Total estimated effective doses from radiologic imaging modalities of children with cancer:a single center experience

Background:Recently,awareness of the cumulative radiation exposure for pediatric oncology patients has been increasing,together with increased survival rates and longer life *** aim of our study was to quantify the amount of ionising radiation from imaging modalities of pediatric oncology ***:Eighty-eight patients who were diagnosed with childhood cancer and followed up for 5 years between 2004-2014 in our center were included in the ***' medical files were reviewed retrospectively for imaging history in the first 5 years after *** estimated effective doses from radiologic imaging modalities were ***,the basic demographic data,histologic type,stage,and outcomes of disease were collected for all ***:The individual total estimated effective doses ranged from 8.73 to 167 mSv,with a median of 62.92 *** tomography was the greatest contributor of total effective *** doses ranged 21.45-113.20 mSv (median:62.92 mSv) in Hodgkin lymphoma,12.53-167.10 mSv (median:52 mSv) in non-Hodgkin lymphoma,4.13-172.98 mSv (median:52 mSv) in neuroblastoma,31-149.89 mSv (median:63.10 mSv) in Wilms' tumor,11.50-73.72 mSv (median:36.90 mSv) in germ cell tumor,26.46-125.86 mSv (median:80.90 mSv) in other solid tumor and 0.02-13.31 mSv (5.25 mSv) in brain tumor ***-two children (25%) died with progressive disease during the 5-year follow-up ***:Similar to previous studies,the total estimated effective doses in children with cancer have been found various according to diagnosis,stage and clinical *** clarify the harmfull effects of radiation burden,prospective studies should be conducted in children with cancer.

Quadratic interaction effect on the dark energy density in the universe

In this study, we deal with the holographic model of interacting dark components of dark energy and dark matter quadratic case of the equation of state parameter （EoS）. The effective equations of states for the interacting holographic energy density are derived and the results are analyzed and compared with the solution of the linear form in the literature. The result of our work shows that the value of interaction term between dark components affects the fixed points at far future in the DE-dominated universe in the case of quadratic EoS parameter; it is a different result from the linear case in the theoretical results in the literature, and as the Quintom scenario the equations of state had coincidence at the cosmological constant boundary of - 1 from above to below.

Given the demographic trends toward a considerably longer life expectancy,the percentage of elderly patients with prostate cancer will increase further in the upcoming ***,the question arises,should patients ≥75 years old be offered radical prostatectomy and under which circumstances? For treatment decision-making,life expectancy is more important than biological *** a result,a patient's health and mental status has to be determined and radical treatment should only be offered to those who are *** perioperative morbidity and mortality in these patients is increased relative to younger patients,patient selection according to comorbidities is a key issue that needs to be *** is known from the literature that elderly men show notably worse tumor characteristics,leading to worse oncologic outcomes after ***,elderly patients also demonstrate worse postoperative recovery of continence and erectile *** the absolute rates of both oncological and functional outcomes are still very reasonable in patients ≥75 years,a radical prostatectomy can be offered to highly selected and healthy elderly patients. Nevertheless,patients clearly need to be informed about the worse outcomes and higher perioperative risks compared to younger patients.

Effects of application date and rate of foliar-applied glyphosate on pine seedlings in Turkey

