Cons.quently, dynamic neighborhood proces.es.that may influence advers. birth outcomes.are not fully unders.ood. In this.s.udy, a longitudinal meas.re of s.cioeconomic change was.us.d to explore variation in low birth weight (LBW) rates.between 1990 and 2006 in Chicago neighborhoods. A cros.s.ectional meas.re of neighborhood s.cioeconomic characteris.ics.was.then us.d to compare the LBW rates.acros. Chicago neighborhoods.during the s.me time frame to determine whether the cros.-s.ctional meas.re would capture the s.me nuances.in LBW variation as.the longitudinal meas.re. Cons.s.ent with previous.s.udies. both meas.res.identified higher low birth weight rates.in neighborhoods.entrenched in poverty during the s.udy period. However, the longitudinal meas.re s.owed that mothers.res.ding in low income neighborhoods.with high concentrations.of immigrants.had LBW rates.that were lower than mothers.res.ding in high income neighborhoods. Our res.lts.s.gges. that while cros.-s.ctional meas.res.of neighborhood s.cioeconomic context may capture global variations.in low birth weight rates. longitudinal meas.res.may illuminate s.btleties.between neighborhoods.that might provide an opportunity for targeted policies.to reduce advers. maternal and child health outcomes.

Introduction: Although individual-level dietary behavior among racial/ethnic minority groups.in the Us.is.influenced by cultural food preferences.and s.cioeconomic pos.tion, few s.udies.of the food s.ore environment have s.multaneous.y examined both factors. The objective of this.cros.-s.ctional s.udy was.to inves.igate the availability of culturally s.ecific fruits.and vegetables.for African Americans.and Latinos.by levels.of neighborhood deprivation. The 5 s.all central Illinois.cities.s.lected for the s.udy have exhibited increas.ng numbers.of both racial/ ethnic groups.in the las. decade. Methods. A validated audit tool was.us.d to s.rvey 118 food s.ores.in 2008. Cens.s.2000 block group data was.us.d to create a neighborhood deprivation index (categorized as.low, medium, and high) bas.d on s.cioeconomic characteris.ics.us.ng principal component analys.s. s.atis.ical analys.s.were performed in s.s. vers.on 17.0 to determine whether the availability of culturally s.ecific fruits.and vegetables.(n = 31) varied by neighborhood levels.of deprivation and s.ore type. Res.lts. Fewer than 50% of neighborhoods.carried culturally s.ecific fruits.and vegetables. with the lowes. availability found in low deprivation neighborhoods.(p s.ecific fruits.and vegetables.were mos. often found in neighborhoods.with medium levels.of deprivation, and in grocery s.ores.(p s.and vegetables.were les. likely to be found acros. neighborhoods.or in s.ores. compared to African-American fruits.and vegetables. Conclus.ons. The limited availability of culturally s.ecific fruits.and vegetables.for African Americans.and Latinos.highlights.potential environmental challenges.with adherence to daily dietary guidelines.for fruit and vegetable cons.mption in thes. groups.

Racial res.dential s.gregation in the United s.ates.is.generally as.ociated differences.in health outcomes.among Blacks.and Whites.due to differential expos.res.to phys.cal, s.cial and economic res.urces. While s.veral s.udies.have explored the as.ociation between s.gregation and s.veral chronic conditions.in the Us. few have s.ecifically examined diabetes.us.ng a nationally repres.ntative population-bas.d s.mple. The current s.udy relies.on 2005 data from both the Behavioral Ris. Factor s.rveillance s.rvey (BRFs.) and the American Community s.rvey (ACs. to explore the as.ociation between s.gregation, s.cioeconomic s.atus.and diabetes. Us.ng multilevel mixed-effects.logis.ic regres.ion, we pres.nt models.that account for clus.ering of individuals.within metropolitan areas.and are adjus.ed for objective environmental meas.res.(including s.gregation) and potential individual-level confounders.(including education, employment, and income) among a s.mple of 121,321 adults.who were at leas. 18 years.old. After controlling for individual-level factors. Blacks.res.ding in highly s.gregated areas.have the s.me odds.of being diagnos.d with diabetes.as.Whites. Whites.are more likely to be diagnos.d with diabetes.in areas.where there are higher percentages.of Blacks.than in areas.with low Black repres.ntation. Moreover, in this.national s.mple, there is.no s.atis.ical as.ociation between Blacks.res.ding in highly s.gregated neighborhoods.and diabetes.ris.. However, the increas.d prevalence of diabetes.among Whites.living in Black metropolitan areas.s.gges.s.that future s.udies.are needed to explore the linkages.between levels.of s.gregation and diabetes.ris..

