BACKGROUND： Lots of evidences have demonstrated that acute inflammatory reaction plays an important role in cerebral ischemia and cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Tumor necrosis factor （TNF）, as one of important inflammatory cytokines, also participates in the injury. OBJECTIVE： To observe the changes in TNF-α expression and myeloperoxidase （MPO） activity of mouse models of local cerebral infarction induced by photochemical method, and analyze the correlation of TNF-α expression and MPO activity. DESIGN： Randomized controlled experiment. SETTING： Laboratory of Cerebral Microcirculation, Taishan Medical College. MATERIALS： Sixty involved male adult Kunming mice were provided by the Experimental Animal Center of Shandong University. TNF-α primary antibody, kits for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay（ELISA） and streptavidin-biotin complex immunohistochemical dyeing kit were purchased from Boster Company（Wuhan）. MPO kit was purchased from Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute （Nanjing）. Cold light source was developed by Hengfa Co.,Ltd.（ LG-150, Xuzhou）. METHODS： This experiment was carried out in the Laboratory of Cerebral Microcirculation of Taishan Medical College between July 2004 and July 2005. The involved 60 Kumning mice were randomized into 3 groups： normal control group （n =6）, sham-operation group （n =6） and model group （n =48）. Mice in the model group were observed at 30 minutes, 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours after illumination, separately, 6 mice at each time point. In the model group, mice models of local cerebral infarction were developed as follows： The mice were anesthetized to expose left skulls. Taking 2 mm left to sagittal suture and 2 mm posterior to coronal suture as center, a field with diameter of 3 mm for illumination was set. There are well-established chemical and turbidity anomalies in the plumes occurring vicinity of hydrothermal vents, which are used to indicate their existence and locations. We here develop a small, accurate multi-channel chemical sensor to detect such anomalies which can be used in deep-sea at depths of more than 4 000 m. The design allowed five all-solid-state electrodes to be mounted on it and each (apart from one reference electrode) could be changed according to chemicals to be measured. Two experiments were conducted using the chemical sensors. The first was a shallow-sea trial which included sample measurements and in situ monitoring. pH, Eh, CO3^2- and SO4^2- electrodes were utilized to demonstrate that the chemical sensor was accurate and stable outside the laboratory. In the second experiment, the chemical sensor was integrated with pH, Eh, CO3^2- and H2S electrodes, and was used in 29 scans of the seabed along the Southwest Indian Ridge (SWIR) to detect hydrothermal vents, from which 27 sets of valid data were obtained. Hydrothermal vents were identified by analyzing the chemical anomalies, the primary judging criteria were decreasing voltages of Eh and H2S, matched by increasing voltages of pH and CO3^2- . We proposed that simultaneous detection of changes in these parameters will indicate a hydrothermal vent. Amongst the 27 valid sets of data, five potential hydrothermal vents were targeted using the proposed method. We suggest that our sensors could be widely employed by marine scientists.

Amplitudes, rates, periodicities, causes and future trends of temperature variations based on tree rings for the past 2485 years on the central-eastern Tibetan Plateau were analyzed. The results showed that extreme climatic events on the Plateau, such as the Medieval Warm Period, Little Ice Age and 20th Century Warming appeared synchronously with those in other places worldwide. The largest amplitude and rate of temperature change occurred during the Eastern Jin Event (343-425 AD), and not in the late 20th century. There were significant cycles of 1324 a, 800 a, 199 a, 110 a and 2-3 a in the 2485-year temperature series. The 1324 a, 800 a, 199 a and 110 a cycles are associated with solar activity, which greatly affects the Earth surface temperature. The long-term trends (>1000 a) of temperature were controlled by the millennium-scale cycle, and amplitudes were dominated by multi-century cycles. Moreover, cold intervals corresponded to sunspot minimums. The prediction indicated that the temperature will decrease in the future until to 2068 AD and then increase again.

Age hardening is often used to optimize the mechanical properties of as-deformed Mg-based materials in industry,whereas the improvement of strength is usually accompanied by the significant loss of ductility,which hinders the application of Mg-based materials in structural *** the present work,high strength-ductility synergy(the yield strength of 263±9 MPa,ultimate tensile strength of 398±7 MPa and elongation to fracture of 34%±1%)was realized in as-extruded AlN/AZ91 composites after optimiz-ing aging *** characterization shows that AlN particles induced a large number of geometrically necessary dislocations around the AlN/Mg interface during extrusion,which decreased the nucleation barrier and provided more heterogeneous nucleation sites forγ-Mg 17 Al 12 continuous ***,95%of residual dislocations in as-extruded AlN/AZ91 composites were annihilated dur-ing peak-aging,suppressing the growth and coarsening of continuous ***,high density of nano-sizedγ-Mg 17 Al 12 continuous precipitates was produced in as-extruded AlN/AZ91 composites af-ter *** tension,gliding dislocations bypassed sphericalγ-Mg 17 Al 12 nano-precipitates by Orowan looping rather than cutting mechanism,which induced a strong block on dislocation *** high yield strength was mainly attributed to the high density of non-shearableγ-Mg 17 Al 12 nano-precipitates with spherical morphology,which was different from other Mg-Al-based *** results of texture evolution and slip trace analysis demonstrated that the suppression of extension twinning and less basal slip was due to the enhanced activity of pyramidalc+aslip in as-extruded AlN/AZ91 com-posites after peak-aging during the room temperature tension,meanwhile,the dislocation density of as-extruded AlN/AZ91 composites was significantly decreased during peak-aging,then higher elongation to fracture was achieved.

