Gibberellins,brassinolide,and ethylene signaling were involved in flower differentiation and development in Nelumbo nucifera

Hormones play important roles in vegetative and reproductive processes;however,the regulatory roles of hormones in Nelumbo nucifera(Lotus)growth and development are unclear.In this study,nine types of endogenous hormones,including gibberellins(GA_1,GA_3,and GA_4),indole-3-acetic acid(IAA),brassinolide(BR),ethylene(ETH),jasmonic acid(JA),abscisic acid(ABA),and zeatin(ZT)were detected in dormant shoot tips,vegetative shoot tips,developing leaf buds,and developing flower buds of lotus.The results indicated that GA,ETH,and BR signaling can promote vegetative and reproductive development of lotus.GA signaling regulates plant height and stimulates flower bud differentiation.GA levels were the highest in the flower buds;exogenous GA3+4 increased plant height by approximately 90%,increased flower quantity by nearly 40%,and advanced flowering by 4 d.Suppressing GA biosynthesis using paclobutrazol decreased plant height and flower quantity by 38%and 87.1%,respectively,and delayed flowering by 15.6 d.ETH signaling has positive regulatory effects on vegetative growth and flower development.The ETH concentration in the developing leaf buds was at least 50%higher than that in other samples.Ethephon spraying led to remarkable increases in plant height and leaf thickness and extended the flowering duration.BR signaling acts as a growth promoter during vegetative and reproductive development in lotus.The highest BR levels were detected in the vegetative shoot tips.External application of28-epihomobrassinolide resulted in growth-promoting phenotypes including longer scapes,thicker leaves,and prolonged flowering.

Si-induced insertion of Li into SiC to form Li-rich SiC twin crystal

The energy density of Li-ion batteries is closely related to the capacity and average voltage of cathode materials.Unfortunately,current cathode materials either have low capacity or voltage,which limits the development of high-energy-density Li-ion batteries.This has given challenge to many attempts to develop new cathode materials with high capacity and voltage.In this study,we find that Li easily inserts into the(111)plane of SiC in the presence of Si,and a well-organized Li-rich SiC twin crystal is formed.Ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectra and electrochemical test results suggest that this Li-rich SiC twin crystal possesses the band gap energy of 3.5 eV and charging capacity of 1979 mAh/g at the current density of 200 mA/g,making it a promising candidate for the cathode material in high-capacity Li-ion batteries.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy results reveal that Si-induced Li insertion contributes to the changes in the surface species and structure of pristine SiC.These findings suggest that the Li-rich SiC twin crystal raises new possibilities for the development of high-capacity cathode materials and merits further investigation to expand its application scope.

disinfection byproducts in indoor swimming pool water: Detection and human lifetime health risk assessment

Quantification of regulated and emerging disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in swimming pool water,as well as the assessment of their lifetime health risk are limited in China.In this study,the occurrence of regulated DBPs (e.g.,trihalomethanes,haloacetic acids) and emerging DBPs (e.g.,haloacetonitriles,haloacetaldehydes) in indoor swimming pool water and the corresponding source water at a city in Eastern China were determined.The concentrations of DBPs in swimming pool water were 1-2 orders of magnitude higher than that in source water.Lifetime cancer and non-cancer risks of DBPs stemming from swimming pool water were also estimated.Inhalation and dermal exposure were the most significant exposure routes related to swimming pool DBP cancer and non-cancer risks.For the first time,buccal and aural exposure were considered,and were proven to be important routes of DBP exposure (accounting for 17.9%-38.9%of total risk).The cancer risks of DBPs for all swimmers were higher than 10^(-6)of lifetime exposure risk recommended by United States Environmental Protection Agency,and the competitive adult swimmers experienced the highest cancer risk (7.82×10^(-5)).These findings provide important information and perspectives for future efforts to lower the health risks associated with exposure to DBPs in swimming pool water.

Optimal predictive sliding-mode guidance law for intercepting near-space hypersonic maneuvering target

The design of optimal guidance law for intercepting a near-space hypersonic maneuvering target with bounded inputs is considered. Firstly, a maneuvering model for near-space hypersonic aircraft is given. Then, the aircraft acceleration prediction can be obtained using this model with two neural networks. By using the target acceleration prediction, which is taken into account when calculating the Zero Effort Miss(ZEM), an optimal sliding-mode guidance law is proposed to fulfill the guidance task. An adaptive sliding-mode switch term is designed to deal with actuator saturation and prediction errors. Finally, numerical simulations show that the proposed guidance law can reduce the energy consumption and the terminal acceleration command of the interceptor effectively.

