Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide,with a very poor overall five-year survival *** intrinsic limitations associated with the conventional diagnosis and therapeutic strategies used for lung cancer have motivated the development of nanotechnology and nanomedicine approaches,in order to improve early diagnosis rate and develop more effective and safer therapeutic options for lung *** nanomedicines aim to individualize drug delivery,diagnosis,and therapy by tailoring them to each patient’s unique physiology and pathological features—on both the genomic and proteomic levels—and have attracted widespread attention in this *** the successful application of nanomedicine techniques in lung cancer research,the clinical translation of nanomedicine approaches remains challenging due to the limited understanding of the interactions that occur between nanotechnology and biology,and the challenges posed by the toxicology,pharmacology,immunology,and largescale manufacturing of *** this review,we highlight the progress and opportunities associated with nanomedicine use for lung cancer treatment and discuss the prospects of this field,together with the challenges associated with clinical translation.

Patient-derived tumor xenografts(PDXs)are a powerful tool for drug discovery and screening in ***,current studies have led to little understanding of genotype mismatches in PDXs,leading to massive economic ***,we established PDX models from 53 lung cancer patients with a genotype matching rate of 79.2%(42/53).Furthermore,17 clinicopathological features were examined and input in stepwise logistic regression(LR)models based on the lowest Akaike information criterion(AIC),least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(LASSO)-LR,support vector machine(SVM)recursive feature elimination(SVM-RFE),extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost),gradient boosting and categorical features(Cat Boost),and the synthetic minority oversampling technique(SMOTE).Finally,the performance of all models was evaluated by the accuracy,area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC),and F1 score in 100 testing *** multivariable LR models revealed that age,number of driver gene mutations,epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)gene mutations,type of prior chemotherapy,prior tyrosine kinase inhibitor(TKI)therapy,and the source of the sample were powerful ***,Cat Boost(mean accuracy=0.960;mean AUC=0.939;mean F1 score=0.908)and the eight-feature SVM-RFE(mean accuracy=0.950;mean AUC=0.934;mean F1 score=0.903)showed the best performance among the ***,application of the SMOTE improved the predictive capability of most models,except Cat *** on the SMOTE,the ensemble classifier of single models achieved the highest accuracy(mean=0.975),AUC(mean=0.949),and F1 score(mean=0.938).In conclusion,we established an optimal predictive model to screen lung cancer patients for non-obese diabetic(NOD)/Shi-scid,interleukin-2 receptor(IL-2R)γ^(null)(NOG)/PDX models and offer a general approach for building predictive models.

A study was conducted to examine the germination requirements of Cedrela odorata, Guaiacum sanctum and Calycophyllum candidissimum seeds, and the effect of light intensity on survival and growth of C. odorata and G. sanctum seedlings planted on open, partially-open and beneath the canopy of a dry forest in Nicaragua. The results show that germination of C. candidissimum seeds was signifi- cantly higher in light than darkness at constant temperatures ranging from 20-35℃. Both C. odorata and G. sanctum seeds germinated in light and darkness to a varying extent, and the optimal germination temperature was around 20-25℃. Alternating temperature regimes did not improve germination. Survival of G. sanctum seedlings was 70% beneath the canopy and 80% in the open, and its relative growth rate in collar diameter was 1.88 mm/month in the open and 1.42 mm/month in the understory. Survival was generally poor for C. odorata, particularly in the understory. We concluded that light is an absolute requirement for the germination of C. candidissimum seeds while germination of C. odorata and G. sanctum seeds are more sensitive to temperature. Owing to its high survival rate on open site, G. sanctum could serve as a candidate species for reforestation of degraded sites.

A study was conducted to examine the natural regeneration of three dry forest species, Lysiloma divaricatum （Jacq.）, Tabebuia ochracea （Cham.） and Lonchocarpus minimiflorus （Donn. Sin.） over a three-year period and to analyze heterogeneity of regeneration in relationship to topographic slope and incidence of light in Chacocente Wildlife Reserve in Nicaragua. Permanent sample plots were established in 2001, and all individuals with height as low as 10 cm and diameter as large as 10 cm were recorded for three consecutive years from 2001 to 2003. The results show that the density of naturally regenerated individuals varied significantly among species, as well as over time. L. minimiflorus and T. ochracea had higher densities compared with L. divaricatum, and the net change in population density was slightly positive for T. ochracea only. Regeneration was more abundant in the gentle and steep slopes under partial exposure of the crown to sunlight, thus resulting in aggregated pattern of distribution, especially for L. minimiflorus and T. ochracea. We concluded that natural regeneration alone is not sufficient to maintain the desired number of stocks of these species, and an immediate restoration measure should be taken to assist the natural regeneration process.

