Characteristics of extratropical cyclone variability in the Northern Hemisphere and their response to rapid changes in Arctic sea ice

Extratropical cyclones are critical weather systems that affect large-scale weather and climate changes at mid-high latitudes.However,prior research shows that there are still great difficulties in predicting extratropical cyclones for occurrence,frequency,and position.In this study,mean sea level pressure(MSLP)data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts(ECMWF)reanalysis(ERA5)are used to calculate the variance statistics of the MSLP to reveal extratropical cyclone activity(ECA).Based on the analysis of the change characteristics of ECA in the Northern Hemisphere,the intrinsic link between ECA in the Northern Hemisphere and Arctic sea ice is explored.The results show that the maximum ECA mainly occurs in winter over the mid-high latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere.The maximum ECA changes in the North Pacific and the North Atlantic,which are the largest variations in the Northern Hemisphere,are independent of each other,and their mechanisms may be different.Furthermore,MSLP is a significant physical variable that affects ECA.The North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO)and North Pacific Index(NPI)are significant indices that impact ECA in the North Atlantic and North Pacific,respectively.The innovation of this paper is to explore the relationship between the activity of extratropical cyclones in the Northern Hemisphere and the abnormal changes in Arctic sea ice for the first time.The mechanism is that the abnormal changes in summer-autumn and winter Arctic sea ice lead to the phase transition of the NPI and NAO,respectively,and then cause the occurrence of ECA in the North Pacific and North Atlantic,respectively.Arctic sea ice plays a crucial role in the ECA in the Northern Hemisphere by influencing the polar vortex and westerly jets.This is the first exploration of ECAs in the Northern Hemisphere using Arctic sea ice,which can provide some references for the in-depth study and prediction of ECAs in the Northern Hemisphere.

Macroporous hydrogels are water-swollen polymer networks with porous structures beyond the mesh size.They provide high specific surface areas and hieratical mass transfer channels which are desired for emerging applications including cell culturing,bio-separation,and drug delivery.A variety of approaches have been developed to fabricate macroporous hydrogels,including gas foaming,porogen templating,phase separation,3D printing,etc.Alternatively,ice templating utilizes the crystallization of water as the porogenation mechanism which doesn't need the leaching of porogens.

Structural characteristics and drivers of greenhouse gas emissions at county-level and long-time scales:A case study of the Anji County,China

To achieve carbon neutrality,the Chinese government needs to gain a comprehensive understanding of the sources and drivers of greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions,particularly at the county level.Anji County in eastern China is a typical example of an industrial transformation from quarrying to a low-carbon economy.This study analyzed the decoupling types and structural characteristics of GHG emissions and the driving factors of carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions in the Anji from 2006 to 2019,and explored the differences between countylevel and provincial-level or city-level results.It was observed that energy-related activities are the main source of GHG emissions in Anji and that economic development is the driving factor behind the increasing CO_(2)emissions.However,industrial transformation and upgradation coupled with the alternative use of clean energy limit the growth of GHG emissions.This study details the GHG emissions of county during the industrial transformation stage and provides corresponding policy recommendations for county governments.

An intelligent MXene/MoS_(2)acoustic sensor with high accuracy for mechano-acoustic recognition

Auditory systems are the most efficient and direct strategy for communication between human beings and robots.In this domain,flexible acoustic sensors with magnetic,electric,mechanical,and optic foundations have attracted significant attention as key parts of future voice user interfaces(VUIs)for intuitive human–machine interaction.This study investigated a novel machine learning-based voice recognition platform using an MXene/MoS_(2) flexible vibration sensor(FVS)with high sensitivity for acoustic recognition.The performance of the MXene/MoS_(2) FVS was systematically investigated both theoretically and experimentally,and the MXene/MoS_(2) FVS exhibited high sensitivity(25.8 mV/dB).An MXene/MoS_(2) FVS with a broadband response of 40–3,000 Hz was developed by designing a periodically ordered architecture featuring systematic optimization.This study also investigated a machine learning-based speaker recognition process,for which a machine-learning-based artificial neural network was designed and trained.The developed neural network achieved high speaker recognition accuracy(99.1%).

