The aim of this study was to identify inflammation-associated markers during the early phase of sepsis in rhesus macaque. Four rhesus macaques were given an intravenous dose of 1010 CFU/kg of E. coli. Blood samples were collected before, or 30 minutes, 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours after E. coli infusion. Physiological parameters, bacteremia, endotoxemia, C-reactive protein(CRP), procalcitonin(PCT), and plasma cytokines/chemokines were determined for each animal. Bacteremia was present in all animals from 30 minutes to 3 hours after E. coli infusion whereas endotoxin was detected during the full-time course. CRP and PCT levels remained at detectable levels during the whole experimental window suggesting an ongoing inflammatory process. Signature cytokines and chemokines such as TNF-α, MIP-1α, and MIP-1β peaked about 2 hours after E. coli infusion and decreased thereafter. Plasma IL-6, IL-12 p40, IFN-γ, and IL-1 Ra, as well as I-TAC, MIG, IP-10 and MCP-1, remained at detectable levels after 4 hours of E. coli infusion. This nonhuman primate model could be useful for the assessment of new therapeutics aiming to suppress key inflammatory markers throughout sepsis early phases.

Objective: To study the distribution of human leptospirosis cases across the different geographic regions in the Philippines in 2015-2017 and to determine the relationship between the frequency of typhoon occurrence and human leptospirosis cases. Methods: Information on the frequency of leptospirosis cases and typhoon occurrence across the different regions in the Philippines from 2015 to 2017 was retrieved from the databases of the Department of Health and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, respectively. Descriptive measures on the prevalent cases and occurrence of typhoons across the different regions were summarized. Linear regression analysis was employed to establish the functional relationship between leptospirosis cases and typhoon occurrence. The distribution of human leptospirosis cases was assessed using the Poisson distribution. Results: The frequency of typhoon occurrence accounted for the significant linear variation in the geographic distribution of human leptospirosis cases in the Philippines(P<0.001). Moreover, the human leptospirosis cases obeyed a Poisson distribution(λ=6.89, P<0.001). Conclusions: The Philippines has frequently experienced severe weather perturbations such as typhoons resulting in flooding and subsequently increasing the risk of transmitting bacterial infections including leptospirosis. Information obtained regarding the determinants and distribution of human leptospirosis will provide better understanding of the disease propagation for subsequent design of optimal disease prevention measures, appropriate resource allocation, effective control strategies, and necessary public health programs.

The brain produces an electromagnetic wave throughout the day and the strength of this wave depends on the activity of the brain. It is said that this wave is a weak wave which does not cover a greater distance. But I do believe that it is like the radio wave in the distance it covers and frequency it possesses. I do believe that there is a communication between individuals through electromagnetic wave (brain wave) and a gas (Nitric Oxide) produced by the brain. This can be observed in our daily experiences. This can also help us understand that as a computer can receive and record the brain waves, so an individual can also receive and integrate these waves and it is being decoded to release the message it contains. In this respect, it can be said that the state of consciousness in an individual can be understood by another through concentration.

应用"一个珠子一个化合物"的组合化学肽库,以期筛选得到特异性识别非小细胞肺癌细胞(A549)的小分子肽.初次筛选共得到29个与A549阳性结合的珠子,经氨基酸序列分析后发现含有-NGXG-肽链结构的序列共有10个.选择cNGQGEQc作进一步的细胞特异性研究,发现cNGQGEQc与非小细胞肺癌A549、Calu-1及H178的粘附特异性明显高于其他细胞系,对cNGQGEQc的结构分析显示,-NGXG-及六肽长度对小分子肽与A549细胞的粘附非常重要.标记FITC的小分子肽cNGQGEQc能与A549细胞发生特异性结合.用抗整合素的抗体(!1～6,"v和#1～5)阻断小分子肽与A549细胞表面的相应受体结合,结果显示,α3与$亚单位的任何组合均对cNGQGEQc与A549细胞的粘附有明显的阻断作用.结果表明,小分子肽cNGQGEQc是通过细胞表面整合素α3与非小细胞肺癌A549发生特异性结合.

A human being is a complex type of creature whose existence depends on three components;the spirit, the soul and the body which interact in a reversible manner. I do believe that there comes a time when there is lack of a reversible interaction between the soul and the spirit in certain individuals which leads to a state of mental offset. For humans to live in sociality the world is governed by humans’ laws but the mentally offset human do not live according to these laws. Due to this, they are considered as being useless in the society but I do believe that they have complete natural human rights and are not useless for they are aware of each act they perform. It is observed that the mentally offset human hardly acquire a disease from natural origin, I do believe that due to this lack of a reversible interaction between the soul and the spirit, the immune system is reprogrammed such that there is a lack of recognition of exogenous and endogenous pathological substances and there is no means of interaction between these substances and the body cells.

A Raoult’s law-based screening-level assessment methodology was developed to calculate the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks from ingestion of coal tar-contaminated water and it was applied to ten coal tars obtained from sites in the eastern United States. This approach provides a simple risk screening based on the conservative assumptions of Tier 1 in both the ASTM RBCA methodology and the USEPA Soil Screening Guidance. Results across the ten tars exhibited similar patterns, even though the coal tars had significantly different chemical compositions, and in all cases the screening-level risks were above the USEPA thresholds. There was no appreciable difference in the total risks when using either the current USEPA 1993 PAH risk assessment guidance or the proposed 2010 guidance. Benzene, while present at low concentrations within the coal tars, posed the dominant risk and strong correlations were observed with the benzene mole fraction.

Edema is a sign/symptom which has origin diverse causes and mechanisms of installations. I do believe that it can be classified into appendicular and axial edemas with reference to the body division rather than the present classification of peripheral edema and other edemas. Edema being a sign/symptom as an entity does cause other signs and symptoms in the body. From observations, I do believe that a cemented floor causes the development of feet edema in specific individuals with genetic predisposition. This can be confirmed by the fact that when these persons place their feet on somewhere else rather than the floor, they do not develop an edema.
