Web-based remote sensing image retrieval using multiscale and multidirectional analysis based on Contourlet and Haralick texture features

Purpose-Extracting suitable features to represent an image based on its content is a very tedious *** in remote sensing we have high-resolution images with a variety of objects on the Earth’s *** distance metric is used to measure the similarity between query and database *** low distance obtained image is indexed at the top as high relevant information to the ***/methodology/approach-This paper aims to develop an automatic feature extraction system for remote sensing image *** texture features based on Contourlet transform are fused with statistical features extracted from the QuadTree(QT)decomposition are developed as feature set to represent the input *** extracted features will retrieve similar images from the large image datasets using an image-based query through the web-based user ***-The developed retrieval system performance has been analyzed using precision and recall and F1 *** proposed feature vector gives better performance with 0.69 precision for the top 50 relevant retrieved results over other existing multiscale-based feature extraction ***/value-The main contribution of this paper is developing a texture feature vector in a multiscale domain by combining the Haralick texture properties in the Contourlet domain and Statistical features using QT *** features required to represent the image is 207 which is very less dimension compare to other texture *** performance shows superior than the other state of art methods.

Characteristics of aggregate gradation, drain down and stabilizing agents in stone matrix asphalt mixtures: A state of art review

Over the years stone matrix asphalt(SMA)mixtures have evolved significantly and research works have presented some promising *** made the paving industries to increase the usage of SMA mixtures in the pavement ***,SMA mixtures have certain challenges or setbacks,which require comprehensive *** aim of the review paper is to present some of the challenges in SMA mixtures and their mitigations *** is observed that several challenges(i.e.,aggregate gradation,stone-onstone contact,drain down and stabilizing agents)related to SMA mixtures are addressed by the *** agencies have suggested their own aggregate gradation based on their experience,location,climatic conditions and available manufacturing facilities,and they are working ***-on-stone contact is achieved with proper aggregate gradation and failure to meet the same will reduce the *** down is major concern in the SMA mixtures since it controls overall mixture ***,researchers shown out the most importance to curtail the *** researchers followed ASTM D6390 and National Cooperative Highway Research Program(NCHRP No.424)procedure to evaluate the drain down and concluded that drain down should be less than0.3%(by weight of mixture).Apart from that,researchers are trying different stabilizing agents to reduce the drain ***,stabilizing agents such as fibers and polymers have a positive ***,suitable waste and recycle products are used as stabilizing agent to reduce drain down and environmental *** of which coconut fiber has shown some promising results,however,comprehensive research is required in this *** the other hand,0.3%of cellulose fiber is working as a good stabilizing agent and can be used without conducting drain down *** review paper provides a complete knowledge about different stabilizing agents used in SMA mixtures to minimize the drain down.

Association of endothelial nitric oxide synthase gene T-786C promoter polymorphism with gastric cancer

AIM: To investigate the role of endothelial nitric oxide synthase-786 T > C promoter polymorphism in the etiology of gastric cancer(GC). METHODS: A total of 150 GC patients and 150 control subjects were included in the study. The information on demographic features was elicited with an informed consent from all the patients and control subjects using a structured questionnaire. Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infectivity status was tested in antral biopsies from all the subjects by rapid urease test following the method of Vaira et al. Genomic DNA was isolated from whole blood samples following the salting out method of Lahiri et al. Genotype analysis of the rs2070744 polymorphism was carried out by allele-specific polymerase chain reaction method. The genotypes were determined based on the appearance of bands on an agarose gel stained with ethidium bromide under ultraviolet gel documentation with the help of 100 bp ladder. Odds ratios and corresponding 95%CIs were determined using java stat online software. RESULTS: There was a significant difference in the distribution of C allele(C vs T; P = 0.000, OR = 5.038) in patient group compared to the control subjects exhibiting a fivefold increased risk for GC. When the T/T and C/C genotypes were compared, there was an enhanced GC risk for individuals with C/C genotype(T/T vs C/C; P = 0.000). Among the demographic factors, smoking and alcoholism were the common risk factors in patients compared to the control subjects(P < 0.05). Patients with smoking and alcoholism developed cancer even in heterozygous T/C condition(smoking: P = 0.020 and alcoholism: P = 0.005). Individuals with H. pylori infection showed seven fold increased risk for cancer. All the patients with C/C genotype revealed a significant association between H. pylori infection and GC. Among the patients 2.4% of them revealed familial incidence of GC. No significant difference was noticed between cases and controls with regard to consanguinity(P = 0.473).CONCLU

Studies on electrical and thermal properties of dental glass ionomer cement

A commercially available dental Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) was studied after setting at room temperature (300 K) to understand its DC electrical conductivity, dielectric and thermal properties. The dental GIC’s are supposed to have free mobile charge carriers like F- ions. Interestingly this material loses its conductivity above 80°C and behaves like a non-polar substance. The frequency dependent dielectric studies also indicate the loss of mobile charge carriers in the samples annealed at 80°C. The DSC and TGA studies indicate that the material loses H2O exothermically at 100°C. This is attributed to the onset of a secondary setting reaction.

Electrical and Spectroscopic Studies of the CdO Substituted Lead Vanadate Glass System vs Crystalline Form

Results of the direct current (DC) Electrical Conductivity, thermoelectric power and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) of CdO substituted PbO-V2O5 glass system are reported. Conduction in these glasses is found to be electronic and the hoping of polaron seems to be the dominant process in the transport mechanism. There is a remarkable decrease in the activation energy for conduction in the annealed and devitrified samples when compared to their amorphous counter parts. It is observed that there is remarkable improvement in the conductivity of the crystalline samples when compared to their amorphous counter parts. The thermoelectric power measurements indicates that the amorphous samples are n-type at room temperature where as the crystalline samples are p-type at room temperature. In crystalline samples the hyperfine structure is nearly smeared out and a relatively broad line with an isotropic g value characterizes the spectra.
