Efficient degradation of aqueous dichloromethane by an enhanced microbial electrolysis cell:Degradation kinetics,microbial community and metabolic mechanisms

dichloromethane(DCM)has been listed as a toxic and harmful water pollutant,and its re moval needs attention.Microbial electrolysis cells(MECs)are viewed as a promising alterna tive for pollutant removal,which can be strengthened from two aspects:microbial inocula tion and acclimation.In this study,the MEC for DCM degradation was inoculated with the ac tive sludge enhanced by Methylobacterium rhodesianum H13(strain H13)and then acclimated in the form of a microbial fuel cell(MFC).Both the introduction of strain H13 and the initi ation in MFC form significantly promoted DCM degradation.The degradation kinetics were fitted by the Haldane model,with V_(max),K_(h),K_(i)and v_(max)values of 103.2 mg/L/hr,97.8 mg/L268.3 mg/L and 44.7 mg/L/hr/cm^(2),respectively.The cyclic voltammogram implies that DCM redox reactions became easier with the setup of MEC,and the electrochemical impedance spectrogram shows that the acclimated and enriched microbes reduced the charge transfe resistance from the electrode to the electrolyte.In the biofilm,the dominant genera shifted from Geobacter to Hyphomicrobium in acclimation stages.Moreover,Methylobacterium played an increasingly important role.DCM metabolism mainly occurred through the hydrolytic glutathione S-transferase pathway,given that the gene dcmA was identified rather than the dhlA and P450/MO.The exogenous electrons facilitated the reduction of GSSG,directly o indirectly accelerating the GSH-catalyzed dehalogenation.This study provides support fo the construction of an efficient and stable MEC for DCM removal in water environment.

The global energy-related CO_(2) emissions have rapidly increased as the world economy heavily relied on fossil fuels.This paper explores the pressing challenge of CO_(2) emissions and highlights the role of porous metal oxide materials in the electrocatalytic reduction of CO_(2)(CO_(2)RR).The focus is on the development of robust and selective catalysts,particularly metal and metal-oxide-based materials.Porous metal oxides offer high surface area,enhancing the accessibility to active sites and improving reaction kinetics.The tunability of these materials allows for tailored catalytic behavior,targeting optimized reaction mechanisms for CO_(2)RR.The work also discusses the various synthesis strategies and identifies key structural and compositional features,addressing challenges like high overpotential,poor selectivity,and low stability.Based on these insights,we suggest avenues for future research on porous metal oxide materials for electrochemical CO_(2) reduction.

Abnormal metabolism is regarded as an oncogenic hallmark related to tumor progression and therapeutic resistance.Present study employed multi-omics,including phosphoproteomics,untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics,to demonstrate that the pAKT2 Ser128 and pCCTαSer315/319/323-positive cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAFs)substantially release phosphatidylcholines(PCs),contributing to the resistance of focal adhesion kinase(FAK)inhibitors in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)treatment.Additionally,we observed extremely low levels of FAK Tyr397 expression in CAFs,potentially offering no available target for FAK inhibitors playing their anti-growth role in CAFs.Consequently,FAK inhibitor increased the intracellular concentration of Ca2+in CAFs,promoting the formation of AKT2/CCTαcomplex,leading to phosphorylation of CCTαSer315/319/323 sites and eventually enhancing stromal PC production.This activation could stimulate the intratumoral Janus kinase 2(JAK2)/Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3)pathway,triggering resistance to FAK inhibition.Analysis of clinical samples demonstrated that stromal pAKT2 Ser128 and pCCTαSer315/319/323 are related to the tumor malignancy and reduced patient survival.Pseudo-targeted lipidomics and further validation cohort quantitatively showed that plasma PCs enable to distinguish the malignant extent of ESCC patients.In conclusion,inhibition of stroma-derived PCs and related pathway could be possible therapeutic strategies for tumor therapy.

Social dysfunction is a risk factor for several neuropsychiatric illnesses.Previous studies have shown that the lateral septum(LS)-related pathway plays a critical role in mediating social behaviors.Howeve r,the role of the connections between the LS and its downstream brain regions in social behavio rs remains unclea r.In this study,we conducted a three-chamber test using electrophysiological and chemogenetic approaches in mice to determine how LS projections to ventral CA1(vCA1)influence sociability.Our res ults showed that gamma-aminobutyric acid(GABA)-e rgic neuro ns were activated following social experience,and that social behavio rs were enhanced by chemogenetic modulation of these neurons.Moreover,LS GABAergic neurons extended their functional neural connections via vCA1 glutamatergic pyramidal neurons,and regulating LSGABA→vCA1Gluneural projections affected social behaviors,which were impeded by suppressing LSprojecting vCA1 neuronal activity or inhibiting GABAAreceptors in vCA1.These findings support the hypothesis that LS inputs to the vCA1 can control social prefe rences and social novelty behaviors.These findings provide new insights rega rding the neural circuits that regulate sociability.