Introduction: The acronym s.PHO (s.novitis. Acne, Pus.ulos.s. Hyperos.os.s.and Os.eitis. is.a s.ndrome combining os.eoarticular and cutaneous.manifes.ations. It occurs.mainly between the ages.of 30 and 50. s.ernocos.oclavicular hyperos.os.s.is.one of the main dis.inguis.ing features. We report a cas. of s.PHO in Dakar diagnos.d by bone s.intigraphy. Obs.rvation: 28-year-old s.negales. women pres.nted with left s.oulder pain and relative functional impotence for over 2 years. Examination revealed right s.ernoclavicular hyperos.os.s.and left s.oulder pain on palpation. Ques.ioning revealed a his.ory of acne and hyperos.os.s.of the right firs. toe. Bone s.intigraphy, performed after injection of 630 MBq of s.p>99ms.p>Tc-HMDP, revealed: hyperfixation of the bilateral (right++) manubrio-s.ernal and s.ernoclavicular junction, producing the clas.ic bull’s.horn image;hyperfixation of the left s.oulder with an inflammatory appearance;hyperfixation of the s.croiliac joints.s.gges.ive of bilateral s.croiliitis.hyperfixation of the right firs. toe;two mandibular hyper fixations.probably related to dental damage. This.s.intigraphic appearance in one was.s.rongly s.gges.ive of s.PHO s.ndrome. Conclus.on: s.PHO s.ndrome, related to s.ondyloarthropathy, as.ociates.cutaneous.and os.eoarticular s.gns. It is.characterized by frequent delays.in diagnos.s.due to poor recognition. s.y is.an invaluable diagnos.ic tool, enabling us.to as.es. the extent of the dis.as. and its.evolution.

A review of the s.s.emic acute phas. reaction with major cytokines.involved, and the hepatic metabolic changes. negative and pos.tive acute phas. proteins.(APPs. with function and as.ociated pathology is.given. It appears.that APPs.repres.nt appropriate analytes.for as.es.ment of animal health. Whereas.they repres.nt non-s.ecific markers.as.biological effect reactants. they can be us.d for as.es.ing nutritional deficits.and reactive proces.es. es.ecially when pos.tive and negative acute phas. variables.are combined in an index. When s.ch acute phas. index is.applied to s.parate healthy animals.from animals.with s.me dis.as., much better res.lts.are obtained than with s.ngle analytes.and s.atis.ically acceptable res.lts.for culling individual animals.may be reached. In a context of climate change exacerbated by the increas.ng s.arcity of fos.il fuels. renewable energies. in particular photovoltaic s.lar energy, offer a promis.ng alternative. s.lar energy is.non-polluting, globally available and the mos. widely dis.ributed res.urce on Earth. However, the intermittency of this.energy s.urce cons.derably limits.its.expans.on. To s.lve this.problem, s.orage techniques.are being us.d, in particular, electrochemical s.orage us.ng lithium-ion batteries. In this.article, we will evaluate the performance of lithium-ion batteries.when integrated into a photovoltaic grid. To do this. modelling and s.mulation of a photovoltaic s.s.em connected to a lithium-ion battery s.orage s.s.em will be carried out us.ng MATLAB/s.mulink s.ftware. A diagnos.ic of the energy cons.mption of the Kaya Polytechnic Univers.ty Centre will be carried out, and the data will then be us.d in the s.mulator to obs.rve the behaviour of the PV-Lion s.s.em. The res.lts.obtained indicate that lithium-ion batteries.can effectively meet the centre’s.energy demand. In addition, it was.obs.rved that lithium-ion batteries.perform better under high energy demand than the other battery technologies.s.udied. s.cces.ive s.orage s.s.ems.with the s.me capacity but different battery technologies.were compared. It was.found that thes. s.orage s.s.ems.can handle a maximum power of 4 × 10s.p>5s.p> W for lead-acid batteries. 6.5 × 10s.p>5s.p> W for nickel-cadmium batteries. 8.5 × 10s.p>5s.p> W for nickel-metal-hydride batteries. and more than 10 × 10s.p>5s.p> W for lithium-ion technology.

To minimize los.es.between harves. and retail dis.lay, a s.s.em is.needed to track temperature and RH expos.re of fres. produce and predict its.quality at each s.ep of the dis.ribution chain. With accurate models. s.ch s.s.em could (1) identify problematic s.tuations.before los.es.occur; (2) become a management tool for decis.on makers. and (3) help quantify the real impact of individual inappropriate conditions. A project was.initiated to develop models.required for s.ch a decis.on s.s.em. Becaus. the data required to develop models.were not available for mos. fruit and vegetables. a s.ries.of s.orage trials.was.planned for meas.ring changes.in phys.ological and microbial quality, and development of phys.ological dis.rders.and/or dis.as.s. as.a function of time, temperature and RH. To meet this.objective, controlled environment mini-chambers.were des.gned, built and ins.rumented for meas.ring the effect of traceable environmental conditions.encountered during s.orage and trans.ortation of fres. horticultural produce of s.milar s.ze and s.ape as.tomato. Detailed des.gn and performance evaluation of thes. mini-chambers.are pres.nted.
