Advanced basal cell carcinoma (aBcc) includes metastatic and locally advanced Bcc that is inoperable (or with surgery contraindicated). We describe patient characteristics and treatment history for aBcc cases from community oncology. Nine cases of aBcc were found within the AcORN Data Warehouse, a community oncology database of >180,000 cancer patients. Data were summarized descriptively. Three illustrative case histories are presented. Patients were predominantly caucasian (8/9), male (6/9), and over 60 (6/9). Four had metastatic disease;five had aBcc without metastasis. Five had a history of treatment for early stage Bcc, including surgery (5/5), radiation (1/5), and none had chemotherapy. Those with history of early stage Bcc had periods of apparent lack of follow-up and treatment. One had chemotherapy for aBcc (platinum based with radiation) and eight had radiation without chemotherapy. Patients had multiple comorbid serious medical conditions. Six were deceased, but only one was documented to have aBcc as cause of death. Advanced Bcc is rare in community oncology settings. There appear to be gaps in the care and follow-up of patients with initial early stage Bcc. More data and larger samples are needed from multi-specialty databases such as dermatology and head and neck surgery.

Tissue engineering scaffolds require a controlled pore size and interconnected pore structures to support the host tissue growth. In the present study, three dimensional （3D） hybrid scaffolds of poly lactic acid （PLA） and poly glycolic acid （PGA） were fabricated using solvent casting/particulate leaching. In this case, partially fused Nacl particles were used as porogen （200-300μ） to improve the overall porosity （≥90%） and internal texture of scaffolds. Differential scanning calorimeter （DSc） analysis of these porous scaffolds revealed a gradual reduction in glass transition temperature （Tg）（from 48°c to 42.5°c） with increase in hydrophilic PGA content. The potential applications of these scaffolds as implants were further tested for their biocompatibility and biodegradability in four simulated body fluid （SBF） types in vitro. Whereas, simulated body fluid （SBF） Type1 with the optimal amount of HcO 3 ions was found to be more appropriate and sensible for testing the bioactivity of scaffolds. Among three combinations of polymer scaffolds, sample B with a ratio of 75：25 of PLA： PGA showed greater stability in body fluids （pH 7.2） with an optimum degradation rate （9% to 12% approx）. X-ray diffractogram also confirmed a thin layer of hydroxyapatite deposition over sample B with all SBF types in vitro.

Objective:To investigate the antioxidant property of purified bioactive compound from sponge associated bacteria Bacillus ***:The potential active compound was subjected for assay of total antioxidant activity,α,α-diphenyl-α-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)radical scavenging activity,nitric oxide radical scavenging activity,hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))scavenging activity and total reducing ***,the 16S rRNA gene sequence was carried out to identify the sponge symbiotic ***:The results showed linear increase of total antioxidant activity,DPPH radical scavenging activity,nitric oxide radical scavenging activity,H_(2)O_(2)scavenging activity and total reducing ***_(50)value of the active compound for DPPH activity,H_(2)O_(2)scavenging activity,nitric oxide scavenging activity was recorded as 15.025μg/mL,23.73μg/mL,and 41.70μg/mL *** potential strain was identified as Bacillus species from GenBank database(GenBank Accession number JX985748).conclusions:The present study has reported the antioxidant property of purified bioactive compound from sponge associated Bacillus *** report will be helpful to pharmaceutical and antioxidant researchers for further studies.

In the present study silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using leaves of bamboo plant, Bambus vulgaris and the size of the nanoparticles was confirmed using XRD, EDAX, SEM, TEM, PSA analysis. The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized NPs showed a good antibacterial activity against the waterborne isolates, E. coli, Staphyllococcus aureus, Vibrio cholera and Salmonella sp. Further the anti algal activity of the NPs was tested against the algae, Dictyosphaerium pulchellum, and Algoriphagus chordate. The SEM studies revealed that the AgNPs breaks the cell wall of algae and inhibits the growth. The safe dose of AgNPs can be used in aquaculture farms, household water tanks and other small water bodies to wipe out waterborne pathogens and algal bloom.

