Analysis of risk factors contributing to road traffic accidents in a tertiary care hospital. A hospital based cross-sectional study

Purpose: Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are a public health issue and cost a lot to individuals, families, communities and nations. Trauma care systems in India are at a nascent stage of development. There is gross disparity between trauma services available in various parts of the country. Rural area in India has inefficient services for trauma care, due to the varied topography, financial constraints, and lack of appropriate health infrastructure. The present study is to study the trends of occurrence of RTA cases by month, week and time of accident occurrence as well as to research the types of vehicle involved in accidents and other various risk factors related to them.Methods: During 1st January 2017 to 31st December 2017, a hospital-based and cross-sectional study of RTA victims was conducted. The patients were admitted in emergency department of Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, Etawah, when stabilized, they were shifted to the orthopaedics and surgery ward.Results: In the study, 654 road accident victims were included, of which the majority were males (77.5%) and the most of them belonged to rural (67%). RTA victims according to the month of occurrence majority were found in January (12.5%) and evening was time of a day with maximum accidents (32.1%). Mortality cases of RTA victims based on type of road user and it shows decreasing trend of mortality of motor-cyclists (54.2%) followed by pedestrian (25.1%).Conclusion: There should be control over people driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol and drivers over-speeding and rash driving on urban roads as well as rural village roads.

From source to emplacement:The origin of leucogranites from the Sikkim-Darjeeling Himalayas,India

Himalayan leucogranites are important for understanding the tectonic evolution of collision zones in general and the causes of crustal melting in the Himalayan orogen in particular.This paper aims to understand the melt source and emplacement age of the leucogranites from Sikkim in order to decipher the deep geodynamic processes of the eastern Himalayas.Zircon U-Pb analysis of the Higher Himalayan Sequence(HHS)metamorphic core reveals a prolonged period of crustal melting between>33 Ma and ca.14 Ma.Major and trace element abundances are presented for 27 leucogranites from North Sikkim that are classified into two-mica and tourmaline leucogranite types.They are peraluminous in composition,characterized by high SiO2(70.91-74.9 wt.%),Al2O3(13.69-15.82 wt.%),and low MgO(0.13-0.74 wt.%).Elemental abundances suggest that Sikkim Himalayan leucogranites are derived from crustal melts.The two-mica leucogranites are derived from a metagreywacke source,whereas the tourmaline leucogranites are sourced from metapelitic sources,with inherited zircons indicating an HHS origin for both types.U-Pb zircon geochronology of the two mica leucogranites indicates ages of ca.19-15 Ma,consistent with crustal melting recorded in HHS gneisses from Darjeeling.Monazites from both the two-mica and tourmaline leucogranites yield a crystallization age of ca.15-14 Ma,coeval with movement on the Main Central Thrust and South Tibetan Detachment System which further provides constraints on the timing and mechanism of petrogenesis of leucogranites in the Sikkim Himalayas.

Bile acids(BAs)serve as physiological detergents that enable the intestinal absorption and transportation of nutrients,lipids and vitamins.BAs are primarily produced by humans to catabolize cholesterol and play crucial roles in gut metabolism,microbiota habitat regulation and cell signaling.BA-activated nuclear receptors regulate the enterohepatic circulation of BAs which play a role in energy,lipid,glucose,and drug metabolism.The gut microbiota plays an essential role in the biotransformation of BAs and regulates BAs composition and metabolism.Therefore,altered gut microbial and BAs activity can affect human metabolism and thus result in the alteration of metabolic pathways and the occurrence of metabolic diseases/syndromes,such as diabetes mellitus,obesity/hypercholesterolemia,and cardiovascular diseases.BAs and their metabolites are used to treat altered gut microbiota and metabolic diseases.This review explores the increasing body of evidence that links alterations of gut microbial activity and BAs with the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases.Moreover,we summarize existing research on gut microbes and BAs in relation to intracellular pathways pertinent to metabolic disorders.Finally,we discuss how therapeutic interventions using BAs can facilitate microbiome functioning and ease metabolic diseases.

Feasibility of one-shot dilation access in the pediatric age group

Objective To compare sequential fascial dilation(SFD)versus one-shot dilation(OSD)in the pediatric patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy.Methods The present study is an observational study.The study subjects were divided into two groups.In group 1,renal dilation was done using the SFD and in group 2,renal dilation was done using the OSD.The amount of time exposed to radiation during access to pelvicalyceal system was estimated.Complications,stone free rates,ancillary procedures for residual stones and hospital stay were compared.Modified Clavien-Dindo classification was used for grading the complications.Results Radiation exposure and operative time were less in OSD group(95%confidence interval(CI)3.068 to 14.072,and 2.565 to 12.435,p<0.005).The mean drop of hematocrit was statistically less significant in OSD group(p=0.032).In both groups,complications,stone free rate and hospital stay were statistically insignificant.Conclusions OSD is feasible in the children with reduced radiation exposure and shorter operative time.The outcome was similar to SFD.

A Thorough Investigation on Image Forgery Detection

Image forging is the alteration of a digital image to conceal some of the necessary or helpful information.It cannot be easy to distinguish themodified region fromthe original image in somecircumstances.The demand for authenticity and the integrity of the image drive the detection of a fabricated image.There have been cases of ownership infringements or fraudulent actions by counterfeiting multimedia files,including re-sampling or copy-moving.This work presents a high-level view of the forensics of digital images and their possible detection approaches.This work presents a thorough analysis of digital image forgery detection techniques with their steps and effectiveness.These methods have identified forgery and its type and compared it with state of the art.This work will help us to find the best forgery detection technique based on the different environments.It also shows the current issues in other methods,which can help researchers find future scope for further research in this field.