Resource Allocation in Multi-User Cellular Networks:A Transformer-Based Deep Reinforcement Learning Approach

To meet the communication services with diverse requirements,dynamic resource allocation has shown increasing importance.In this paper,we consider the multi-slot and multi-user resource allocation(MSMU-RA)in a downlink cellular scenario with the aim of maximizing system spectral efficiency while guaranteeing user fairness.We first model the MSMURA problem as a dual-sequence decision-making process,and then solve it by a novel Transformerbased deep reinforcement learning(TDRL)approach.Specifically,the proposed TDRL approach can be achieved based on two aspects:1)To adapt to the dynamic wireless environment,the proximal policy optimization(PPO)algorithm is used to optimize the multi-slot RA strategy.2)To avoid co-channel interference,the Transformer-based PPO algorithm is presented to obtain the optimal multi-user RA scheme by exploring the mapping between user sequence and resource sequence.Experimental results show that:i)the proposed approach outperforms both the traditional and DRL methods in spectral efficiency and user fairness,ii)the proposed algorithm is superior to DRL approaches in terms of convergence speed and generalization performance.

As a ceramic material,AlN has very good thermophysical and mechanical properties.In addition,AlN is an effective refining agent for Mg alloys because it has a lattice constant similar to that of Mg.Therefore,AlN is an ideal reinforcement for magnesium matrix composites(MMCs),and is attracting increasing attention.This review addresses the development of preparation technologies for AlN-reinforced Mg matrix composites.The mainstream preparation techniques include stir casting,melt infiltration,powder metallurgy,and in-situ methods.In addition,the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques are analyzed in depth,and it is pointed out that the next direction for the preparation of high-performance AlN-reinforced MMCs is less aluminization and multiple technologies integration.

In this paper,we review some existing control methodologies for complex systems with particular emphasis on those that are near critical.Due to the shortage of the classical control theory in handling complex systems,the reviewed control methods are mainly associated with machine learning techniques,game-theoretical approaches,and sparse control strategies.Additionally,several interesting and promising directions for future research are also proposed.

Retrospect and prospect on integration of gain and phase for feedback stability analysis

In this paper,we review existing approaches to integrating small gain and small phase analysis for feedback stability of dynamical systems,and give a brief outlook for possible future directions in exploring this topic.Small gain analysis has been very successful and popular in control theory since 1960s,while the small phase analysis for multiple-input-multiple-output systems has not been well understood until recently and is now gradually taking shape.Nevertheless,there have been attempts to analyzing feedback stability via the integration of gain and phase information over decades,including the combination of small gain with positive realness as well as that with negative imaginariness.Such combinations can be subsumed into a recently proposed framework for gain-phase integration,which brings in new geometrical methods and also sheds new lights on several future directions.

ObjectiveTo provide comprehensive evidence for the anti-cancer cachexia effect of Jianpi Decoction(JP)and to explore its mechanism of anti-cancer cachexia.MethodsA mouse model of colon cancer(CT26)-induced cancer cachexia(CC)was used to investigate the anti-CC effect of JP combined with medroxyprogesterone acetate(MPA).Thirty-six mice were equally divided into 6 groups:normal control,CC,MPA(100 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1)),MPA+low-dose(20 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1))JP(L-JP),MPA+medium-dose(30 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1))JP(M-JP),and MPA+high-dose(40 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1))JP(H-JP)groups.After successful modeling,the mice were administered by gavage for 11 d.The body weight and tumor volume were measured and recorded every 2 d starting on the 8th day after implantation.The liver,heart,spleen,lung,kidney,tumor and gastrocnemius muscle of mice were collected and weighed.The pathological changes of the tumor was observed,and the cross-sectional area of the gastrocnemius muscle was calculated.The protein expressions of STAT3 and E3 ubiquitinase in the gastrocnemius muscle were measured by Western blot.In addition,an in vitro C2C12 myotube formation model was established to investigate the role of JP in hindering dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy.In vitro experiments were divided into control,model,and JP serum groups.After 2-d administration,microscopic photographs were taken and myotube diameters were calculated.Western blot was performed to measure the protein expressions of STAT3 and E3 ubiquitinase.ResultsJP combined with MPA restored tumor-induced weight loss(Pdition,JP reduced the expression of atrophy-related proteins MuRF1 and MAFbx and p-STAT3 phosphorylation(Pditions.In addition,the

Numerical study of the kinematic and acoustic characteristics of bubble clusters

direct numerical simulations are performed to study single gas/vapor bubble and spherical bubble clusters containing 13–352 vapor bubbles in compressible flow fields.The numerical results show that the single cavitation bubble keeps spherical during the collapse process,and the far-field acoustic pressure calculated by the Ffowcs William-Hawkings(FW-H)formulation is basically consistent with the analytical solution obtained based on the volume acceleration calculation.However,the spherical bubble cluster collapses layer by layer due to the strong coupling between bubbles.The closer to the center of the bubble cluster,the shorter the collapse time and the stronger the non-spherical deformation.The collapse of a bubble cluster would generate multiple acoustic pressure peaks,which cannot be accurately predicted by the volume fluctuation sound source theory.The size and volume fraction of the bubble cluster have a significant influence on the collapse time and the distribution of sound pressure.We found that when the volume fraction of a bubble cluster is large,the total collapse time is basically the same as that of its corresponding single bubble with the equal volume.The frequency distribution of sound pressure of a dense bubble cluster is also close to that of its corresponding single bubble.In addition,we found that a bubble cluster with randomly distributed bubble diameters collapses asymmetrically and rebounds in the late stage of the collapse process.The above study reveals part of the mechanism of bubble cluster collapse and sound generation,and provides a theoretical basis for the establishment of cavitation noise model.
