Impact of postoperative TNM stages after neoadjuvant therapy on prognosis of adenocarcinoma of the gastro-oesophageal junction tumours

AIM To compare prognostic relevance of postoperative tumour/node/metastasis(TMN) stages between patients with and without neoadjuvant treatment. METHODS Data from patients with adenocarcinoma of the gastrooesophageal junction(AEG) who had undergone surgical resection at a single German university centre were retrospectively analysed. Patients with or without neoadjuvant preoperative treatment were selected by exact matching based on preoperative staging. Standard assessment of preoperative(c)TNM stage was based on endoscopic ultrasound and computed tomography of the thorax and abdomen, according to the American Joint Committee on Cancer/Union for International Cancer Control classification system. Patients with cT1cN0cM0 and cT2cN0cM0 stages were excluded from the study, as these patients are generally not recommended for pretreatment. Longterm survival among the various postoperative TNM stages was compared between the groups of patients with or without neoadjuvant treatment. For statistical assessments, a P-value of ≤ 0.05 was considered *** The study included a total of 174 patients. The group of patients who had received preoperative neoadjuvant treatment included more cases of AEG(Siewert) type 1 carcinoma(P < 0.001), and consequently oesophagectomy was performed more frequently among these patients(P < 0.001). The two groups(with or without preoperative neoadjuvant treatment) had comparable preoperative T stages, but the group of patients with preoperative neoadjuvant treatment presented a higher rate of preoperative N-positive disease(P = 0.020). Overall long-term survival was not different between the two groups of patients according to tumours of different AEG classifications, receipt of oesophagectomy or gastrectomy, nor between patients with similar postoperative TNM stage, resection margin and grading. However, an improvement of long-term survival was found for patients with nodal down-staging after neoadjuvant therapy(P = 0.053).CONCLUSI

The Outline of the OPEC Conference Simulation

This paper covers the positive features of a simulation and provides the outline of the OPEC （The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries） Conference Simulation that was held with the 3rd-year students of the Department of World Economy and International Relations of National Research University ＂Higher School of Economics＂. The paper describes the three stages of the simulation at length. The purpose of the simulation was to give students an opportunity to see the market forces at work with the concrete example and to give them hands-on experience in negotiating and decision-making. After the simulation students completed a survey, the results of which were quantitatively analyzed and are described in the paper. Face-to-face interviews with the students were also conducted and the findings are available below. The students learnt their strengths and weaknesses when performing in public, they were able to use their theoretical knowledge in practice and that helped them to understand it better.

Promoting Cultural Diversity in Higher Education

This paper, first, looks into what cultural diversity in higher education is. Secondly, it offers speculations on different attitudes of educators and students to multiculturalism because of certain myths that are also described and dispelled. Thirdly, the author dwells on types of programs that may help maintain cultural diversity in universities. Finally, the author focuses on the contribution of the National Research University HSE （＂Higher School of Economics＂） to promoting multiculturalism, mostly on arranging international online forums to bring two and more cultures together. When analyzing the forum content, communication strategies used by the students were determined and described.

Hidden Properties of Mathematical Physics Equations. Double Solutions. The Realization of Integrable Structures. Emergence of Physical Structures and Observable Formations

With the help of skew-symmetric differential forms the hidden properties of the mathematical physics equations are revealed. It is shown that the equations of mathematical physics can describe the emergence of various structures and formations such as waves, vortices, turbulent pulsations and others. Such properties of the mathematical physics equations, which are hidden (they appear only in the process of solving these equations), depend on the consistency of derivatives in partial differential equations and on the consistency of equations, if the equations of mathematical physics are a set of equations. This is due to the integrability of mathematical physics equations. It is shown that the equations of mathematical physics can have double solutions, namely, the solutions on the original coordinate space and the solutions on integrable structures that are realized discretely (due to any degrees of freedom). The transition from the solutions of the first type to one of the second type describes discrete transitions and the processes of origin of various structures and observable formations. Only mathematical physics equations, on what no additional conditions such as the integrability conditions are imposed, can possess such properties. The results of the present paper were obtained with the help of skew-symmetric differential forms.

Spontaneous Emergence of Physical Structures and Observable Formations: Fluctuations, Waves, Turbulent Pulsations and So on

As it is known, the closed inexact exterior form and associated closed dual form make up a differential-geometrical structure. Such a differential-geometrical structure describes a physical structure, namely, a pseudostructure on which conservation laws are fulfilled (A closed dual form describes a pseudostructure. And a closed exterior form, as it is known, describes a conservative quantity, since the differential of closed form is equal to zero). It has been shown that closed inexact exterior forms, which describe physical structures, are obtained from the equations of mathematical physics. This process proceeds spontaneously under realization of any degrees of freedom of the material medium described. Such a process describes an emergence of physical structures and this is accompanied by an appearance of observed formations such as fluctuations, waves, turbulent pulsations and so on.

Connection between the Principles of Thermodynamics and the Conservation Laws: Physical Meaning of the Principles of Thermodynamics

It has been shown that the first principle of thermodynamics follows from the conservation laws for energy and linear momentum. And the second principle of thermodynamics follows from the first principle of thermodynamics under realization of the integrating factor (namely, temperature) and is a conservation law. The significance of the first principle of thermodynamics consists in the fact that it specifies the thermodynamic system state, which depends on interaction between conservation laws and is non-equilibrium due to a non-commutativity of conservation laws. The realization of the second principle of thermodynamics points to a transition of the thermodynamic system state into a locally-equilibrium state. Phase transitions are examples of such transitions.

The relevance of the topic lies in the fact that due to the economic, environmental and aesthetic benefits, mass low-rise construction in all regions of Russia is one of the priorities of state policy. National wealth, including landscapes and waters, should be preserved and used. It is necessary to revive small and medium-sized cities, which carry the main genetic stock of the country's culture. Low-rise construction opens up broad prospects for socio-economic development by creating jobs, increasing the current level of environmental comfort, improving environmental performance, and relative cheapness compared to the construction of multi-storey buildings. The territories allocated for low-rise buildings are based on consideration of ecological-geographical, medicalhygienic, landscape-planning and historical-cultural factors. Low-rise buildings exert extensive loads on the natural complex and do not cause irreversible changes.

Eight-Regularity of Types of Crop Capacity Structure of Winter Wheat

The elements of crop capacity structure of 13 summer characteristics in 33 winter wheat varieties, qualitative three-regularity and quantitative eight-regularity are investigated through the application of systematic approach. The principle of triadness applied in a language, in a genetic code and other codes is used, i.e. the logic homology is employed. The purpose are （1） to show the use of a systematic approach to the analysis of elements of crop capacity structure of winter wheat; （2） to analyze efficiency, the years of harvests and winter hardiness; （3） to find the way of selection and varieties assessment in terms of the elements efficiency. The quantitative compatibility as the highest with the sign ＂＋＂ and the lowest with the sign ＂-＂ in terms of elements efficiency gives eight types of crop capacities. The type of crop capacity structure ＂＋＋＋＂ can serve as a full （higher） measure of a variety adaptableness and optimality of technologies. The triad of three characteristics as a type-＂＋＋＋＂ in which the first sign is the quantity of ears （QE）; the second is a quantity of grains （QG）; the third is the weight of grains （WG） creates the highest level of crop capacity.
