The influence of humic substances (HS) formulations derived from sedimentary and compost sources was studied on plant growth at cell level and chlorophyll retention during accelerated senescence of leaf tissue. The direct effect of HS formulations was studied on cell expansion using cucumber and radish cotyledon expansion test. The cucumber hypocotyl elongation test was used to study the effect on cell elongation. Chlorophyll pigment retention in excised leaf tissue incubated in dark with high temperature was assessed to study the effect on leaf senescence. Explant tissues were incubated directly in the solutions of the formulations at the concentration recommended for foliar application to the crop plants. HS formulations showed significant variations in their direct bio-stimulatory effects. Formulations derived from compost sources were found superior in terms of inducing a direct stimulatory effect on cell expansion and cell elongation and in maintaining chlorophyll pigment retention during accelerated senescence. HS from sedimentary sources stimulated cell expansion and delayed chlorophyll degradation to a lesser extent compared to HS from compost. However, HS formulations derived from sedimentary sources used in this study were not effective in inducing cell elongation in the cucumber hypocotyl elongation test. The direct bio-stimulatory effect of HS formulations differed significantly between the formulations that were evaluated.

Thermo-physical properties of Al-Mg alloys in molten state at 1073 K have been studied using thermodynamic modeling. Thermodynamic properties, such as free energy of mixing, heat of mixing, entropy of mixing, activities and structural properties, such as concentration fluctuation in long wavelength limit, Warren-Cowely short range order parameter have been studied at 1073 K, 1173 K, 1273 K and 1373 K on the basis of regular associated solution model. The surface properties such as surface concentrations and surface tension of the liquid alloys have been studied by using Butler’s model. A consistent set of model parameters have also been obtained by using optimization procedure based on statistical thermodynamics. Our analysis reveals that Al-Mg alloy is moderately interacting and it shows ordering nature at 1073 K. The nature of the alloys changes from ordering to segregating as the temperature increases.

Plant growth promontory Pseudomonas strains were isolated from root nodules of five plant species, viz., Trifolium pretense, Cicer arietinum, Amaranthus polygamus, Vigna mungo, and Trigonella foenum;that plants were denizen of Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. A total of 8 bacterial isolates were evaluated for growth promotion using PGP properties. Partial 16S rDNA sequencing data showed that these 8 bacterial isolates belonged to genus Pseudomonas. MEGA 4.0.2, software was used to construct a neighbor joining tree by employing boot strap method. Result exhibited significant diversity among recovered Pseudomonas strains.

Background:Kyasanur Forest disease(KFD)is a febrile illness characterized by hemorrhages,and is reported endemic in the Shimoga district in Karnataka state,*** is caused by the KFD virus(KFDV)of the family Flaviviridae,and is transmitted to monkeys and humans by Haemaphysalis ***:We investigated a new focus of KFD among tribals in a reserve forest in Kerala state,India.A suspected case was defined as a person presenting with acute fever,headache,or *** sera were collected and tested for KFDV RNA by real-time RT-PCR,RT-nPCR assay,and anti-KFDV IgM and IgG by *** index case was a tribal woman with febrile illness,severe myalgia,gum bleeding,and ***-KFDV IgM antibody was detected in acute and convalescent sera of the index case along with IgG in the second *** of her family members reported *** verbal autopsy,two more fatal cases were identified as probable primary *** serum from a case in the second cluster was detected positive for KFDV RNA by real time RT-PCR(Ct=32)and *** of E gene showed highest similarity of 98.0%with the KFDV W-377 isolate nucleotide and 100%identity with amino ***-KFDV IgM was detected in the serum of one family member of the index case,as well as in one out of 17 other ***:We confirmed a new focus of KFDV activity among tribals in a reserve forest in the Malappuram district of Kerala,India.

The annual average values of amplitudes and phases of first two harmonics of cosmic ray anisotropy have been derived by using the harmonic analysis technique for the period 1989 to 2004, which covers mostly the major period of solar cycles 22 and 23. In this paper we have taken the pressure corrected hourly data for Kiel neutron monitor station (cut off rigidity ≈ 2.29 GV) to derive the harmonic component of cosmic ray daily variation and compared with the data of Halekala neutron monitor (cut off rigidity ≈ 13.2 GV) for the period 1991 to 2004. From the analysis it has been concluded that the diurnal amplitude and phase of daily variation of cosmic rays have been found to be correlated with solar activity. However, the semi-diurnal amplitude and phase are inversely correlated with solar activity for both the stations.

Free rotating impurity-vacancy (IV) dipoles in an alkali halide matrix are polarized to the extent of 1/3 of the total number of IV dipoles. An experimental procedure is suggested in this article which will help in the polarization of IV dipoles to the extent of 2/3 of the total number of IV dipoles. In the suggested experimental procedure, the electric field will be applied at first in one direction and then will be applied in succession in opposite direction. Ionic thermocurrent technique is employed to ascertain the increase in polarization of IV dipoles.

Minimally invasive osteosynthesis of distal tibial fractures using anterolateral locking plate： Evaluation of results and complications

Purpose： Soft tissue healing is of paramount importance in distal tibial fractures fora successful outcome. There is an increasing trend of using anterolateral plate due to an adequate soft tissue cover on ante- rolateral distal tibia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results and complications of minimally invasive anterolateral locking plate in distal tibial fractures. Methods： This is a retrospective study of 42 patients with distal tibial fractures treated with minimally invasive anterolateral tibial plating. This study evaluates the hone and soft tissue healing along with emphasis on complications related to bone and soft tissue healing. Results： Full weight bearing was allowed in mean time period of 4.95 months （3-12 months）. A major local complication of a wound which required revision surgery was seen in one case. Minor complica- tions were identified in 9 cases which comprised 4 cases of marginal necrosis of the surgical wound, 1 case of superficial infection, I case of sensory disturbance over the anterolateral foot, 1 case of muscle hernia and 2 cases of delayed union. Mean distance between the posterolateral and anterolateral incision was 5.7 cm （4.5-8 cm）. Conclusion： The minimally invasive distal tibial fixation with anterolateral plating is a safe method of stabilization. Distance between anterolateral and posterolateral incision can be placed less than 7 cm apart deoending on fracture oattern with proper surgical timing and technique.