Effect of Acetaldehyde on Oxidoreductases in Tissues of Rats at Different Ages

The toxicity of acetaldehyde and age related changes on oxidoreductases in the liver,brain, kidney, and musele of female albino rats (Wistar strain) were studied. The specific activities of lactate [LDH], isocitrate [IcDH (NAD/NADP)], succinate [SDH], malate [MDH], glutamate [GDH] and glucose-6-Phosphate [G-6-PDH] dehydrogenases were signifieantly inereased as a function of age. However, acetaldehyde treatment significantly inhibited oxidoreductases in the tissues of 21, 90 and 180 day old rats. Liver enzymes of young (21 days) rats exhibited greater sensitivity to acetaldehyde toxicity. Similar inhibition of oxidoreductases in brain and kidney of adult (180 days) rats treated with acetaldehyde was observed. LDH and GDH as compared to other enzymes studied showed higher susceptibility to acetaldehyde toxicity. The differential sensitivity of tissues and inhibition of oxidoreductases by acetaldehyde as a function of age could be attributed to hypoxic conditions, energy crisis, and mitochondrial structural changes. The results suggest that acetaldehyde affects oxidation of glucose via HMP shuni pathway, glycolytic pathway and Krebs cycle resulting in the impairment of carbohydrate metabolism

Tin monosulphide(SnS) thin films capped by PVA have been successfully deposited on glass substrates for cost effective photovoltaic device applications by a simple and low-cost wet chemical process, chemical bath deposition(cBD) at different bath temperatures varying in the range, 50–80 °c. X–ray diffraction analysis showed that the deposited films were polycrystalline in nature, showing orthorhombic structure with an intense peak corresponding to(040) plane of SnS. These observations were further confirmed by Raman analysis. FTIR spectra showed the absorption bands which corresponds to PVA in addition to *** scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy studies revealed that the deposited SnS films were uniform and nanostructured with an average particle size of 4.9 to 7.6 nm. The optical investigations showed that the layers were highly absorbing with the optical absorption coefficient ～10~5 cm^(-1). A decrease in optical band gap from 1.92 to 1.55 eV with an increase of bath temperature was observed. The observed band gap values were higher than the bulk value of 1.3 eV, which might be due to quantum confinement effect. The optical band gap values were also used to calculate particle size and the results are discussed.

A quantitative structure–activity relationship(QSAR) was performed to analyze antimalarial activities against the D10 strains of Plasmodium falciparum of triazole-linked chalcone and dienone hybrid derivatives using partial least squares regression coupled with stepwise forward–backward variable selection method. QSAR analyses were performed on the available Ic50 D10 strains of Plasmodium falciparum data based on theoretical molecular descriptors. The QSAR model developed gave good predictive correlation coefficient(r2) of 0.8994, significant cross validated correlation coefficient(q2) of 0.7689, r2 for external test set)(2predr of 0.8256, coefficient of correlation of predicted data set)(2sepred,r of 0.3276. The model shows that antimalarial activity is greatly affected by donor and electron-withdrawing substituents. The study implicates that chalcone and dienone rings should have strong donor and electron-withdrawing substituents as they increase the activity of chalcone. Results show that the predictive ability of the model is satisfactory, and it can be used for designing similar group of antimalarial compounds. The findings derived from this analysis along with other molecular modeling studies will be helpful in designing of the new potent antimalarial activity of clinical utility.

The persistent rise in concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the earth’s atmosphere is responsible for global warming and climate change. Besides the known source of GHGs emissions like energy, industry, and agriculture, intrinsic emissions from natural inland water bodies like wetland, rivers, reservoirs, estuaries, etc. have also been identified as other hotspots of GHGs emission and gaining the attention of the scientific communities in recent times. Inland fisheries in India are threatened by climate changes such as a change in temperature, precipitation, droughts, storm, sea-level rise, saltwater intrusion, floods that affect mostly the production, productivity and ultimately affect the fishers’ livelihood. There are, however, different mitigation and adaptation strategies to cope with the effects of climate change. carbon sequestration and other related management interventions are one of the options available minimizing GHGs emissions from inland open waters, particularly the wetlands and coastal mangroves which are well known worldwide for their significant role in the storage of carbon. Assessment of c efflux from exposed sediments in dry streams, reservoirs, lakes, rivers, and ponds into the atmosphere can be considered imperative for a better understanding of their role as a c-sink or as a c-source to the atmosphere.

The conditional version of sandwiched Tsallis relative entropy (cSTRE) is employed to study the bipartite separability of one parameter family of N-qudit Werner-Popescu states in their 1:N-1 partition. For all N, the strongest limitation on bipartite separability is realized in the limit and is found to match exactly with the separability range obtained using an algebraic method which is both necessary and sufficient. The theoretical superiority of using cSTRE criterion to find the bipartite separability range over the one using Abe-Rajagopal (AR) q-conditional entropy is illustrated by comparing the convergence of the parameter x with respect to q, in the implicit plots of AR q-conditional entropy and cSTRE.
