The high effectiveness of the third dose of BNT162b2 in healthy adolescents against Omicron BA.1 has been reported in some studies,but immune responses conferring this protection are not yet *** this analysis,our study(NCT04800133)aims to evaluate the humoral and cellular responses against wild-type and Omicron(BA.1,BA.2 and/or BA.5)SARS-CoV-2 before and after a third dose of BNT162b2 in healthy *** 5 months after 2 doses,S IgG,S IgG Fc receptor-binding,and neutralising antibody responses waned significantly,yet neutralising antibodies remained detectable in all tested adolescents and S IgG avidity increased from 1 month after 2 *** antibody responses and S-specific IFN-γ^(+)and Il-2^(+)CD8^(+)T cell responses were significantly boosted in healthy adolescents after a homologous third dose of *** to adults,humoral responses for the third dose were non-inferior or superior in *** S-specific IFN-γ^(+)and Il-2^(+)CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)T cell responses in adolescents and adults were comparable or ***,after 3 doses,adolescents had preserved S IgG,S IgG avidity,S IgG FcγRIIIa-binding,against Omicron BA.2,as well as preserved cellular responses against BA.1 S and moderate neutralisation levels against BA.1,BA.2 and *** from 100 and 96%of adolescents tested at 1 and 5 months after two doses could also neutralise *** study found high antibody and T cell responses,including potent cross-variant reactivity,after three doses of BNT162b2 vaccine in adolescents in its current formulation,suggesting that current vaccines can be protective against symptomatic Omicron disease.

Integral abutment bridges(IABs)minimize deterioration and degradation of the abutment seats and bearings due to water,dirt,and deicing chemicals by eliminating bearings and expansion *** the continuity between superstructure and abutments in an IAB is beneficial for reducing maintenance costs,it leads to more complex behavior under strength and service loading(temperature and traffic)and extreme loading(earthquake).The coupling of superstructure and substructure behavior necessitates system-level analysis of *** seismic IAB studies have typically investigated the behavior of individual IAB components,however a gap of knowledge has developed due to the lack of studies and investigation about the behavior of all IAB components and their interactions with each other in a single analysis *** study uses nonlinear static and dynamic analyses to investigate and assess the seismic behavior of IABs typical to the state of *** analyses aim to bridge the gap of knowledge by evaluating IABs as a whole and utilizing the results to indicate potential vulnerabilities in the design and construction of IABs in Illinois during design-level and larger seismic events,which could not be identified by component-level IAB analyses alone.

A CFD Model to Evaluate Near-Surface Oil Spill from a Broken loading Pipe in Shallow Coastal Waters

Oil spills continue to generate various issues and concerns regarding their effect and behavior in the marine environment,owing to the related potential for detrimental environmental,economic and social *** is essential to have a solid understanding of the ways in which oil interacts with the water and the coastal ecosystems that are located *** study proposes a simplified model for predicting the plume-like transport behavior of heavy Bunker C fuel oil discharging downward from an acutely-angled broken pipeline located on the water *** results show that the spill overall profile is articulated in three major flow *** first,is the source field,i.e.,a region near the origin of the initial jet,followed by the intermediate or transport field,namely,the region where the jet oil flow transitions into an underwater oil plume flow and starts to move horizontally,and finally,the far-field,where the oil re-surface and spreads onto the shore at a significant distance from the spill *** behavior of the oil in the intermediate field is investigated using a simplified injection-type oil spill model capable of mimicking the undersea trapping and lateral migration of an oil plume originating from a negatively buoyant jet spill.A rectangular domain with proper boundary conditions is used to implement the *** Projection approach is used to discretize a modified version of the Navier-Stokes equations in two dimensions.A benchmark fluid flow issue is used to verify the model and the results indicate a reasonable relationship between specific gravity and depth as well as agreement with the aerial data and a vertical temperature profile plot.

Do cratons preserve evidence of stagnant lid tectonics?

