The authors prove that the crossed product of an infinite dimensional simple separable unital C*-algebra with stable rank one by an action of a finite group with the tracial Rokhlin property has again stable rank one. It is also proved that the crossed product of an infinite dimensional simple separable unital C*-algebra with real rank zero by an action of a finite group with the tracial Rokhlin property has again real rank zero.

In this article, robust generalized estimating equation for the analysis of partial linear mixed model for longitudinal data is used. The authors approximate the nonparametric function by a regression spline. Under some regular conditions, the asymptotic properties of the estimators are obtained. To avoid the computation of high-dimensional integral, a robust Monte Carlo Newton-Raphson algorithm is used. Some simulations are carried out to study the performance of the proposed robust estimators. In addition, the authors also study the robustness and the efficiency of the proposed estimators by simulation. Finally, two real longitudinal data sets are analyzed.

This paper improves the discrete vortex method for modeling Kelvin-Helmholtz instability and Rayleigh-Tay- lor instability by proper choice of velocity weighted average coefficients, redistribution of markers and successive adding of computational points with the increase of interfacial deformation and gives the numerical results of Rayleigh-Taylor instability. The numerical results show that the first two techniques greatly enhance the ability of the discrete vortex method for modeling large interracial deformations and the last technique greatly reduces the computational amounts of the numerical modeling at large deformation stage. The numerical modeling of Rayleigh- Taylor instability not only reproduces some phenomena such as the roll up at the end part of the spike observed in experiments but also finds some new phenomena such as the splashes at the roll up parts which needs to be tested by experiment.

Site-directed mutagenesis was used to obtain seven variants of tryptic fragment of bovine liver cytochrome bs (cyt bs), in which the negatively charged residues around the heme exposed edge of cyt bs were replaced by hydropho-bic amino acid alanine. Double-site mutants, triple-site mutants and even quadruple-site mutants were obtained. DNA sequencing and molecular weight measurements of the mutant proteins both confirmed that these site-directed muta-genesises were successfully performed. Spectroelectrochem-istry of these mutant proteins revealed that the apparent redox potentials of these mutant proteins caused a positive shift of 2-10 mV. The global structure of these mutant proteins did not show much difference from that of the wild type cyt bs, providing a solid base for the further study on the roles of the proteins’ surface charges.

The synthesis of adamantane from tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene on zeolites with different framework structures was studied. The adamantane yield on HY zeolites is higher than on HM and HZSM-5 zeolites. Among various types of dealuminated HY zeolites the HEY and HUSY zeolites give higher adamantane yields than conventional HY zeolite. The changes in activity and selectivity of the main and side reactions are correlated with the acidity and the pore structure of the zeolites. To ion-exchange the HY and HUSY zeolites with Ni2+ and La3+ cations may further improve the activity and selectivity of the zeolite catalysts.