Glyphosate is the herbicide most extensively used for site preparation and conifer release. It is a broadspectrum herbicide and therefore crop safety is a critical issue. This study assessed the early effects of 14 different treatments, including no weed control, manual weed control, and 12 foliar-applied herbicide treatments at low,intermediate, high, and highest application rates and application timing on glyphosate phytotoxicity of containerized seedlings of Austrian pine(Pinus nigra ***.), Scots pine(P. sylvestris L.) and maritime pine(*** Aiton), conifer species widely used for afforestation and supplementary plantings in Turkish forestry. In general, Scots pine seedlings were tolerant to glyphosate compared to the other species. Glyphosate phytotoxicity varied significantly according to the time and rate of application. Seedlings were relatively tolerant to glyphosate in April whereas they were intolerant in May. The highest herbicide rate(1.2% v:v) was consistently phytotoxic to all species. Moreover, the effect of herbicide rate on seedling survival and growth varied significantly according to application date(i.e., application rate 9 date interaction). Seedlings appeared tolerant to glyphosate at low and intermediate rates(0.2, 0.4% v:v) between midspring and mid-summer, whereas they demonstrated significant sensitivity to the highest rate across all time periods. Glyphosate at the high rate(0.8% v:v) was particularly more phytotoxic when applied in May. Application of glyphosate at rates up to 0.8% could be recommended for weed control without significant pine damage in midspring when the needles presumably have a dense leaf epicuticular wax layer limiting herbicide *** of 0.8 and 1.2% v:v are not recommended during May–June.

We are interested in studying when the class of local modules is Baer- kaplansky. We provide an example showing that even over a commutative semisimple ring R, we can find two non-isomorphic simple R-modules S1 and S2 such that the rings EndR（S1） and EndR（S2） are isomorphic. We show that over any ring R, the class of semisimple R-modules is Baer kaplansky if and only if so is the class of simple R-modules.

Effects of wood species and retention levels on removal of copper,chromium,and arsenic from CCA-treated wood using sodium hypochlorite

Chemical extraction, bioremediation, and electrodialytic processes have been extensively studied for removal of copper, chromium, and arsenic from wood treated with chromated copper arsenate （CCA）. However, one problem has not been addressed： the effects of wood species and retention levels on remediation efficiency. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of wood species and retention levels on removal of copper, chromium, and arsenic from CCA-treated wood samples using sodium hypochlorite. Our results showed that sodium hypochlorite （NaOC1） was very effective for removal of copper, chromium, and arsenic from CCA-C treated milled wood samples for all three species used in this study. The Cu, Cr, and As extraction efficiencies for red pine were 95 % Cu, 97 % Cr and 94 % As, for maple were 95 % Cu, 97 % Cr, and 98 % As at 4.0 kg m-3 retention levels, and for aspen were 95 % Cu, 92% Cr, and 91% As at 9.6 kg m-3 retention level, respectively. However, the results showed that wood species and initial retention levels of CCA-treated wood products played very impor- tant roles in terms of removal of Cu, Cr, and As.

Robotic radical prostatectomy in high-risk prostate -ancer： current perspectives

Around 20%-30% of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer （PCa） still have high-risk PCa disease （HRPC） that requires aggressive treatment. Treatment of HRPC is controversial, and multimodality therapy combining surgery, radiation therapy, and androgen deprivation therapy have been suggested. There has been a trend toward performing radical prostatectomy （RP） in HRPC and currently, robot-assisted laparoscopic RP （RARP） has become the most common approach. Number of publications related to robotic surgery in HRPC is limited in the literature.

Expression of COX-2, PCNA, ki-67 and p53 in gastrointestinal stromal tumors and its relationship with histopathological parameters

AIM: To investigate the expression of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), ki-67 and p53 in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) and its relationship with histopathological parameters. METHODS: Twenty-five GISTs were examined by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry. c-kit, CD34, SMA, S-100 protein, COX-2, PCNA, ki-67 and p53 were detected immunohistochemically and the relationship was evaluated among histopathologic parameters such as mitotic index (MI), tumor grade, tumor size, COX-2, PCNA, ki-67 and p53. RESULTS: COX-2 protein expression was found in 19 of 25 (76%) of the tumors, and expression was noted in the cytoplasm of the tumor cells. p53 was significantly related to MI and tumor grade but no relationship was found between COX-2, proliferation markers and MI, tumor grade and tumor size. CONCLUSION: COX-2 is expressed in most GISTs and it may play an important role in the proliferation and progression of these tumors or a useful marker to identify GIST. Although immunohistochemical assessment of p53 can be used for distinguishing the risk groups of GISTs, tumor size and mitotic rate should be considered at the same time.