Mechanical properties,corrosion behavior and microstructure evolution of zinc and scandium co-strengthened 5xxx alloy

Nowadays,it is a challenge to improve the strength of 5xxx aluminium alloy while maintaining its distinctive properties.To address this,the Zn and Sc modified high strength 5xxx aluminium alloys with good intergranular corrosion resistance were prepared through chill casting,and the effects of minor Sc on mechanical properties,corrosion behavior and microstructure evolution of Al-5.0Mg-3.0Zn alloys were systematically investigated.The results show that the Sc containing alloy has high number density and small size of intragranular precipitates,combined with the solid solution strengthening of Sc and the Al_(3)(Sc_(1-x),Zr_(x))second phase strengthening,the strength of Al-5.0Mg-3.0Zn-0.1Sc alloy is obviously enhanced.Meanwhile,the intergranular corrosion resistance of the Sc containing alloy is also improved due to the formation of a large number of low angle grain boundaries and the weakening of the continuity of precipitated phases along the grain boundaries.

n-Type Semiconductive Polymers Based on Pyrene-1,5,6,10-Tetracarboxyl diimide

Donor-acceptor(D-A)conjugated polymers comprising electron-deficient aromatic dicarboximide units represent an important type of organic semiconductors,especially for electron transporting properties.Pyrene-1,5,6,10-tetracarboxyl diimide(Pydi),a new PAH dicarboximide molecule recently reported by us,provides a fine balance between the electron-stabilizing ability andπ-stacking tendency,as compared to the naphthalenediimide(Ndi)and perylenediimide(Pdi)analogues.In this study,using thienylene-vinylene-thienylene(TVT)and biselenophene(BS)as the electron donating comonomer,along with Pydi as the acceptor moiety,we develop two new D-A type conjugated polymers,which exhibit impressive electron-transporting performance.Specifically,in the solution-processed OFET devices,electron mobility of 0.18 and 0.20 cm^(2)·V^(−1)·s^(−1) are achieved with these polymers,respectively.Such findings further prove the optimal potential of Pydi for application as an electron-acceptor building block in the development of polymeric n-type semiconductors among all various high-performance functional D-A polymers.

Uniquely Decomposable Constellation Group-Based Sparse Vector Coding for Short Packet Communications

Sparse vector coding(SVC)is emerging as a potential technology for short packet communications.To further improve the block error rate(BLER)performance,a uniquely decomposable constellation group-based SVC(UDCG-SVC)is proposed in this article.Additionally,in order to achieve an optimal BLER performance of UDCG-SVC,a problem to optimize the coding gain of UDCG-based superimposed constellation is formulated.Given the energy of rotation constellations in UDCG,this problem is solved by converting it into finding the maximized minimum Euclidean distance of the superimposed constellation.Simulation results demonstrate the validness of our derivation.We also find that the proposed UDCGSVC has better BLER performance compared to other SVC schemes,especially under the high order modulation scenarios.

Summary What is already known about this topic?Cervical cancer is a significant public health problem with approximately 570,000 cases and 311,000 deaths occurring in 2018 globally.It is imperative to raise awareness of cervical cancer and human papillomavirus(HPV).What is added by this report?Compared to previous studies,this is one of the largest cross-sectional studies of cervical cancer and HPV in Chinese adult females in recent years.We found that knowledge level of cervical cancer and HPV vaccine was still inadequate among women aged 20–45 years old,and the willingness to receive HPV vaccination was highly associated with knowledge level.What are the implications for public health practice?Intervention programs should aim to improve awareness and knowledge about cervical cancer and HPV vaccines,primarily focusing on women of lower socio-economic status.

The significance of resource recycling for coking wastewater treatment:based on environmental and economic life cycle assessment

The sustainability of the coking industry is supported by reasonable production profit and environmental quality requirements.The traditional measures substantially increased the related costs for enterprises to reach standards.This paper aims to develop a comprehensive cost combined environmental impact assessment method that is necessary for the analysis of wastewater treatment systems.Typical three coking wastewater treatment processes in China were evaluated.Results showed that eutrophication dominantly contributed to the overall environmental effect.Improving effluent quality could significantly reduce the total environmental impact.In terms of an economic perspective,the price of raw materials was the main factor that affected the operating cost of comprehensive treatment.Based on subsystem analysis,the pretreatment stage accounted for the majority of environmental and cost burdens,respectively reaching 64%-78%and 64%-86%.Optimizing the pretreatment process by enhancing the efficiency of high concentration raw material recovery and substituting toxic raw materials for extractant could reduce the environmental impact and economic cost by 43.8%and 57%,respectively,which was an effective way to improve the potential performance of coking wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs).
