In-situ growth of CdS nanorods (NRs) has been demonstrated via solvothermal, in a low band gap polymer, poly [[4,8-bis[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy] benzo [1,2-b:4,5-b’] dithiophene-2,6-diyl] [3-fluoro-2-[(2-ethylhexyl) carbonyl] thieno [3,4-b] thiophenediyl]] (PTB7). It is a high yielding, green approach as it removes use of volatile and hazardous chemicals such as pyridine as ligand which are conventionally used to synthesize precursors of CdS (NRs). Moreover the solvothermal process is a zero emission process being a close vessel synthesis and hence no material leaching into the atmosphere during the synthesis. The PTB7:CdS nanocomposite has been characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR, UV-visible spectroscopy techniques. The photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy study of PTB7 with CdS NRs has shown significant PL quenching by the incorporation of CdS NRs in PTB7;this shows that CdS NRs are efficient electron acceptors with the PTB7. The PTB7:CdS is used as active layer in the fabrication of hybrid solar cells (HSC) as donor-acceptor combination in the bulk heterojunction (BHJ) geometry. The HSCs fabricated using this active layer without any additional supporting fullerene based electron acceptor has given power conversion efficiency of above 1%.

Graph Convolutional Network Based Fault Detection and Identification for Low-voltage DC Microgrid

This paper presents a novel fault detection and identification method for low-voltage direct current(DC)microgrid with meshed *** proposed method is based on graph convolutional network(GCN),which utilizes the explicit spatial information and measurement data of the network topology to identify a *** has a more substantial feature extraction ability even in the presence of noise and bad *** adjacency matrix for GCN is developed by considering the network topology as an inherent *** bus voltage and line current samples after faults are regarded as the node ***,the DC microgrid model is developed using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation,and fault simulation is carried out by considering different possible events that include environmental and physical *** performance of the proposed method under different conditions is compared with those of different machine learning techniques such as convolutional neural network(CNN),support vector machine(SVM),and fully connected network(FCN).The results reveal that the proposed method is more effective than others at detecting and classifying *** method also possesses better robustness under the presence of noise and bad data.

A Novel Approach for Mitigating Power Quality Issues in a PV Integrated Microgrid System Using an Improved Jelly Fish Algorithm

A two-step methodology was used to address and improve the power quality concerns for the PV-integrated microgrid system. First, partial shading was included to deal with the real-time issues. The Improved Jelly Fish Algorithm integrated Perturb and Obserb (IJFA-PO) has been proposed to track the Global Maximum Power Point (GMPP). Second, the main unit-powered via DC–AC converter is synchronised with the grid. To cope with the wide voltage variation and harmonic mitigation, an auxiliary unit undergoes a novel series compensation technique. Out of various switching approaches, IJFA-based Selective Harmonic Elimination (SHE) in 120° conduction gives the optimal solution. Three switching angles were obtained using IJFA, whose performance was equivalent to that of nine switching angles. Thus, the system is efficient with minimised higher-order harmonics and lower switching losses. The proposed system outperformed in terms of efficiency, metaheuristics, and convergence. The Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) obtained was 1.32%, which is within the IEEE 1547 and IEC tolerable limits. The model was developed in MATLAB/Simulink 2016b and verified with an experimental prototype of grid-synchronised PV capacity of 260 W tested under various loading conditions. The present model is reliable and features a simple controller that provides more convenient and adequate performance.

CBM has been recognized as a significant natural gas resource for a long time. Recently, CO_2 sequestration in coalbeds for ECBM has been attracting growing attention because of greater concerns about the effects of greenhouse gases and the emerging commercial significance of CBM. Reservoir-simulation technology,as a useful tool of reservoir development, has the capability to provide us with an economic means to solve complex reservoir-engineering problems with efficiency. The pore structure of coal is highly heterogeneous, and the heterogeneity of the pores depends on the coal type and rank.

Estimation of discharge and its distribution in compound channels

Results of research into a compound channel having width ratio （a） in excess of 11 are presented in the form of boun-dary shear distributions across the compound cross section. New relationship is derived between the percentage of shear carried by the flood plains （%S fp ） and the percentage of area occupied by the flood plains （%Afp ） . The equation so derived is taken as the basis to develop a new methodology to predict the stage discharge relationship specifically for wide compound channels using Darcy＇s friction factor （ f ） for the main channel and flood plain regions. The methodology also is used for compound channels with smaller width ratios by applying the appropriate relation for %S fp derived earlier by different researchers and seems to work well. Next, as a corollary to the methodology, separate formulae are proposed to estimate flow distribution in main channel and flood plain regions. The proposed method and its corollary are tested for their validity against well-published small-scale data series of pre-vious researchers along with some large-scale data series from EPSRC-FCF （A-Series） compound channel experiments and very good agreement is observed between the measured values and predicted values for total flow as well as zonal distribution of flow. The methodology is also applied to some compound river section data published in literature and is found to serve well the purpose of predicting flow in real world application. This new method gives the least RMS value of error for discharge prediction compared with some other well-known methods used for estimating stage-discharge relation in compound channels by considering all data sets.

