Performance comparison of Artificial Neural Network Models for Daily Rainfall Prediction

With an aim to predict rainfall one-day in advance, this paper adopted different neural network models such as feed forward back propagation neural network （BPN）, cascade-forward back propagation neural network （cBPN）, distributed time delay neural network （DTDNN） and nonlinear autoregressive exogenous network （NARX）, and compared their forecasting capabilities. The study deals with two data sets, one containing daily rainfall, temperature and humidity data of Nilgiris and the other containing only daily rainfall data from 14 rain gauge stations located in and around coonoor （a taluk of Nilgiris）. Based on the performance analysis, NARX network outperformed all the other networks. Though there is no major difference in the performances of BPN, cBPN and DTDNN, yet BPN performed considerably well confirming its prediction capabilities. Levenberg Marquardt proved to be the most effective weight updating technique when compared to different gradient descent approaches. Sensitivity analysis was instrumental in identifying the key predictors.

Leuconostoc spp. （LSland LI1） isolated from sauerkraut and idli batter was selected for dextran production. To enhance the yield of dextran, effects of various parameters such as sucrose concentration, pH, temperature, incubation and inoculum percentage were analyzed. The optimum sucrose concentration for the Leuconostoc spp. （LS1 and LI1） was found to be 15% and 25% respectively. Isolates produced maximum dextran after 20 h of incubation at 29℃ and the optimum pH was found between 8 and 8.5. The inoculum concentration of 7.5% was more favorable for the production of dextran by Leuconostoc spp. （LS1 and LI1）. The growth kinetic parameters were studied and compared for the strains LS1 and LI1. Mass production of dextran was carried out using a stirred tank batch reactor. FTIR analysis was done to determine the functional groups of dextran, sephadex is prepared by cross linking dextran using epichlorohydrin and the functional groups are determined by FTIR analysis.

Silica host matrix containing neodymium which is potentially important for the formation of nanocrystalline metal oxides was prepared by solgel method, using tetra-ethoxysilane and Nd（NO3）3 as precursor *** prepared samples were changed from amorphous to nanocrystallites phase at sintered temperature 550 °c（4 h）, 750 °c（8 h） and 950 °c（12 h）.The thermally treated sample microstructures were investigated using X-ray diffraction（XRD）, Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy（FTIR）, and scanning electron mi-croscopy（SEM）.While a further increase of the temperature at 750 °c and annealing time（8 h） resulted in the formation of cubic and hexagonal Nd2O3 *** constant sintering temperature 950 °c for 12 h, the samples showed sharper and intense *** sizes of Nd2O3 nanocrystallites were characterized by XRD with average size ～46 nm.

Synthesis and photoluminescent performance of novel europium(Ⅲ) carboxylates with heterocyclic ancillary ligands

The genus chenopodium comprises about 150 species, of which chenopodium quinoa and c. album are important for their nutritional value. Evaluation of variation in qualitative morphological traits of plants and SNPs in chloroplast rbc L and mat K gene sequences in 19 accessions representing c. quinoa and c. album indicated that the accessions Ic-411824 and Ic-411825,which have white seeds, belong to c. quinoa rather than c. album. This observation was also supported by a time tree that indicated Ic-411824 and Ic-411825 to be a sister clade to accessions of c. quinoa with an estimated age of 1.2 Mya. Whereas multiple alignments of rbc L gene sequences from the 19 accessions revealed 1.26% parsimony-informative sites with 0.68%interspecific sequence diversity, alignment of nucleotide sequences of amplicons representing the mat K gene revealed 4.97% parsimony-informative sites and 2.81% interspecific sequence diversity. Validation of SNPs in the cp rbc L and mat K regions of 36 accessions belonging to c. quinoa and c. album was performed by allele-specific PcR with primers carrying a single base change at the 3′ end. We report the first c. quinoa-specific SNP-based primer, R1RQ-AFR,designed from rbc L sequences, that could differentiate quinoa from 64 genera including13 species of the genus chenopodium. With an estimated age of 10.5–4.1 million years(Myr), the Himalayan chenopods are evolutionarily younger than the Andean chenopods. The results establish the paraphyletic origin of the genus chenopodium.

Antimony-doped tin oxide(ATO) nanoparticles with an average size of ～ 6 nm were prepared by co-precipitation and subsequent heat treatment. Graphitic carbon nitride(g-cN)/ATO hybrid nanocomposite was designed by the combination of thermally synthesized g-cN and ATO nanoparticles by ultrasonication. The materials were characterized using N2 adsorption/desorption(BET), X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). A mixture of five volatile organic compounds(VOcs, chloroform, benzene, toluene, xylene and styrene) was used to compare the adsorption capacity of the samples. The adsorption capacity of ATO nanoparticles was improved by the addition of g-cN. Experimental data showed that, among the five VOcs,chloroform was the least adsorbed, regardless of the samples. The g-cN/ATO showed nearly three times greater adsorption capacity for the VOc mixture than pure ATO. The unchanged efficiency of VOc adsorption during cyclic use demonstrated the completely reversible adsorption and desorption behavior of the nanocomposite at room conditions. This economically and environmentally friendly material can be a practical solution for outdoor and indoor VOc removal.
