases on the kinetics of intercalated conducting ions remains ***,we employ first-principles calculations to explore the spatial and orientational correlations of ion transport inγ-and h-WO_(3),shedding light on the relationship between diffusion barriers and the size of the conducting *** findings reveal that different types and concentrations of alkali-metals induce distinct and continuous lattice distortions in WO_(3)***,γ-WO_(3)is more appropriate to accommodate Li+ions,exhibiting a diffusion barrier and coefficient of 0.25 eV and 9.31×10^(-8)cm^(2)s^(-1),***,h-WO_(3)features unidirectional and sizeable tunnels that facilitate the transport of K+ions with an even lower barrier and a high coefficient of 0.11 e V and 2.12×10^(-5)cm^(2)s^(-1),***,the introduction of alkali-metal into WO_(3)tunnels tends to introduce n-type conductivity by contributing s-electrons to the unoccupied W 5d states,resulting in enhanced conductivity and tunable electronic *** alkali metals in WO_(3)tunnels are prone to charge transfer,forming small polaronic states and modulating the light absorption in the visible and nearinfrared *** tunable electronic and optical properties,combined with the high diffusion coefficient,underscore the potential of WO_(3)in applications such as artificial synapses and chromogenic devices.

steady-state multiscale CFD simulation of a circulating fl uidized bed riser

Compared to transient simulation, steady-state simulation of circulating fluidized bed risers is more efficient, but is also harder to perform due to the complex scale-dependency of dense gas-solid flows. In this work, steady-state computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of a riser is performed using the steady energy-minimization multi-scale (EMMs) drag. It is found that the steady state corresponds to an extremely large scale of length and time, thus the grid size required in steady-state simulation is larger than that in transient one. The time-averaged two-fluid model (TFM) coupled with the steady-state EMMs/1M drag model enables a good prediction of the s-shaped, axial solids distribution and the choking transition, whereas the two-phase turbulence and solids stress models are important in predicting the radially core-annular distribution of solids. so far as we know, this is the first time that one can predict the choking transition in a steady-state CFD simulation. An isogeometric approach for nonlocal bending and free oscillation of magneto-electro-elastic functionally graded nanobeam with elastic constraints

Hybrid Dynamic Variables-Dependent Event-Triggered Fuzzy Model Predictive Control

This article focuses on dynamic event-triggered mechanism(DETM)-based model predictive control(MPC) for T-s fuzzy systems.A hybrid dynamic variables-dependent DETM is carefully devised,which includes a multiplicative dynamic variable and an additive dynamic *** addressed DETM-based fuzzy MPC issue is described as a “min-max” optimization problem(OP).To facilitate the co-design of the MPC controller and the weighting matrix of the DETM,an auxiliary OP is proposed based on a new Lyapunov function and a new robust positive invariant(RPI) set that contain the membership functions and the hybrid dynamic variables.A dynamic event-triggered fuzzy MPC algorithm is developed accordingly,whose recursive feasibility is analysed by employing the RPI *** the designed controller,the involved fuzzy system is ensured to be asymptotically *** examples show that the new DETM and DETM-based MPC algorithm have the advantages of reducing resource consumption while yielding the anticipated performance.

Effect of Operation Parameters on the Thermal Characteristics in a Planar solid Oxide Fuel Cell

Effective operation strategies in the solid oxide fuel cell(sOFC)can adjust the spatial distribution of temperature gradient favoring the long-term *** investigate the effects of different operating conditions on the thermal behavior inside sOFC,a three-dimensional model is developed in this *** model is verified by comparing it with the experimental *** heat generation rate and its variation under different operating conditions are *** combined effects of operating voltage and gas temperature are considered to be the key factor influencing the temperature *** to the original case,the temperature of sOFC decreases by 21.4 K when the fuel velocity reaches 5 m/*** the maximum temperature gradient increases by21.2%.Meanwhile,higher fuel velocities can eliminate about 32%of the area with higher temperature *** when the oxidant velocity reaches 7.5 m/s,the peak temperature gradient effectively decreases by 16.59%.simultaneous adjustment of the oxidant and fuel velocities can effectively reduce the peak temperature gradient and increase the safety *** effects of operation conditions on the temperature gradient of the cell are clarified in this study,which can be a reference for further research on the reliability of sOFCs.