Object representation based on local features is a topical subject in the domain of image understanding and computer vision. We discuss the defects of global features in present methods and the advantages of local features in object recognition, and briefly explore state-of-the-art recognition methods using local features, especially the main approaches of local feature extraction and object representation. To clearly explain these methods, the problem of local feature extraction is divided into feature region detection, feature region description, and feature space optimization. The main components and merits of these steps are presented. Technologies for object presentation are classified into three types: vector space, sliding window, and structure relationship models. Future development trends are discussed briefly.

Urinary albumin is an important diagnostic and prognostic marker for cardiorenal disease, Recent studies have shown that elevation of albumin excretion even in normal concentration range is associated with increased cardiorenal risk. Therefore, accurate measurement of urinary albumin in normal concentration range is necessary for clinical diagnosis. In this work, thiourea-functionalized silica nanoparticles are prepared and used for preconcentration of albumin in urine. The adsorbent with the analyte was then used for near-infrared diffuse reflectance spectroscopy measurement directly and partial least squares model was established for quantitative prediction. Forty samples were taken as calibration set for establishing PLS model and 17 samples were used for validation of the method. The correlation coefficient and the root mean squared error of cross validation is 0.9986 and 0.43, respectively. Residual predictive deviation value of the model is as high as 18.8. The recoveries of the 17 validation samples in the concentration range of 3.39-24.39 mg/L are between 95.9%-113.1%. Therefore. the method may urovide a candidate method to auantifv albumin excretion in urine_

BACKGROUND： The results showed that mirror writing （MW） was correlated with the development of written language, so that MW examination may be one of methods to examine the intelligence of elderly people. OBJECTIVE： To study the MW in elderly patients with Alzheimer disease （AD） and vascular dementia （VaD） and take appropriate scale for their evaluation. DESIGN： Taking the written portion of the Chinese Aphasia Examination Scale （1994） for assessment. SETTING： Department of Neurology, Neuropsychological Laboratory, Beijing Hospital. PARTICIPANTS： From March 1998 to January 2001, 33 patients with AD, 30 patients with VaD admitted into Department of Neurology, Beijing Hospital was enrolled into study. Criteria according to the diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental disorder, 4^th edition （DSM-Ⅳ）, published by the American Psychiatric Association was used to diagnose AD, while criteria according to the National Institute of Neurological disorders and Stroke-Association Internationale pour 1a Recherche et 1＇ Enseignement en Neurosciences （NINDS-AIREN） and Alzheimer disease diagnostic and Treatment Center （ADDCT） were used for diagnosis of VaD. AD group contained 19 males and 14 females aged 60 - 83 years. Twenty-eight males and 2 females, aged 60 - 87 years made up the VaD group. The 63 healthy elderly subjects matched on age and education as controls were enrolled into study. The matched controls were categorized AD control （n =33） and VaD control （n =30）. All patients and controls were understanding and agree with all items of assessment. METHODS： MW examination, Mini Mental State Examination （MMSE）, Hachinski Ischemic Scale, the Global Deterioration Scale （GDS） were examined in all subjects. ① Use the written potion of the Chinese Aphasia examination Scale （1994）, patient using MW for 91% - 100% of dictation had complete MW, those using MW for 51% - 90% of dictation had severe MW, those using MW for 11% - 50% had moderate MW, those using MW for 1% - 10

Pedestrian attribute classification with multi-scale and multi-label convolutional neural networks

Pedestrian attribute classification from a pedestrian image captured in surveillance scenarios is challenging due to diverse clothing appearances,varied poses and different camera views. A multiscale and multi-label convolutional neural network( MSMLCNN) is proposed to predict multiple pedestrian attributes simultaneously. The pedestrian attribute classification problem is firstly transformed into a multi-label problem including multiple binary attributes needed to be classified. Then,the multi-label problem is solved by fully connecting all binary attributes to multi-scale features with logistic regression functions. Moreover,the multi-scale features are obtained by concatenating those featured maps produced from multiple pooling layers of the MSMLCNN at different scales. Extensive experiment results show that the proposed MSMLCNN outperforms state-of-the-art pedestrian attribute classification methods with a large margin.
