Since the early reports of MOFs and their interesting properties,research involving these materials has grown wide in scope and applications.Various synthetic approaches have ensued in view of obtaining materials with optimised properties,the extensive scope of application spanning from energy,gas sorption,catalysis biological applications has meant exponentially evolved over the years.The far-reaching synthetic and PSM approaches and porosity control possibilities have continued to serve as a motivation for research on these materials.With respect to the biological applications,MOFs have shown promise as good candidates in applicati ons involving drug delivery,BioMOFs,sensing,imaging amongst others.Despite being a while away from successful entry into the market,observed results in sensing,drug delivery,and imaging put these materials on the spot light as candidates poised to usher in a revolution in biology.In this regard,this review article focuses current approaches in synthesis,post functionalization and biological applications of these materials with particular attention on drug delivery,imaging,sensing and BioMOFs.

Introduction:Childhood circumstances impact senior health,prompting the introduction of machine learning methods to assess their individual and collective contributions to senior health.Methods:Using health and retirement study(HRS)and China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS),we analyzed 2,434 American and 5,612 Chinese participants aged 60 and above.Conditional inference trees and forests were employed to estimate the influence of childhood circumstances on self-rated health(SRH).Results:The conventional method estimated higher inequality of opportunity(IOP)values in both China(0.039,accounting for 22.67%of the total Gini coefficient 0.172)and the US(0.067,accounting for 35.08%of the total Gini coefficient 0.191).In contrast,the conditional inference tree yielded lower estimates(China:0.022,accounting for 12.79%of 0.172;US:0.044,accounting for 23.04%of 0.191),as did the forest(China:0.035,accounting for 20.35%of 0.172;US:0.054,accounting for 28.27%of 0.191).Childhood health,financial status,and regional differences were key determinants of senior health.The conditional inference forest consistently outperformed others in predictive accuracy,as demonstrated by lower out-of-sample mean squared error(MSE).Discussion:The findings emphasize the need for early-life interventions to promote health equity in aging populations.Machine learning showcases the potential in identifying contributing factors.

In-situ upgrading by heating is feasible for low-maturity shale oil, where the pore space dynamically evolves. We characterize this response for a heated substrate concurrently imaged by SEM. We systematically follow the evolution of pore quantity, size(length, width and cross-sectional area), orientation, shape(aspect ratio, roundness and solidity) and their anisotropy—interpreted by machine learning. Results indicate that heating generates new pores in both organic matter and inorganic minerals. However, the newly formed pores are smaller than the original pores and thus reduce average lengths and widths of the bedding-parallel pore system. Conversely, the average pore lengths and widths are increased in the bedding-perpendicular direction. Besides, heating increases the cross-sectional area of pores in low-maturity oil shales, where this growth tendency fluctuates at 300°C. In addition, the orientation and shape of the newly-formed heating-induced pores follow the habit of the original pores and follow the initial probability distributions of pore orientation and shape. Herein, limited anisotropy is detected in pore direction and shape, indicating similar modes of evolution both bedding-parallel and bedding-normal. We propose a straightforward but robust model to describe evolution of pore system in low-maturity oil shales during heating.

Oil spills continue to generate various issues and concerns regarding their effect and behavior in the marine environment,owing to the related potential for detrimental environmental,economic and social implications.It is essential to have a solid understanding of the ways in which oil interacts with the water and the coastal ecosystems that are located nearby.This study proposes a simplified model for predicting the plume-like transport behavior of heavy Bunker C fuel oil discharging downward from an acutely-angled broken pipeline located on the water surface.The results show that the spill overall profile is articulated in three major flow areas.The first,is the source field,i.e.,a region near the origin of the initial jet,followed by the intermediate or transport field,namely,the region where the jet oil flow transitions into an underwater oil plume flow and starts to move horizontally,and finally,the far-field,where the oil re-surface and spreads onto the shore at a significant distance from the spill site.The behavior of the oil in the intermediate field is investigated using a simplified injection-type oil spill model capable of mimicking the undersea trapping and lateral migration of an oil plume originating from a negatively buoyant jet spill.A rectangular domain with proper boundary conditions is used to implement the model.The Projection approach is used to discretize a modified version of the navier-Stokes equations in two dimensions.A benchmark fluid flow issue is used to verify the model and the results indicate a reasonable relationship between specific gravity and depth as well as agreement with the aerial data and a vertical temperature profile plot.

Effect of non-uniform swelling on coal multiphysics during gas injection: The triangle approach

In current dual porosity/permeability models,there exists a fundamental assumption that the adsorption-induced swelling is distributed uniformly within the representative elementary volume (REV),irrespective of its internal structures and transient processes.However,both internal structures and transient processes can lead to the non-uniform swelling.In this study,we hypothesize that the non-uniform swelling is responsible for why coal permeability in experimental measurements is not only controlled by the effective stress but also is affected by the adsorption-induced swelling.We propose a concept of the swelling triangle composed of swelling paths to characterize the evolution of the non-uniform swelling and serve as a core link in coupled multiphysics.A swelling path is determined by a dimensionless volumetric ratio and a dimensionless swelling ratio.Different swelling paths have the same start and end point,and each swelling path represents a unique swelling case.The swelling path as the diagonal of the triangle represents the case of the uniform swelling while that as the two perpendicular boundaries represents the case of the localized swelling.The paths of all intermediate cases populate inside the triangle.The corresponding relations between the swelling path and the response of coal multiphysics are established by a non-uniform swelling coefficient.We define this method as the triangle approach and corresponding models as swelling path-based ones.The proposed concept and models are verified against a long-term experimental measurement of permeability and strains under constant effective stress.Our results demonstrate that during gas injection,coal multiphysics responses have a close dependence on the swelling path,and that in both future experiments and field predictions,this dependence must be considered.