The peripheral repertoire of CD4＋ T lymphocytes contains autoreactive cells that remain tolerant through several mechanisms. However, nonspecific CD4＋ T cells can be activated in physiological conditions as in the course of an ongoing immune response, and their outcome is not yet fully understood. Here, we investigate the fate of human naive CD4＋ lymphocytes activated by dendritic cells （DCs） presenting endogenous self-peptides in comparison with lymphocytes involved in alloresponses. We generated memory cells （Tmem） from primary effectors activated with mature autologous DCs plus interleukin （IL）-2 （Tmauto）, simulating the circumstances of an active immune response, or allogeneic DCs （Tmallo）. Tmem were generated from effector cells that were rested in the absence of antigenic stimuli, with or without IL-7. Tmem were less activated than effectors （demonstrated by CD25 downregulation） particularly with IL-7, suggesting that this cytokine may favour the transition to quiescence. Tmauto and TmaHo showed an effector memory phenotype, and responded similarly to polyclonal and antigen-specific stimuli. Biochemically, IL-7-treated Tma^o were closely related to conventional memory lymphocytes based on Erk-l/2 activation, whereas Tmauto were more similar to effectors. Autologous effectors exhibited lower responses to IL-7 than allogeneic cells, which were reflected in their reduced proliferation and higher cell death. This was not related to IL-7 receptor expression but rather to signalling deficiencies, according to STAT5 activation These results suggest that ineffective responses to IL-7 could impair the transition to memory cells of naive CD4＋ T lymphocytes recognizing self-peptides in the setting of strong costimulation.

Palpitations are one of the most common reasons for medical consultation. Theytend to worry patients and can affect their quality of life. They are often asymptom associated with cardiac rhythm disorders, although there are otheretiologies. For diagnosis, it is essential to be able to reliably correlate the symptomswith an electrocardiographic record allowing the identification or rulingout of a possible rhythm disorder. However, reaching a diagnosis is not alwayssimple, given that they tend to be transitory symptoms and the patient isfrequently asymptomatic at the time of assessment. In recent years, electrocardiographicmonitoring systems have incorporated many technical improvements thatsolve several of the 24-h Holter monitor limitations. The objective of this review isto provide an update on the different monitoring methods currently available,remarking their indications and limitations, to help healthcare professionals toappropriately select and use them in the work-up of patients with palpitations.

AIM To determine a potential relationship between serum undercarboxylated(uc OC) concentration and cardiovascular risk factors in type 2 diabetes(T2D) patients and healthy subjects(HS).METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted on 140 subjects classified into two groups, 70 with T2D and 70 HS. Medical history and physical examination with anthropometric measurements were obtained from all subjects. Body fat percentage was determined by bioelectrical impendency analysis. Serum uc OC concentration was determined by enzyme immunoassay,while serum levels of insulin and hsC RP were obtained using high sensitivity enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Insulin resistance was determined using the homeostasis model assessment-IR. Lipid profile [triglycerides,total cholesterol(TC), high-density lipoproteins(HDL-c),low density lipoproteins(LDL-c), very low-density lipoproteins] was determined by spectrophotometry and standard formulas when applicable. RESULTS The T2D patient group showed significantly higher values of waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, systolic blood pressure(SBP), diastolic blood pressure(DBP),current smoking, and alcohol use when compared to the HS group(P < 0.05). We observed a significantly lower serum ucO C concentration in T2D than in HS(1.5 ± 1.4vs 2.3 ± 1.8, P < 0.05). In the whole study population,ucO C concentration was inversely correlated with body mass index(BMI)(r =-0.236, P < 0.05), fasting plasma glucose(r =-0.283, P < 0.01) and HDL-c(r =-0.255,P < 0.05); and positively correlated with LDL-c/HDL-c ratio(r = 0.306, P < 0.05) and TC/HDL-c ratio(r =0.284, P < 0.05). In the T2D group, serum uc OC concentration was inversely correlated with BMI(r =-0.310, P < 0.05) and body-fat percentage(r =-0.311,P < 0.05), and positively correlated with DBP(r = 0.450,P < 0.01).
