3D printing of poly(ethyleneimine)-functionalized Mg-Al mixed metal oxide monoliths for direct air capture of Co_(2)

Direct air capture(DAC)of Co_(2)plays an indispensable role in achieving carbon-neutral goals as one of the key negative emission *** large air flows are required to capture the ultradilute Co_(2)from the air,lab-synthesized adsorbents in powder form may cause unacceptable gas pressure drops and poor heat and mass transfer efficiencies.A structured adsorbent is essential for the implementation of gas-solid contactors for cost-and energy-efficient DAC *** this study,efficient adsorbent poly(ethyleneimine)(PEI)-functionalized Mg-Al-Co_(3)layered double hydroxide(LDH)-derived mixed metal oxides(MMos)are three-dimensional(3D)printed into monoliths for the first time with more than 90%adsorbent *** printing process has been optimized by initially printing the LDH powder into monoliths followed by calcination into MMo *** structure exhibits a 32.7%higher specific surface area and a 46.1%higher pore volume,as compared to the direct printing of the MMo powder into a *** impregnation of PEI,the monolith demonstrates a large adsorption capacity(1.82 mmol/g)and fast kinetics(0.7 mmol/g/h)using a Co_(2)feed gas at 400 ppm at 25℃,one of the highest values among the shaped DAC *** of the amino-polymers during the post-printing process affects the diffusion of Co_(2),resulting in slower adsorption kinetics of pre-impregnation monoliths compared to post-impregnation *** optimal PEI/MeoH ratio for the post-impregnation solution prevents pores clogging that would affect both adsorption capacity and kinetics.

Layered α-cobalt hydroxides Co（oH1.65 Cl0.***.0.5H2o （1）, Co（oH）1.75（No3）0.***.0.1H2o（2） with unique macro- and microscale morphologies have been synthesised by a low temperature, ammonia-controlled vapour-diffusion method. The materials have thin film morphologies and were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction （XRD） and field emission scanning electron microscopy （FESEM）.

This paper presents a survey of image processing techniques proposed in the literature forextracting key cereal crop growth metrics from high spatial resolution, typically proximalimages. The descriptive crop growth metrics considered are: crop canopy cover, aboveground biomass, leaf area index (including green area index), chlorophyll content, andgrowth stage. The paper includes an overview of relevant fundamental image processingtechniques including camera types, colour spaces, colour indexes, and image segmentation. The descriptive crop growth metrics are defined. Reference methods for groundtruth measurement are described. Image processing methods for metric estimation aredescribed in detail. The performance of the methods is reviewed and compared. The surveyreveals limitations in image processing techniques for cereal crop monitoring such as lackof robustness to lighting conditions, camera position, and self-obstruction. Directions forfuture research to improve performance are identified.

Large eddy simulation of room fire spread using a medium scale compartment made of medium density fibreboard (MDF) panels

At present,there is a shortage of experimental and simulation studies on fire spread in medium-and large-scale compartments while the existing models of the fire spread are limited for typical engineering *** paper proposes a new model for large-scale fire spread on medium density fibreboard(MDF)*** the model with single burning item(SBI)experiments,it is found that the numerical simulation closely predicts the experimental heat release rate(HRR)with some error near the *** predicted heat flux and distance of lateral flame spread are consistent with the experiments and an existing *** effects of kinetic properties and heat of combustion are identified through a sensitivity *** decrease of activation energy and increase of pre-exponential factor make the MDF easier to pyrolyze and the increase of heat of combustion enhances the flame temperature and thus provide more heat feedback to the sample *** low activation energy(71.9 kJ/mol)and high heat of combustion(46.5 MJ/kg)of the model ensure the occurrence of flame ***,the model was validated using medium-scale compartment fire experiments and the results showed that the model can accurately predict the HRR after flashover(the error is within 7%).While the burner is ignited,the predictions of in-compartment gas temperature and heat flux are more ***,when the burner is extinguished,the modelled in-compartment gas temperature is lower than the experimental values,resulting in a lower heat flux *** model leads to easier flame spread;therefore,the modelled flame spreads faster in the compartment compared to the experiment,and thus the HRR increases more rapidly.

Layered double hydroxide nanosheets via solvothermal delamination

A new solvothermal post-synthesis treatment for preparing high aspect ratio magnesium aluminium layered double hydroxides(Mg Al–LDHs) has been developed. Treating laurate-intercalated Mg Al–LDHs in pure ethanol in an autoclave for 48 h at 150 °C was found to produce delaminated MgA l–LDH nanosheets with a thickness of ~2.6 nm and an aspect ratio of ~105. It is proposed that the high pressure solvothermal process promotes the insertion of ethanol molecules into the LDH interlayer space, thereby facilitating delamination. This new post-synthesis treatment provides the opportunity for a facile, large scale route to highly delaminated high aspect ratio LDHs, which might be of interest towards novel nanomaterials for energy conversion and storage.

The transparent and immutable nature of blockchain provides incentives for organizations wishing to create and implement an open,decentralized governance *** members exercise their voting rights,a fault-tolerant record accumulates on the blockchain that can be analyzed to diagnose and intercept potential threats to the governing *** date,there has not been a systematic study of on-chain governance with respect to *** this paper,we provide an analysis of blockchain governance through a case study of the first cryptocurrency to adopt on-chain voting,*** analysis introduces the key characteristics of blockchain governance,steps through a data-driven exploration of Dash's on-chain voting system,and highlights exploitable attack vectors and vulnerabilities for the subversion of Dash's on-chain voting system via a novel network analysis *** then conclude with guidelines for other organizations looking to implement similar blockchain governance solutions while maintaining integrity in their operations.

Molten salts-modified Mgo-based adsorbents for intermediate-temperature Co_2 capture: A review

Carbon dioxide（Co2） capture using magnesium oxide（Mgo）-based adsorbents at intermediate temperatures has been regarded as a very prospective technology for their relatively high adsorption capacity,low cost, and wide availability. During the past few years, great effort has been devoted to the fabrication of molten salts-modified Mgo-based adsorbents. The extraordinary progress achieved by coating with molten salts greatly promotes the Cocapture capacity of Mgo-based adsorbents. Therefore, we feel it necessary to deliver a timely review on this type of Cocapturing materials, which will benefit the researchers working in both academic and industrial areas. In this work, we classified the molten saltsmodified Mgo adsorbents into four categories:（1） homogenous molten salt-modified Mgo adsorbents,（2） molten salt-modified double salts-based Mgo adsorbents,（3） mixed molten salts-modified Mgo adsorbents, and（4） molten salts-modified Mgo-based mixed oxides adsorbents. This contribution critically reviews the recent developments in the synthetic method, adsorption capacity, reaction kinetics, promotion mechanism, operational conditions and regenerability of the molten salts-modified Mgo Coadsorbents. The challenges and prospects in this promising field of molten salts-modified Mgo Coadsorbents in real applications are also briefly mentioned.