Effects of grain's shape-and size-polydispersities,orientation,and area fraction on tortuosity and permeability of 2D granular media

The microstructure of granular media, including grain's shape- and size-polydispersities, orientation, and area fraction can potentially affect its permeability. However, few studies consider the coupling effects of these features. This work employs geometrical probability and stereology to establish quantitative relationships between the above microstructural features and the geometric tortuosity of the two-dimensional granular media containing superellipse, superoval, and polygon grains. Then the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is used to determine the permeabilities of these granular media. By combining the tortuosity model and the LBM-derived permeabilities, modified K–C equations are formulated to predict the permeability and the shape factor, considering the grain's shape- and size-polydispersities, orientation, and area fraction. The reliability of these methods can be verified by comparing them with both our simulations and available experimental, theoretical, and numerical data reported in the literature. The findings implicate that the tortuosity and permeability of the granular media are strongly correlated with the grain's shape, orientation, and area fraction but unaffected by the size polydispersity and spatial arrangement of grains. Only circularity is not enough to derive a unified formula for considering the impact of grain shape on tortuosity and permeability, other shape parameters need to be explored in the future.

Leaf habit differentiation explains trait tradeoffs across savanna woody plants

Identifying how leaf habit subdivisions link to the fast–slow and avoidance–tolerance trait tradeoffs can provide new insight into divergence in ecophysiological strategies among plant functional groups. Here, we tested a hypothesis that the differentiation across deciduous, semi-deciduous and evergreen woody species contributes to physiological trait tradeoffs in a dry-hot valley savanna. We investigated 11 photosynthetic, morphological and hydraulic traits of 24 species including 8 deciduous, 10 semi-deciduous and 6 evergreen species. Deciduous species were grouped in the fast and avoidance side associated with high values of maximum photosynthetic rates,stomatal conductance and leaf size, while evergreen species were grouped in the slow and tolerance side associated with high photosynthetic water use efficiency, leaf mass per area, sapwood density, Huber value, leaf water potential at turgor loss point and water potential causing 50% loss of stem hydraulic conductance. semideciduous species generally had intermediate trait values and represented different physiological characteristics when compared to deciduous and evergreen species. The physiological trait tradeoffs showed a close linkage to the differentiation of these three leaf habits. Our findings clearly reveal trait tradeoffs related to fast–slow and avoidance–tolerance strategies among diverse savanna plants, suggesting a syndrome in multiple ecophysiology strategies across different leaf habits.

Bunching enhancement for coherent harmonic generation by using phase merging effects

In this paper,promising but simple schemes are investigated to enhance the micro-bunching of relativistic electron beams for coherent harmonic generation(CHG)by using phase merging *** contrast to the standard CHG scheme,two specially designed dispersion sections(Dss)are adopted with the Ds-modulator–Ds *** phase space of the e beam is appropriately coupled in the first Ds,and the electrons within one seed wavelength can merge to the same phase with a matched second ***-bunching of the e beam can thus be enhanced by a large margin with much higher-harmonic *** e beams from laser wakefield accelerators(LWFAs)as an example,start-to-end simulations are performed to show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed schemes with several *** beam current can be optimized to several tens to hundreds of kiloamperes,and the radiation power reaches hundreds of megawatts in the extreme ultraviolet regime within a 3.5 m-long *** proposed schemes offer new opportunities for future compact free-electron lasers driven by LWFAs and provides prospects for truly compact and widely applicable systems.

Vertebrate neurons are highly dynamic cells that undergo several alterations in their functioning and physiologies in adaptation to various external *** particular,how these neurons respond to physical exercise has long been an area of active *** of the vertebrate locomotor system’s adaptability suggest multiple mechanisms are involved in the regulation of neuronal activity and properties during *** this brief review,we highlight recent results and insights from the field with a focus on the following mechanisms:(a)alterations in neuronal excitability during acute exercise;(b)alterations in neuronal excitability after chronic exercise;(c)exercise-induced changes in neuronal membrane properties via modulation of ion channel activity;(d)exercise-enhanced dendritic plasticity;and(e)exercise-induced alterations in neuronal gene expression and protein *** hope is to update the community with a cellular and molecular understanding of the recent mechanisms underlying the adaptability of the vertebrate locomotor system in response to both acute and chronic physical exercise.