Laboratory investigation on damping characteristics of homogeneous and stratified soil-ash system

In this study,the damping responses of uniform soil,equi-proportional fly ash,and local soil as a single unit were *** large-strain cyclic triaxial tests were performed for the specimen compacted at the desired density(95%e99%of maximum dry density).The compacted specimens were tested under the loading frequency of 0.3e1 Hz with medium confinement of 70e100 ***,the unsymmetrical behavior of the hysteresis loop was analyzed using three different damping estimation approaches,*** hysteresis loop(SHL),asymmetric hysteresis loop(ASHL),and the modified American Society for Testing and Materials(ASTM)*** outcome of the study shows for fly ash,local soil,and layered soil-ash,the ASHL technique has the highest damping value,followed by ASTM and then the SHL *** specimens prepared under high density and subjected to high confinement show low damping ***,the specimens tested at high frequency exhibits high damping ***,the damping value of fly ash determined using the SHL and ASHL methods has a similar profile and reaches a maximum at 1%shear strain value before *** composite stratified deposit exhibits more dependency on relative compaction,confining pressure,and less on loading *** on the results,it is highly recommended to use the ASHL approach,especially under large strain conditions irrespective of soil *** maximum damping ratio of stratified deposits is always in between the damping ratio of local soil and fly *** damping ratio of stratified soil and local soil is slightly larger than that of the other soils,although the damping ratio of fly ash is equivalent to that of the sand and clayey *** results may be helpful in the accurate determination of the damping properties of the layered soil-ash system that is required in the seismic response analysis.

Spatio-temporal evolution of the Satpura Mountain Belt of India:A comparison with the Capricorn Orogen of Western Australia and implication for evolution of the supercontinent Columbia

Reconstruction of the Neoproterozoic supercontinent Rodinia shows near neighbour positions of the South Indian Cratons and Western Australian Cratons. These cratonic areas are characterized by extensive Paleoproterozoic tectonism. Detailed analysis of the spatio-temporal data of the Satpura Mountains of India indicates presence of at least three episodes of Proterozoic orogeny at ~ 2100-1900 Ma, ~ 1850 Ma and ~ 1650 Ma, and associated basin development and closing. A subdued imprint of the Grenville orogeny （~ 950 Ma） is also found in rock records of this Mountain Belt. The Capricorn Orogen of Western Australia also shows three episodes of orogeny： Opthalmian-Glenburgh Orogeny （2100-1950 Ma）, Capricorn Orogeny （ ~ 1800 Ma） and Mangaroon Orogeny （ ~ 1650 Ma）, and basin opening and closing related to these tectonic movements. These broad similarities suggest their joint evolution possibly in a near neighbour posi- tion during Paleoproterozoic Era. In view of juxtaposition of the Western Australia along the east coast of India, at the position of the Eastern Ghats, during Archean, it is suggested that the breaking of this Archean megacraton at - 2400 Ma led to northward movement of the broken components and formation of the Satpura-Capricorn Orogen （at - 2100 and - 1800 Ma） due to the collision of cratonic blocks with the pre- existing northern cratonic nuclei of India and Western Australia. This is also the time of formation of thesupercontinent Columbia. A phase of basin opening followed the ~ 1800 Ma event, followed by another phase of collisional event at - 1600 Ma at the site of the Satpura--Capricorn Orogen. Subsequent evolutions of the Satpura and the Capricorn Orogens differ slightly, indicating separate evolutional history.

Degradation of a discrete infilled joint shear strength subjected to repeated blast-induced vibrations

This paper presents the results of a series of numerical modeling experiments aimed at quantifying blast- induced degradation of shear strength of discontinuities. Near-field vibration history of a single-row pro- duction blast in a. limestone quarry was used as input to the nu .merical model. For this. purpose, two rock blocks, representing a stiff massive sulfide rock and a weaker limestone rock, were simulated using the 2D Particle Flow Code （PFC2D）. Rock mass conta!ning a single inclined joint was modeled as Mohr- Coulomb. The results show that the crack generation rate is increased in both samples after repetitive vibration loading. Joint shear strength degradation rate in !he stiffer massive sulfide rock sample is higher than the softer limestone rock, which is attributed to the higher seismic impedance mismatch. The results show that even low-amplitude blasting vibrations （〈80 mm/s）, when repeated as in multi-hole blasts, can significantly degrade joint shear strength in the nearby pit walls.