Evidence for episodic crustal growth extending back to the hadean has recently prompted a number of numerically based geodynamic models that incorporate cyclic changes from stagnant lid to mobile lid tectonics. A large part of the geologic record is missing for the times at which several of these cycles are inferred to have taken place. The cratons, however, are likely to retain important clues relating to similar cycles developed in the Mesoarchean and Neoarchean. Widespread acceptance of a form of plate tectonics by ～3.2 Ga is not at odds with the sporadic occurrence of stagnant lid tectonics after this time. The concept of scale as applied to cratons, mantle plumes and Neoarchean volcanic arcs are likely to provide important constraints on future models of Earth's geodynamic evolution. The Superior Province will provide some of the most concrete evidence in this regard given that its constituent blocks may have been locked into a stagnant lid relatively soon after their formation and then assembled in the next global plate tectonic interval. Perceived complexities associated with inferred mantle plume — volcanic arc associations in the Superior Province and other cratons may be related to an over estimation of plume size. A possible stagnant lid episode between ～2.9 Ga and ～2.8 Ga is identified by previously unexplained lapses in volcanism on cratons, including the Kaapvaal, Yilgarn and Superior Province cratons. If real, then mantle dynamics associated with this episode likely eliminated any contemporaneous mantle plume incubation sites, which has important implications for widespread plumes developed at ～2.7 Ga and favours a shallow mantle source in the transition zone. The Superior Province provides a uniquely preserved local proxy for this global event and could serve as the basis for detailed numerical models in the future.

Digital Servo Control of a Robotic Excavator

An electro-hydraulic control system is designed and implemented for a robotic excavator known as the lancaster University Computerised and Intelligent Excavator （lUCIE）. The excavator is being developed to autonomously dig trenches without human intervention. Since the behavior of the excavator arm is dominated by the nonlinear dynamics of the hydraulic actuators and by the large and unpredictable external disturbances when digging, it is difficult to provide adequate accurate, quick and smooth movement under traditional control methodology, e.g., PI/PID, which is comparable with that of an average human operator. The data-based dynamic models are developed utilizing the simplified refined instrumental variable （SRIV） identification algorithm to precisely describe the nonlinear dynamical behaviour of the electro-hydraulic actuation system. Based on data-based model and proportional-integral-plus （PIP） methodology, which is a non-minimal state space method of control system design based on the true digital control （TDC） system design philosophy, a novel control system is introduced to drive the excavator arm accurately, quickly and smoothly along the desired path. The performance of simulation and field tests which drive the bucket along straight lines both demonstrate the feasibility and validity of the proposed control scheme.

Microbial community structure across grazing treatments and environmental gradients in the Serengeti

As one of the last remaining naturally grazed ecosystems on Earth,the Serengeti National Park is an ideal location to study the influence of migratory mammals on the structure of microbial communities and the factors that generate biogeography of soil ***,volcanic inputs generate environmental gradients that may also structure microbial *** studied 16S rRNA amplicons in a 13-year herbivore removal experiment to examine the influence of grazing and environmental gradients on the natural distribution of soil *** of mammalian herbivores shifted microbial community structure,with 31 taxa that were significant indicator taxa of the ungrazed treatment and three taxa that were indicators of the grazed *** abundance of many taxa were correlated with soil texture,phosphorus,iron,calcium and rainfall,and the evenness of taxa within samples was also correlated with these *** general linear mixed effects models with single predictors of multiple,highly correlated variables of beta diversity were consistent with a significant,but weak(2%),effect of grazing,and stronger effects of phosphorus(14%).Beta diversity of microbial communities was greater in grazed than in ungrazed plots;suggesting that the impacts of grazing on community assembly of microbes results from deterministic environmental filtering caused by the influence of herbivores on plant communities and soil properties rather than stochastic dispersal via herds of large *** herbivore effects are superimposed on deterministic environmental filtering by natural soil and precipitation gradients across the Serengeti.

hepatitis B surface antigen escape mutations: Indications for initiation of antiviral therapy revisited

Approximately 240 million people are chronically infected with hepatitis B. The implementation of rigorous vaccination programs has led to an overall decrease in the prevalence of this disease worldwide but this may also have led to emergence of viral mutations that can escape the protection of hepatitis B surface antibody. As this phenomenon is increasingly recognized, concern for transmission to vaccinated individuals has also been raised. herein, we describe two cases where the suspected presence of a hepatitis B surface antigen escape mutation impacted the decision to initiate early antiviral therapy, as well as provide a brief review of these mutations. Our findings described here suggest that a lower threshold for initiating therapy in these individuals should be considered in order to reduce the risk of transmission, as vaccination does not provide protection.