Experimental Study of Parameters of a Plasma Antenna

A plasma column excited by a surface wave can act as a plasma antenna. Experiments are carried out to study the current and conductivity distributions, field, power patterns, directivity and efficiency of such a plasma antenna. In addition, an equivalent metallic copper antenna is built up and its antenna parameters are compared with that of the plasma antenna. Our findings indicate that the power content in the harmonics of the plasma antenna is more prominent as compared to the copper antenna （which only generates a fundamental frequency）. However, the power patterns for both antennae are quite similar. To provide a more qualitative understanding regarding the generation of harmonics in the field of the plasma antenna, a bi-spectral analysis is performed to study the nonlinear interactions in the current fluctuations. Some specific features of the plasma antenna are investigated in our study, which may enhance the application prospect of the plasma antenna with respect to the conventional metallic antenna.

Inhibition of nitrification in soil by metal diethyldithiocarbamates

Nitrification acts as a key process in determining fertilizer use efficiency by crops as well as nitrogen losses from soils. Metal dithiocarbamates in addition to their pesticidal properties can also inhibit biological oxidation of ammonium(nitrification) in soil. Metal [M=V(Ⅲ), Cr(Ⅲ), Mn(Ⅱ), Fe(Ⅲ), Ni(Ⅱ), Cu(Ⅱ), Zn(Ⅱ) and Co(Ⅱ)] diethyldithiocarbamates (DEDTC) were synthesized by the reaction of sodium diethyldithiocarbamate with metal chloride in dichloromethane/water mixture. These metal diethyldithiocarbamates were screened for their ability to inhibit nitrification at different concentrations(10 μg/g soil, 50 μg/g soil and 100 μg/g soil). With increasing concentration of the complex, capacity to retard nitrification increased but the extent of increase varied for different metals. At 100 μg/g soil, different complexes showed nitrification inhibition from 22 36% to 46 45%. Among the diethyldithiocarbamates tested, Zn(DEDTC) 2 proved to be the most effective nitrification inhibitor at 100 μg/g soil. Manganese, iron and chromium diethyldithiocarbamates also proved to be effective nitrification inhibitors than the others at 100 μg/g soil. The order of percent nitrification inhibition in soil by metal diethyldithiocarbamates was: Zn(Ⅱ) > Mn(Ⅱ) > Fe(Ⅲ) > Cr(Ⅲ) >V(Ⅲ) > Co(Ⅱ) > Ni(Ⅱ) > Cu(Ⅱ).

Delayed diagnosis of cancer using conventional diagnostic modalities needs to be addressed to reduce the mortality rate of cancer.Recently,2 D nanomaterial-enabled advanced biosensors have shown potential towards the early diagnosis of cancer.The high surface area,surface functional groups availability,and excellent electrical conductivity of MXene make it the 2 D material of choice for the fabrication of advanced electrochemical biosensors for disease diagnostics.MXene-enabled electrochemical aptasensors have shown great promise for the detection of cancer biomarkers with a femtomolar limit of detection.Additionally,the stability,ease of synthesis,good reproducibility,and high specificity offered by MXene-enabled aptasensors hold promise to be the mainstream diagnostic approach.In this review,the design and fabrication of MXene-based electrochemical aptasensors for the detection of cancer biomarkers have been discussed.Besides,various synthetic processes and useful properties of MXenes which can be tuned and optimized easily and efficiently to fabricate sensitive biosensors have been elucidated.Further,futuristic sensing applications along with challenges will be deliberated herein.

Numerical Algorithm Based on Quintic Nonpolynomial Spline for Solving Third-Order Boundary Value Problems Associated with Draining and Coating Flows

A numerical algorithm is developed for the approximation of the solution to certain boundary value problems involving the third-order ordinary differential equation associated with draining and coating flows.The authors show that the approximate solutions obtained by the numerical algorithm developed by using nonpolynomial quintic spline functions are better than those produced by other spline and domain decomposition methods.The algorithm is tested on two problems associated with draining and coating flows to demonstrate the practical usefulness of the approach.

Advancement in biogas production from the solid waste by optimizing the anaerobic digestion

The crisis of fossil fuel and their negative impact on the environment has caused concern among the scientific communities leading them to look around for renewable sources of energy.This review has emphasized the efficient utilization of organic municipal solid waste as well as agriculture waste in an anaerobic digester for the production of biogas as a sustainable renewable energy.Recent advances in biogas production along with previous research work have been discussed to offer a comprehensive synopsis of the accumulated knowledge.This review also elucidates about the design of an anaerobic digester,the prospect of anaerobic digestion and opportunity in new advances in technology.Biogas is one of the most accepted sustainable renewable energy.The characterization,elimination of contaminants,pretreatment,anaerobic diges-tion in optimum condition and utilization of energy crops enhanced the efficiency of an anaerobic digester.Pretreatment of segregated organic solid waste increased its putrescibility and further biogas production.The optimized parameters in this review were pH,temperature,loading rate,C/N ratio and solid/liquid ratio of the feedstock.The flow rate of the feedstock was optimized according to the available volume of the digester,residence time and the characteristics of the feedstock.The design of an anaerobic digester should be preferably cylindrical in shape,with a diameter ranging from 6 to 40 m,the depth ranging from 7.5 to 15 m and the conical floor having a slope around 15%.A comprehensive reform in technical,economic,and social policies is essential to accomplish a sustainable energy system considering biogas as a future renewable energy.The flowsheet of the biogas and methanol production has been given in Fig.1.