BACKGROUnD In recent years,the use of Magnesium alloy implants have gained renewed popularity,especially after the first commercially available ConformitéEuropéenne approved Magnesium implant became available(MAGnEZIX®CS,Syntellix)in 2013.AIM To document our clinical and radiographical outcomes using magnesium implants in treating peri-articular elbow fractures.METHODS Our paper was based on a retrospective case series design.Intra-operatively,a standardized surgical technique was utilized for insertion of the magnesium implants.Post–operatively,clinic visits were standardized and physical exam findings,functional scores,and radiographs were obtained at each visit.All complications were recorded.RESULTS Five patients with 6 fractures were recruited(2 coronoid,3 radial head and 1 capitellum).The mean patient age and length of follow up was 54.6 years and 11 months respectively.All fractures healed,and none exhibited loss of reduction or complications requiring revision surgery.no patient developed synovitis of the elbow joint or suffered electrolytic reactions when titanium implants were used concurrently.COnCLUSIOn Although there is still a paucity of literature available on the subject and further studies are required,magnesium implants appear to be a feasible tool for fixation of peri-articular elbow fractures with promising results in our series.InTRODUCTIOn In recent years,the use of Magnesium alloy implants in orthopaedic surgeries have gained renewed popularity.Apart from being bioabsorbable,negating the need for implant removal,magnesium also has good osteoconductive properties[1-4].Biomechanically,it exhibits greater biomechanical strength than any pre-existing polymers,and reduces the stress-shielding effect associated with titanium and steel implants as it has a Young’s modulus closer to bone[4].Currently,the main utility of magnesium implants in the orthopaedic community is within the foot and ankle community where satisfactory results have been reported with its utility in forefoot osteotomies[5-7].Ho

Anaerobic microbial corrosion of iron-containing metals causes extensive economic damage.Some microbes are capable of direct metal-to-microbe electron transfer(electrobiocorrosion),but the prevalence of electrobiocorrosion among diverse methanogens and acetogens is poorly understood because of a lack of tools for their genetic manipulation.Previous studies have suggested that respiration with 316L stainless steel as the electron donor is indicative of electrobiocorrosion,because,unlike pure Fe^(0),316L stainless steel does not abiotically generate H2 as an intermediary electron carrier.Here,we report that all of the methanogens(Methanosarcina vacuolata,Methanothrix soehngenii,and Methanobacterium strain IM1)and acetogens(Sporomusa ovata and Clostridium ljungdahli)evaluated respired with pure Fe^(0)as the electron donor,but only M.vacuolata,Mx.soehngeni,and S.ovata were capable of stainless steel electrobiocorrosion.The electrobiocorrosive methanogens re-quired acetate as an additional energy source in order to produce methane from stainless steel.Cocultures of S.ovata and Mx.soehngeni demonstrated how acetogens can provide acetate to methanogens during corrosion.not only was Meth-anobacterium strain IM1 not capable of electrobiocorrosion,but it also did not accept electrons from Geobacter metal-lireducens,an effective electron-donating partner for direct interspecies electron transfer to all methanogens that can directly accept electrons from Fe^(0).The finding that M.vacuolata,Mx.soehngeni,and S.ovata are capable of electrobiocorrosion,despite a lack of the outer-surface c-type cytochromes previously found to be important in other electrobiocorrosive microbes,demonstrates that there are multiple microbial strategies for making electrical contact with Fe^(0).

Combining logical function and memory characteristics of transistors is an ideal strategy for enhancing computational efficiency of transistor devices.Here,we rationally design a tri-gate two-dimensional(2D)ferroelectric van der Waals heterostructures device based on copper indium thiophosphate(CuInP_(2)S_(6))and few layers tungsten disulfide(WS_(2)),and demonstrate its multi-functional applications in multi-valued state of data,non-volatile storage,and logic operation.By co-regulating the input signals across the tri-gate,we show that the device can switch functions flexibly at a low supply voltage of 6 V,giving rise to an ultra-high current switching ratio of 107 and a low subthreshold swing of 53.9 mV/dec.These findings offer perspectives in designing smart 2D devices with excellent functions based on ferroelectric van der Waals heterostructures.

In recent years,the emerging two-dimensional material-MXenes has attracted widespread attention in the field of photocatalysis due to its high conductivity,suitable Fermi level,tunable elemental composition,and excellent photoelectric properties.The zero-dimensional quantum dots(MQDs)derived from 2D MXenes not only inherit the characteristics of MXenes but also exhibit better performance due to the quantum size effect.Based on the above excellent physical and chemical properties,MQDs are often used as co-catalysts of photocatalysts,and show excellent co-catalytic properties.At the same time,compared with other cocatalysts(precious metals,metal oxides,metal sulfides),it has the advantages of low cost and high conductivity.Therefore,understanding the status of MQDs in the field of photocatalysis is crucial for their further development.In this review,we summarized the synthesis and modification methods of MQDs in recent years,as well as their photocatalytic applications in H_(2) production,CO_(2) reduction,n_(2) fixation,pollutant degradation,and other aspects.In addition,the challenges and prospects faced by MQDs are also proposed,providing theoretical guidance for the further development of MQD-based photocatalysts.

本文以学术英语教材中的解述为例,运用系统功能语言学宗源性理论及分析方法,从学科身份构建维度对其进行重新解读。研究发现解述语言在小句层内存在编码和解码两种过程,在不同级阶间存在组合和拆解两种实现方式。基于这一发现,本文提出解述具有双重特点,一方面将源引文献中的部分信息进行一般化,另一方面将其中部分信息进行专业化。这一转化的目的是为了适应不同学术共同体的学科身份期待。上述发现表明,学术英语解述具有学科身份构建的资源潜力,并可为学术英语教学提供参考。