The skeletal system,which contains bones,joints,tendons,ligaments and other elements,plays a wide variety of roles in body shaping,support and movement,protection of internal organs,production of blood cells and regulation of calcium and phosphate metabolism.The prevalence of skeletal diseases and disorders,such as osteoporosis and bone fracture,osteoarthritis,rheumatoid arthritis,and intervertebral disc degeneration,increases with age,causing pain and loss of mobility and creating a huge social and economic burden globally.Focal adhesions(FAs)are macromolecular assemblies that are composed of the extracellular matrix(ECM),integrins,intracellular cytoskeleton and other proteins,including kindlin,talin,vinculin,paxillin,pinch,Src,focal adhesion kinase(FAK)and integrin-linked protein kinase(ILK)and other proteins.FA acts as a mechanical linkage connecting the ECM and cytoskeleton and plays a key role in mediating cell–environment communications and modulates important processes,such as cell attachment,spreading,migration,differentiation and mechanotransduction,in different cells in skeletal system by impacting distinct outside-in and inside-out signaling pathways.This review aims to integrate the up-to-date knowledge of the roles of FA proteins in the health and disease of skeletal system and focuses on the specific molecular mechanisms and underlying therapeutic targets for skeletal diseases.

To the Editor:Collodion baby is a descriptive term for an extremely rare congenital condition characterized by the presence of parchment-like or cellophane-like membranes encompassing the whole body at birth.[1,2]The membrane usually peels off after several weeks,and the infant displays one of several ichthyosis skin types.Many complications,such as ectropion,eclabium,and restricted joint move-ments,are frequently seen in collodion babies due to the tight skin.

Osteoarthritis(OA)is a degenerative disease involving entire joint.It is often initiated from the low-grade inflammation in synovial tissue and then affects articular cartilage and subchondral bone.Multiple risk factors,such as aging,mechanical overloading,trauma,overuse,etc.are involved in OA development.Several approaches have been utilized to repair cartilage defects.Among them,biomaterials-based mes-enchymal stromal cell(MSCs)therapy is considered as the most promising modality.The burgeoning material science and manufacturing technologies,such as 3D printing,allow us to mimic native articu-lar cartilage and regulate the artificial cartilage development,regeneration and functional restoration.In this review article,we will summarize the recent progress of biomaterials combined with MSCs or chon-drocytes in repairing cartilage damage induced by OA.Several typical natural and synthetic biomaterials,such as collagen,alginate,hyaluronic acid and poly(ethylene glycol),polylactide acid,polyurethane,etc.for cartilage repairing will be introduced.Moreover,critical signaling pathways associated with the pro-gression of OA,as well as the targeted pharmacologic,genetic therapies and tissue engineering scaffolds for OA and cartilage repairing are presented.We will also provide our prospects for future directions in this active research area.

Extreme Risk Measurement of Carbon Market Considering Multifractal Characteristics

Influenced by the global economy,politics,energy and other factors,the price of carbon market fluctuates sharply.It is of great practical significance to explore a suitable measurement method of extreme risk of carbon market.Considering that the return series of carbon market has the characteristics of leptokurtosis,fat tail,skewness and multifractal,and there maybe many extreme risk values in the carbon market,this paper introduces the Skewed-t distribution which can describe the characteristics of leptokurtosis,fat tail and skewness of return series into MSM model which can describe multifractal characteristic of return series to model volatility of carbon market.On the basis,based on the extreme value theory,this paper constructs Skewed-t-MSM-EVT model to measure extreme risk of carbon market.This paper chooses EUA market as the object to study extreme risk of carbon market,and draws the following conclusions:Skewed-t-MSM-EVT model has significantly higher prediction accuracy for carbon market's Va R than MSM-EVT models under other distributions(including normal distribution,t distribution,GED distribution);Skewed-t-MSM-EVT model is superior to traditional Skewed-t-FIGARCH-EVT and Skewed-t-GARCH-EVT models in predicting carbon market's Va R.This research has important practical significance for accurately grasping the risk of carbon market and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction.

A novel optimal data fusion algorithm and its application for the integrated navigation system of missile

For Inertial Navigation System(INS)/Celestial Navigation System(CNS)/Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)integrated navigation system of the missile,the performance of data fusion algorithms based on the Cubature Kalman Filter(CKF)is seriously degraded when there are non-Gaussian noise and process-modeling errors in the system model.Therefore,a novel method is proposed,which is called Optimal Data Fusion algorithm based on the Adaptive Fading maximum Correntropy generalized high-degree CKF(AFCCKF-ODF).First,the Adaptive Fading maximum Correntropy generalized high-degree CKF(AFCCKF)is proposed and used as the local filter for the INS/GNSS and INS/CNS subsystems to improve the robustness of local state estimation.Then,the local state estimation is fused based on the minimum variance principle and highdegree cubature criterion to get the globally optimal state.Finally,the experimental results verify that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the robustness of the missile-borne INS/CNS/GNSS integrated navigation system to non-Gaussian noise and process modeling error and obtain the global optimal navigation information.
