This paper focuses on the residential housing performance and people’s lifestyle in terms of energy use. The research has to be continuously study in order to change the Asian people’s lifestyle moving toward the low energy consumption. The research began with collecting data by questionnaires which already distributed to some cities of some countries in Asia. In this paper, we conducted review of energy behavior in housing of three different countries, Indonesia, China, and Thailand. Through questionnaire surveys distributed to more than 600 households, we revealed the housing unit characteristics, household characteristics, ownership of domestic electrical appliances, use of indoor thermal equipment, and monthly energy use. Based on questionnaire results from all households in the seven districts, we conducted statistical analyses to find the major factors influencing the energy use in households. Finally, the research results will be used to indicate the energy use and develop an idea for energy conservation in Asian countries. For further studies, the researchers also try to discover the new way of changing the people’s lifestyle in terms of energy consumption.

Research on Energy Consumption of Traditional Natural Villages in Transition: A Case Study in Zhejiang Province

Traditional agriculture is in the direction of increasing integration of the primary industry, secondary industry, and tertiary industry in Zhejiang province. A survey was undertaken on energy consumption of traditional natural villages by taking Anji Ligeng village for an example. This paper firstly studied rural buildings, rural family structure, occupants’ activity and the usage of household appliances in the form of a questionnaire. Then, the household energy resource structure and energy consumption structure were analyzed and compared with other surveys. The results show that, the electric energy consumption was 6 kWh/(m2•a), which was far less than urban residential household. In rural household energy resource structure, the proportion of non-commercial energy resource was higher than commercial energy resource. Firewood accounted for 83%, electricity for 12%, LPG for 3% and solar energy for 2%. In building energy consumption structure, cooking and hot water took up 33%, appliances 31%, lighting 20%, heating 12%, cooling 4%. In all influential factors, frequently used area, number of air conditioner per household and building function were obviously correlated with energy consumption;income, building shape factor and window to wall area ratio had no correlation with energy consumption in the low energy consumption area.

Survey and Field Measurement on Residential Lifestyle and Energy Use in Rural China

In the middle of May to September 2014, the research team conducted survey and field measurement on rural residential energy consumption and environment condition in China’s local city in order to grasp the lifestyle pattern and its correlation on energy use in the demand side. In this paper, the analyses of people lifestyle and summer energy consumption will be presented through statistical analyses based on data which collected from questionnaire survey. The results of questionnaire were presented and discussed. Based on the questionnaire results, we classified the housing types into several groups then compared the energy use of each type. The major influential factors on housing energy consumption were analyzed and the results were discussed. The results of field measurement during summer which conducted to several types of houses were also discussed. Finally, the results will propose some strategies on lowering housing energy use in the village. Further, the results will give conceptual layout to find the correlation between environmental quality, thermal condition, and energy consumption.

This study aimed to develop and evaluate the performance of a service system platform based on the Internet of Things(IoT)for monitoring nutritional deficiencies in plants and providing fertilizer *** are two distinct differences between this work and previous ones;namely,this service system platform has been developed based on IoT using a system engineering approach and its performance has been evaluated using *** have successfully developed and integrated a service system platform and chlorophyll meter that is based on *** have also successfully tested the performance of the service system platform using the JMeter *** dependability value measured from the five tested variables(reliability,availability,integrity,maintainability,and safety)showed a value of 0.97 which represents a very good level of system confidence in not failing to deliver services to users under normal operational *** a future perspective,this platform can be used as an alternative service to monitor nutrient deficiencies in plants and provide fertilization recommendations to increase yields,reduce fertilizer costs,and prevent the use of excessive fertilizers,which can cause environmental pollution.

