Stromal cell-derived factor-1α promotes recruitment and differentiation of nucleus pulposus-derived stem cells

BACKGROUND Intervertebral disc(IVD) degeneration is a condition characterized by a reduction in the water and extracellular matrix content of the nucleus pulposus(NP) and is considered as one of the dominating contributing factors to low back pain. Recent evidence suggests that stromal cell-derived factor 1α(SDF-1α) and its receptor CX-C chemokine receptor type 4(CXCR4) direct the migration of stem cells associated with injury repair in different musculoskeletal *** To investigate the effects of SDF-1α on recruitment and chondrogenic differentiation of nucleus pulposus-derived stem cells(NPSCs).METHODS We performed real-time RT-PCR and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to examine the expression of SDF-1α in nucleus pulposus cells after treatment with pro-inflammatory cytokines in vitro. An animal model of IVD degeneration was established using annular fibrosus puncture in rat coccygeal discs. Tissue samples were collected from normal control and degeneration *** in the expression of SDF-1α between the normal and degenerative IVDs were analyzed by immunohistochemistry. The migration capacity of NPSCs induced by SDF-1α was evaluated using wound healing and transwell migration assays. To determine the effect of SDF-1α on chondrogenic differentiation of NPSCs, we conducted cell micromass culture and examined the expression levels of Sox-9, aggrecan, and collagen II. Moreover, the roles of SDF-1/CXCR4 axis in the migration and chondrogenesis differentiation of NPSCs were analyzed by immunofluorescence, immunoblotting, and real-time *** SDF-1α was significantly upregulated in the native IVD cells cultured in vitro with pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α, mimicking the degenerative settings. Porous organic cages(POCs)with permanent porosity and excellent host–guest property hold great potentials in regulating ion transport behavior,yet their feasibility as solid-state electrolytes has never been testified in a practical ***,we design and fabricate a quasi-solid-state electrolyte(QSSE)based on a POC to enable the stable operation of Li-metal batteries(LMBs).Benefiting from the ordered channels and cavity-induced anion-trapping effect of POC,the resulting POC-based QSSE exhibits a high Li+transference number of 0.67 and a high ionic conductivity of 1.25×10^(−4) S cm^(−1) with a low activation energy of 0.17 *** allow for homogeneous Li deposition and highly reversible Li plating/stripping for over 2000 *** a proof of concept,the LMB assembled with POC-based QSSE demonstrates extremely stable cycling performance with 85%capacity retention after 1000 ***,our work demonstrates the practical applicability of POC as SSEs for LMBs and could be extended to other energy-storage systems,such as Na and K batteries.

Continuous preparation of pyromellitic dianhydride(PMDA) from durene has been studied using a fixedbed reactor. The reaction was performed using a phosphorus-vanadium-titanium ternary *** high selectivity and yield of PMDA was obtained. Steganography algorithm for adaptive multi-rate wideband speech based on algebraic codebook search

With the popularity of adaptive multi-rate wideband （AMR-WB） audio in mobile communication, many AMR- WB based techniques, such as a similar compression architecture to transmit secret information during the process of compression, were proposed to transmit covert messages. However, if a sender does not have the original waveform audio format （WAV） audio, the architecture cannot be used. In this paper, a new covert message method, which takes effect after WAV audio is compressed into AMR-WB speech, is proposed. This method takes advantage of algebraic codebook search. Aiming at improving speed and reducing search space, it does not perform algebraic codebook search using the optimal search algorithm, and it does not reach the positions of non-zero pulses via depth-first tree search that characterizes the energy of audio. According to the features of search methods and the codebook index construction, every track in each subframe is analyzed to find the proper positions for embedding secret information. Experimental results show that the proposed method has satisfactory capacity and simplicity regardless of compression process.

Characteristics and comfort evaluation of sinusoidal airflows by regulating motor rotating frequency of a floor fan

Increasing air movement by utilizing electric fans is among the common approaches for comfort and energy savings in buildings in summer;however,the use of electric fans is usually the forced constant *** study reformed the one-chip computer program of a floor fan motor and simulated dynamic airflow through controlling the rotating frequency *** flow field characteristics of constant,oscillated,sinusoidal airflows with periods of 10 s,30 s,60 s,100 s were *** comfort performance was evaluated by chamber experiments,with 20 subjects exposed to six airflow patterns under 30℃,70%*** results showed that the simulated sinusoidal airflows had relatively higher turbulence intensity(32%–37%)andβvalues(>0.4).While subjects’thermal sensations were not statistically significant among six airflows,their reported discomfort symptoms during 60 min exposure were reduced under sinusoidal *** calculated convective heat transfer shared similar variations to instantaneous air velocity and skin temperature.A large fluctuation of 10–50 W/m^(2)and higher total convective heat loss(3000–3500 W/m^(2))were found for sinusoidal period 30 *** study develops a new method to simulate varying air velocities through conveniently controlling the fan motor amplitude and frequency,and verifies the comfortable feelings to dynamic sinusoidal *** work benefits to improve the performance of the current electric fans with lower costs and promote the applications of personal ventilation devices in buildings,thus optimizing human thermal comfort,reducing dependences on air conditionings and achieving building energy efficiency.

Boosting the performance of deep-ultraviolet photodetector arrays based on phase-transformed heteroepitaxial β-Ga_(2)O_(3) films for solar-blind imaging

Solar-blind imaging has attracted considerable interest in both military and civilian applications,spurring the development of high-performance deep-ultraviolet photodetector arrays(PDAs) with wide-bandgap semiconductor ***,we present a novel method to enhance the performance of solar-blind PDAs(SBPDs) using β-Ga_(2)O_(3) films obtained by the phase transition of heterogeneous epitaxial sub-stable ε-Ga_(2)O_(3),achieved through high-temperature rapid ***-semiconductor-metaltype SBPDs based on phase-transformed β-Ga_(2)O_(3) films exhibited superior performance,including an ultrahigh responsivity of 459.38 A/W,detectivity of 10^(14)–10^(15) Jones,external quantum efficiency of 10^(4)%–10^(5)%,rejection ratio(R_(254)/R_(365)) of 10^(5)–10^(6),photo-to-dark current ratio of 10^(4)–10^(6),fast response speed of 1.01 s/0.06 s,and favorable ***,the ultrahigh responsivity of β-Ga_(2)O_(3)-film-based devices was approximately 222-fold higher than that of ε-Ga_(2)O_(3) film-based *** assembled 4×5 β-Ga_(2)O_(3) film-based PDAs exhibited favorable uniformity,repeatability,and high spatial resolution for solarblind *** study offers a promising approach for the development of high-performance β-Ga_(2)O_(3)-based PDAs for solarblind ultraviolet imaging with potential applications in both military and civilian fields.