Slope Stability Considering the Top Building Load

Slope stability is one of the most important subjects of geotechnics. The slope top-loading plays a key role in the stability of slopes in hill slope areas. When the building load is too large or the point of action from the shoulder is too close, the shear stress of the slope will be significantly greater than its shear strength, resulting in reduced slope stability. Therefore, it is of great importance to study the relationship between the building load and the stability of the slope. This study aims to analyze the influence of different building loads applied at different distances on the top of the slope and deduces their effects on the slope stability. For this purpose, a three-dimensional slope model under different building loads with different distances to the slope shoulder was established using the finite-difference analysis software Flac3D. The results show that the loads applied at different distances on the top of the slope have different effects on the slope stability. The slope factor of safety (FOS) increases with the increase of the distance between the top-loading and the slope shoulder;it varies from 1.37 to 1.53 for the load P = 120 KPa, 1.27 to 1.53 for the load P = 200 KPa, and from 1.18 to 1.44 for P = 300 KPa, resulting in the decrease of the coincidence area between the load-deformation and the potential sliding surface. The slope is no longer affected by the potential risk of sliding at approximately 20 m away from the slope shoulder.

Structural Model of Kendeng Basin: A New Concept of Oil and Gas Exploration

Kendeng Basin stretches in an E-W direction from the Quaternary Merapi-Ungaran Volcano range in the West to the Madura Strait East of Jawa Timur Province, Indonesia. With Quaternary volcanic deposits covering this basin, its subsurface configuration has not been accurately identified. Several scholars suggest that its configuration forms an asymmetrical basin deepening to the south as a result of volcanic deposits and extending E-W direction. This paper answers what configuration Kendeng Basin has, including whether it consists of a simple asymmetrical shape as previous studies have interpreted or other patterns due to tectonic processes that took place during its formation. The research employed Gravity and Magnetic method, and the results were processed by spectral and gradient analyses. Both analyses revealed that Kendeng Basin formed Horst-Graben structures extending in an E-W direction based on a response to compression and strain forces during its formation. A structure with an E-W direction controls the shape of the Horst-Graben and is transected by a structural pattern extending in a NE-SW direction or known as the Meratus pattern. These findings provide an alternative to the concept of oil and gas exploration, which, until today, is merely known from the emergence of oil seepages in Kendeng Basin.

The Kendeng Basin, the major depocenter of the East Java Basin, has been filled with deep-sea clastic volcanic deposits since the Middle Tertiary, which developed into volcanic deposits in the Quaternary. With thick Quaternary volcanic deposits covering almost the entire basin, outcrops are only found in the north, forming a fold-thrust belt structure. The oldest known stratigraphic unit is the early Miocene Pelang Formation, which was deposited in the lower to the upper bathyal zone. Rocks older than the Pelang Formation have not been identified in this basin either from outcrops or drill-hole data. However, the geochemical analysis of oil seepage proves to be different because the oil source rock in Kendeng Basin was interpreted to be of older lithology than the Pelang Formation, indicating a potentially older stratigraphic unit in the Kendeng Basin that has not been revealed to date. Mud volcanoes transported rock material from the Kendeng Basin to the surface, uncovering the stratigraphy that has been an enigma. The material in question includes Nummulites limestones, conglomerates, and quartz sandstones. Paleontological analysis results on rock fragments indicate that they belong to the Middle Eocene age, so they are older than the Pelang Formation. Mud volcano also carried younger limestones to the surface identified as Miocene Age (equivalent with the Pelang Formation), which were deposited in a middle neritic environment, so they provided information that shallow areas possibly formed a horst-graben structure during the Miocene in the Kendeng Basin. The appearance of Eocene and Miocene rock fragments can be used to complement the stratigraphy and it also provides a potentially new concept of source-reservoir rock in the Kendeng Basin.

We demonstrate monolithically integrated n-GaAs/p-Si depletion-type optical phase shifters fabricated on a 300 mm wafer-scale Si photonics *** measured the phase shifter performance using Mach–Zehnder modulators with the GaAs/Si optical phase shifters in both arms.A modulation efficiency of V_(π)L as low as 0.3 V·cm has been achieved,which is much lower compared to a carrier-depletion type Si optical phase shifter with pn *** propagation loss is relatively high at.5 d B∕mm,the modulator length can be reduced by the factor of.2 for the same optical modulation amplitude of a Si reference Mach–Zehnder modulator,owing to the high modulation efficiency of the shifters.
